Vodafone Analysis
Schemas Premium Services team utilized the Mentor solutions advanced analysis capabilities to
uncover hidden problems in the network, based on usage and performance data collected from the
network.
Schemas proprietary geo-location technology transforms network call event data into maps that plot
Traffic, Ec/Io, Drops, Handovers, and other data for each location. Individual drop calls can be specifically
mapped and analyzed, and filtered on the basis of IMSI/IMEI, RAB type or drop reasons. It is also possible
to generate Excel reports, graphical layers, and maps using this information.
Analysis can be done per sector, site, group of sites, and cluster level - per time and date range resolution.
The powerful underlying data model enables analysis results in seconds.
These analysis capabilities, coupled with Mentors GeoMapping capabilities, deliver a visually intuitive
display of problems according to geography and other attributes.
The Drop Call Analysis Report pack includes all information relevant to analyzing network drop-rate
behavior, including a report showing the drop rate per sector, graphical maps showing the physical
location of drop hotspots, analysis of high contributing sectors, and analysis of drop reasons.
The following image shows an example of a drop call map. Each drop is geo-located and includes all
information about IMSI, IMEI, RAB, RF conditions, Neighbors, Active set etc. This example shows speech
drops due to poor RF conditions for cell YENHAL07841T-311074. Two cells are in the active set.

Ec/Io Analysis
The following section describes the in-depth analysis of the Ec/Io in RNCs 1007 and 1012. The analysis is
taken from the Mentor reports, based on real mobile measurements.
The input for the analysis is 11 days of logs with a total of 166,412,602 messages.
Bad Ec/Io is an indication of interference/poor coverage. Cells with bad Ec/Io may have poor data/voice
performance.
As part of the analysis, recommendations for improving the Ec/Io in the worst sectors were added.
The following files are attached: Stats RNC 1007 and EcIo Stats RNC 1012.

During the logs period, when cell BURDUV15111T-364571 was the strongest, mobiles reported SC 9 1152
times. Mentor resolved this report as cell GAZICD15931T-364533 670 times, and 482 times it was resolved
as cell DEREMH32831T-364723. This might create a problem since Mentor recommends adding cell
GAZICD15931T-364533 as a neighbor to BURDUV15111T-364571.

RNC 1012:
Overall, Scrambling Code planning was good and no major issues were observed. However, tier 2
neighbors (neighbor of neighbor with same scrambling code as the source) were found. This issue should
be fixed but the impact expected in RNC 1012 is minor since in-building sectors are involved.

There are cases where Mentor had collisions resolving the SC.
Example of such a collision:
Source sector ATASKV34211T-128331
During the logs period, when cell ATASKV34211T-128331 was the strongest, mobiles reported SC 317
700 times. 350 times Mentor resolved this report as cell GZ2SYK34011T-128031 and 250 times it was
resolved as cell YEDPAS34011T-127771. This might create a problem when one of the cells is an existing
neighbor or a candidate for being a new neighbor as recommended by Mentor.
The full list of SC collisions is attached in file Potential SC problems RNC 1012.

The NL Summary report identifies sectors with the most significant neighbor changes. Below is a list of
sectors with high HO Rate Change %. For example, 20% Ho Rate Change, means that Mentor estimates
that more than 20% of potential handovers belong to missing neighbors. A full list is in file attached NL

Tilt Recommendations
Mentor uses a smart algorithm to identify overshooting cells that are candidates for tilt optimization. The
algorithm is based mainly on measurement reports collected continuously from logs (CHRs). Note that not
every cell with high access distance is a candidate for tilt. Tilt recommendations are based on traffic
distance but also on the amount and distance of the surrounding neighbors and the level of interference
created by the source cell.
Schema recommends considering implementation of 1 deg tilt as the first step. Afterwards, collect logs
and prepare a model in order to analyze the new RF environment. All tilt recommendations should be
reviewed by a local engineer in case of local limitations or problems that are unknown to Mentor.
