The theory I would choose to guide my client Karen would be the psychoanalytic theory, in which it refers to the meaning

of personality group or organization and the dynamic works of that particular personality growth or development that leads the psychoanalytic therapy. Freud Sigmund first created this therapy, as he saw that the personality that is created out of the conscious mind and also the unconscious. H e states that the conscious mind as we are all aware off has the knowledge of whats happening at the present moments. On the other hand, the preconscious mind keeps all the conscious and the conscious mind both at the same time and for a long period of time. The role played by the unconscious mind has both the hidden and long forgotten memories and thoughts and even certain experience that is hard to recollect. Like in this case, Karen is aware that she is going through this certain problems which she is conscious about, but yet she is unable to pick out whats really bothering her and this information is kept in her unconscious thoughts. Freuds considered that the human nature to be very dynamic, meaning to say that there is a connection between the energy life and the transformation of it. Freud called it catharsis it means, purifying or figurative cleansing of the emotions, especially pity and fear, described by Aristotle as an effect of tragic drama on its audience. Catharsis releases this energy. The structure of personality, categorizes into three, which is the id, the ego and the super ego. The first ego the id is actually present at birth and it is also present at birth and it is also part of unconscious. It only wants to full fill immediate need; it moves away from pain and encourages more pleasure. The id ego actually emphasizes on the impulsive attitude, has no sense of wrong or right and does not think rationally. The id ego basically focuses on instincts, genetics habits and individual drives. The second type

of ego would be the ego. This ego works on the conscious mind and also in the preconscious mind of the individual. It serves has bridge between the id ego and the super ego, by controlling the wishes and desires. With this ego, individual is able to interact with the outside environment and the world with the right goals and actions. Lastly the super ego sets the right and appropriate standards and morals for any individual. The super ego mostly works on the moral side for the individual. This is very reward able in following parental and societies needs. When the person violates or go against the super ego, emotions of guilt is built, this happens when the id ego ignores and against the rules. Ego defense mechanisms were believed by Freud to protect the individual from certain displeasantariez and anxiety. Some of the ones such as repression reaction formation, sublimation, rationalization, and identification. Repression is actually the defense mechanism where the ego takes out the pain wanted memories or even negative feelings. Projection is where when the individual has unmet needs and desires and implement it on the other individual. Reaction format is also another defense mechanism when the person shows the opposite emotion then what they are actually feeling, for example they would be emotionally broken inside, but towards the outside they will act happy. Rationalization, is also another defense mechanism in where the individual tries to come up with the most sensible explanation for the most unacceptable behavior and illogical actions, it will make it seem to appear acceptable and sensible. Another form of denial is a mechanism where the person refuses to acknowledge a something that has happen wrong or something unpleasant or traumatizing. With me being the counselor for my client Karen, I would like to encourage her and would like to make her comfortable with me as, this would be a promoting factor for her

to be able to open up to me about her issues. It is important for me to be able to let the client feel safe and be able to accept me as someone to open to me. I would allow my client to explore the areas that she is having problem facing and also explore the different experiences from her past. I would personally help her to gain a certain amount of insight and slowly work through her unresolved issue. As Karen seems to be having internal issues about her insecurities about herself and loosing people around her. As a therapy my work and goals for her would be helping her overcome her difficulties, and helping the Karen into the conscious and the unconscious thoughts and memories that have been having an impact on her. Helping Karen through the developmental stage thats has not been resolved and Karen became fixated, for example, she feels guilty with herself has a young child after playing doctor wither brother and that resulted in repressing her sexuality need at a older age. I would like to help my client to adjust to her sudden changes that she is not use to, dealing with her intimacy and facing society.
