THE ACTIVE LIVING SPIRIT OF PROPHECY

What is the Active Living Spirit of Prophecy? This serious issue to which this question gives rise demands that we cease fooling ourselves or letting others make fools of us. (see GCS 4, 5) 3 SC 3, 4:15 How many men in this age of the world fail to go deep enough. They only skim the surface. They will not think closely enough to see difficulties and grapple with them, and will not examine every important subject which comes before them with thoughtful, prayerful study, and with sufficient caution and interest to see the real point at issue. They talk of matters which they have not fully and carefully weighed, --Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 4, p. 361. How readest thou? (3 SC 3, 4:15) Says the Spirit of Prophecy, Close reasoners, and logical thinkers are few. (3 SC 5, 6:7) Let us be Gods real people, logical thinkers, not bait hunters. (2 TG 24:23) We must not be superficial readers and thinkers. Let us be deep Bible students. (2 TG 6:15) Those who take from books only sentences instead of taking the books entire will never by themselves find the truth, and therefore instead of helping others, others will have to help them. (3 SC 810:10) The admonition given by Inspiration, that we need to carefully examine this very important subject with thoughtful, prayerful study, and with sufficient caution and interest to see the real point at issue. (3 SC 3, 4:15) The real point at issue is concerning The Active Living Spirit of Prophecy. The prophets of Baal are so clever, in order to confound the subject, to buried it beneath the surface, they will quote passages to prove that Gods Word never die. While in reality such massive explanation had nothing to do with such issue thus concerned.

THE ACTIVE LIVING SPIRIT OF PROPHECY

None of us ever teach, that the Word of God will die Gods Word liveth forever. The main issue needs to be resolved is that, When the living Spirit of Prophecy is ACTIVE, and when it became INACTIVE. Now let me read to you 4 SC 10-12:3 This is attested by the fact that today we have thousands of isms which are the result of thousands of interpretations of the Scriptures, which proves that men have independently of the Spirit interpreted the Scriptures, for the Spirit of Prophecy does not, and cannot, give to one person one interpretation of scripture, and give to another another interpretation of the same scripture. Moreover since it is true that the Laodicean church does not know the prophecies concerning herself, it bears evidence that the Spirit of Prophecy is no longer active in the midst of her. (4 SC 10-12:3) The SROD made it so plain, that the Living Spirit of Prophecy is no longer Active within the SDA church. Would you think, V.T. Houteff is saying here, that the writings of E.G. White died? Of course not. Brothers and Sisters let us forever Forsake Egotism, Self-Confidence, Pride of Opinion, Prejudices. (13 TR 29) Do not become an invalid by letting others think for you, but Make Use of the Gift of Mind and Reason. (13 TR 31) For worse or for better, Brethren, you are now, in the blazing light of Gods Word, left to make your own decision. Whatever it be, though, you will never have a just cause either to exalt or to blame another for it; the responsibility is now entirely yours. (WHR 45) Now let us begin the main issue involved

THE ACTIVE LIVING SPIRIT OF PROPHECY

2 TG 24:23 The remnant that are left, the saints who were not swallowed by the Dragons flood as the earth opened her mouth, you note have the testimony of Jesus Christ, the living Spirit of Prophecy active in their midst. The Church therefore will not sleep forever, the true people of God will awake to their poverty, they will profit at this rousing call, but the Dragons flood will fill the bowels of the earth. (2 TG 24:23)

The voice of Inspiration declared NOTE meaning observe closely that the only reason that they were not swallowed by the dragons flood as the earth opened her mouth is that the living Spirit of Prophecy is ACTIVE in their midst. Assuredly, this church could not be the SDA church for V.T. Houteff plainly declared in 1938 that the Living Spirit of Prophecy is no longer Active in her (SDA church) midst. (4 SC 10-12:3) Now let us read 1 TG 8:24 Obviously, then, as a result of this revival and reformation within the Laodicean church, another church emerges of which Joshua is in charge, not the angel of Laodicea. In it there are to be neither tares (Matt. 13:30), bad fish (Matt. 13:47, 48), or goats (Matt. 25:32). The Laodicean, the seventh, is the last that is commingled with hypocrites, saints and sinners. (1 TG 8:24) The statement definitely stated another church emerges of which Joshua is in charge, not the angel of Laodicea. Let us read 1 Ans. 32, 33 So when in Revelation 2:5 the Lord sternly addresses one group of leaders, warning them that unless they repent and do their first works He will come unto them quickly and remove the candlestick out of their control, He makes that fate entirely conditional on their own response to His cutting rebuke. But later, to the Laodicean leadership (angel), He makes an even more drastic decree, an unconditional, unequivocal, sharp and final statement, that He will spue them out thus bringing the Laodicean church government to an abrupt and cataclysmic climax. At this very time, then, the church is to undergo a thorough house-cleaning, a change of administration and organization, even as anciently the Kingdom was rent from Saul and given to David (1 Sam. 15:28). And just as David, the eighth son of Jesse, was not chosen until the succession of his seven brothers had one by one passed in review, so the house of David (Zech. 12:8; Testimonies Vol. 5, p. 81), the church freed from the tares, the eighth church in the New Testament succession, was not to come into being until the succession of seven had passed one by one. (1 Ans. 32, 33) These churches, admittedly, portray the Christian church in seven different periods; the seventh, Laodicea, depicting her in the period just before the harvest, the last in which the wheat and tares are comingled, and the one in which she is to experience the separation of the bad from among the good (Matt. 13:30, 47-49). (1 Ans. 10, 11) Our reading definitely indicates that these 7 churches each of them in each period, the wheat and the tares are still commingled by which Laodicea is the last. Now let us read 2 Ans. 13 The promise, however, is that the flood of tares will remain therein only until the harvest, the natural time for their separation--the end of the world. (2 Ans. 13) As the word until means up to, the tares are therefore to be gathered out, not before, or after the harvest, but at the beginning of it. (3 TR 66) God has only one church organization at a time. (2 TR 10) God has never had more than one movement in existence at a time and it could not be otherwise now, for Christ cannot be divided. 1 Cor. 1:13 (2 SR 125) In Oct. 22, 1844, the Ephesus (the early Christian Church which became Catholics), Smyrna (the Lutherans), Pergamus (the Presbyterian), Thyatira (the Methodist), Sardis (the Baptist) and Philadelphia (the First day Adventist) were no longer recognized by God as His. (see 2 SR 288) Therefore, the only church which recognized by God as His since 1844 is the Laodicean Church (SDA church). The house of David, the eight church in the New Testament succession was not to come into being until the succession of seven (churches) had passed one by one. ( 1 Ans. 33) The Laodicea (SDA church) being the last of the seven churches, her period commence in 1844 only up to the harvest. Obviously, therefore at the beginning of the harvest, another church emerges of which Joshua is in charge, not the angel of Laodicea. (1 TG 8:24) This is -

- the house of David, the eighth church in the New Testament succession. (We will deal this subject entitled THE TRIUMPHANT CHURCH.) The harvest is a period of time, having a beginning and ending, and that during its time men are saved. (2 Ans. 36) Now let us read 9 TR 55 As the tares and the wheat are to grow together until the harvest, and as the harvest is the end of the world (Matt. 13:30, 39), obviously the 144,000 are called the first fruits because they are the class of saints (wheat) first to be separated from the tares. (9 TR 55) The statement definitely declared that the 144,000 are the class of saints (wheat), the first to be separated from the tares. Such reading perfectly corroborates with 1 TG 3:15, saying Someone is to be publishing inspired revelations of newly revealed Truth, the Truth of the Judgment of the Living, the which is to forever separate the wheat from the tares. This prophetic event can never be applied in the days of V.T. Houteff, for even in 1943 he plainly declared: Though the bad along with the good are still coming (for we are yet in the period in which the wheat and the tarescommingle). Inspiration definitely declared, that at the commencement of the harvest, the first class of saints to be separated from the tares is the 144,000. And since the harvest is a period of time having a beginning and ending, in which during its time men are saved (2 Ans. 36), we can easily comprehend that such separation of the wheat from the tares is a cumulative process. Now let us read 2 TG 43:11, 12 Moreover, since the announcement of the separation of the saints from the sinners originates with the eleventh-hour servants, and since they are to cry aloud and say, Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean. (Isa. 52:1): and also to say Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off. (Nah. 1:15); it follows that without the eleventh hour message and servants, the Church, Zion, would be left sleeping forever, never to behold the feet of him who brings these good tidings, of him who publishes peace, and never to put on her beautiful garments, never to be fitted for the Kingdom. (2 TG 43:11, 12) It is clear as sunlight, that such announcement is the separation of the saints (wheat) from the sinners (tares). And such predicted event will occur during the proclamation of the awakening cry of Isaiah 52:1. Now let us read 1 TR 26 This rousing alarm must sound before probation closes, for it could do no good afterwards, indeed could be but a mockery then. Neither could it apply to the time of the Loud Cry, for the church is not then asleep and without the beautiful garments: Only those, confirms the Spirit of Prophecy, who have withstood and overcome temptation in the strength of the Mighty One will be permitted to act a part in proclaiming this message when it shall have swelled into the Loud Cry. -- Review and Herald, Nov. 19, 1908. And in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts. Zech. 14:21. (1 TR 26) The statement is ever so plain, that can still be misconstrued. Isaiah 52:1 can never be applied after probation closes to the Church, neither such message can be applied to the time of the Loud Cry. And since the separation of the saints (wheat) from the sinners (tares) finds its fulfillment during the proclamation of the message of Isaiah 52:1 (2 TG 43:11), conclusively shows that such separation would be during probationary time. This is what does it mean by remove the candlestick out of their control (1 Ans. 32) another church emerges of which Joshua is in charge, not the angel of Laodicea, (1 TG 8:24) which, though, in one sense must be an eighth church, in another sense is still the seventh because it is made up purely of the members from the Laodicean church. (2 SC 5, 6:10)

Inescapably therefore, the church mentioned in 2 TG 24:23 by which the Living Spirit of Prophecy is active in their midst, is the eighth church in the New Testament succession (1 Ans. 33), due to the fact that Joshua is in their midst. Now let us read 3 Ans. 60 Upon the death of Sister White, in 1915, the gift of Inspiration, the active Spirit of Prophecy, became quiescent, no longer manifesting Itself for a time. With the church thus cut off from the very source of its life, as was the Jewish church from the death of the prophet Malachi to the rise of John the Baptist, how could it maintain its vitality and growth? Hence, now as then, there has followed the same inevitable spiritual malnutrition and deformity, accompanied with a long train of woes. (3 Ans. 60) FB 11, 12 That the prophetic gift in the Seventh-day Adventist church (through the medium of which the church was brought forth in 1844 and nurtured and preserved for seven decades) ceased its manifestation in 1915 and was not remanifested until 1930, and that this cessation and this remanifestation are paralleled by the cessation of the prophetic gift in the Old Testament and the remanifestation of it in the New. (FB 11, 12) 2 TG 10:28, 29 That the prophetic gift in the Seventh-day Adventist church (through the medium of which the church was brought forth in 1844 and nurtured and preserved for seven decades) ceased its manifestation in 1915 and was not remanifested until 1930; and that this cessation and this remanifestation are paralleled by the cessation of the prophetic gift in the Old Testament and the remanifestation of it in the New. (2 TG 10:28, 29) EW 133 The gift of prophecy was manifested in the church during the Jewish dispensation. If it disappeared for a few centuries, on account of the corrupt state of the church toward the close of that dispensation, it reappeared at its close to usher in the Messiah. Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied. Simeon, a just and devout man who was waiting for the consolation of Israel, came by the spirit into the temple, and prophesied of Jesus as a light to lighten the gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel; and Anna, a prophetess, spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. And there was no greater prophet than John the Baptist, who was chosen of God to introduce to Israel the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. (EW 133) Find your explanations in the Bowl, and you will have no trouble in knowing the truth, or of avoiding the ever ready trap of deception. Thus the difficulty in knowing the difference between truth and error is eliminated. (2 SR 289) You could never find a single citation in the golden bowl declaring, that at the time when there is no living prophet the Living Spirit of Prophecy is still active. All we have heard or seen is garbling, or some procedure as followed by first day keepers while debating with Sabbath keepers. (1 TG 18:22) They will quote massive passages to prove that the Ever-Living Spirit of Prophecy will never die. While none of us, ever teach that the Living Spirit of Prophecy will die. The main concerned is when the Living Spirit of Prophecy is Active and became Inactive. For example, let us read 2 TG 24:23, 24 Moreover, the Spirit, too, apart from man, is also inactive: He, too, works through the human agent. Hence, without an inspired interpreter the concealed prophecies and the Spirit that unfolds them are inactive. (2 TG 24:23, 24) Does the Holy Spirit die? But the voice of Inspiration plainly told us, that even though the Holy Spirit never dies, but apart from man He is Inactive. That without an inspired interpreter the concealed prophecies and the Spirit that unfolds them are INACTIVE. 6 TR 46, 47 Throughout these pages, the Spirit of Prophecy has, by the prophetic Word, proved Itself invulnerable to attack. It has vindicated Itself not as a voice beginning with Moses and ending before John the Baptist, but as the ever-living testimony, beginning with creation and continuing with the patriarchs Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac Jacob; then with the prophets; next with the apostles; and finally, with the messengers of the Lord in our own day and on. (6 TR 46, 47)

How could the Ever Living Testimony be the written Word of God if it did exist at the time of creation when the Written Word of God did not as yet in existence? Enoch, By the Spirit of Prophecy He carried him down through the generations that should live after the Flood, and showed him the great events connected with the second coming of Christ and the end of the world. (PP 85) Inspiration declared: 5 SC 1-5:6 In the last book of the Bible, Chapter 12, verse 17, we find that the devil will be especially wroth with those who have the testimony of Jesus Christ, which the author of the book tells us is the spirit of prophecy.--Rev. 19:10. And the Apostle Peter makes it clear that the Testimony of Jesus and the Spirit of Prophecy, are the Spirit of Christ in the prophets who testified before hand.--1 Pet. 1:11. (5 SC 1-5:6) 2 TG 45:6 And what is the Spirit of prophecy? -- The same chapter and verse give the answer: And I fell at his feet, at the feet of the one who unfolded the prophecy to John, to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Rev. 19:10. Here it is seen that as the prophecies were unfolded to John by one of his brethren, thereby was revealed to him the Testimony of Jesus, the Spirit of Prophecy. Plainly, then, an inspired servant of God who bears a message to his brethren, bears the Testimony of Jesus to them. To illustrate: Suppose the Lord Jesus communicated a personal message to you by a messenger, would not His message be His testimony to you? And should God endow the messenger with the gift of His Spirit to unfold to you the prophecies which are in the Scriptures, would he not be coming to you with the Spirit of Prophecy? Thus it is clear that the Testimony of Jesus and the Spirit of Prophecy are synonymous terms for a timely message sent from God -- meat in due season. The Spirit of prophecy, therefore, is Gods means of communicating from Heaven directly to His church on earth, as well as of unfolding the sealed prophecies to her. (2 TG 45:6) The Active Living Spirit of Prophecy is illustrated by Inspiration to The science of the process finds close analogy in that of the universally used electric current. Electricity goes into action only when the live wire (the positive) comes in contact with the ground wire (the negative). So it is that the churchs contact with Gods chosen instrument (the ground wire) fused to the Spirit of God (the live wire) -- which together represent the positive and the negative -- is what electrifies the church, and thus opens the line of communication between the church and Heaven. (2 TG 45:8) When the prophet died The line of communication between her (church) and God (heaven) is cut off as it was in Johns time. (7 JL 4) With the church thus cut off from the very source of its life. (3 Ans. 60) Thus by Scripture and by logic, we are carried to the peak of evidence, that the Living Spirit of Prophecy will be activated only at the time when the live wire (the positive, which is the Spirit of God) comes in contact with the ground wire (the negative, living human channel), fused to the Spirit of God (under Inspiration of the Holy Spirit) opens the line of communication between the church and Heaven. Now let us turn to 2 TG 24:22-24 Will the Church forever remain in her self-deception, or will she awake to her great need? We shall have these questions answered if we turn to the Revelation: And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ...for the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy. Rev. 12:16, 17; 19:10. Here is the Bibles own answer, which says that there is to be a people who will have the Testimony of Jesus Christ at the time the earth swallows up the flood, the hypocrites. And since this incident is yet future, it shows that -

- there is to be a prophet in the Church, for the Bibles own interpretation of the Testimony of Jesus Christ, is the Spirit of Prophecy (Rev. 19:10). The first part of chapter 19 you will note explains that the Spirit of Prophecy is brought to them by a man, a fellow servant, and that those who receive him feel like worshiping him, but he directs them to worship God, not a man. The remnant that are left, the saints who were not swallowed by the Dragons flood as the earth opened her mouth, you note have the testimony of Jesus Christ, the living Spirit of Prophecy active in their midst. The Church therefore will not sleep forever, the true people of God will awake to their poverty, they will profit at this rousing call, but the Dragons flood will fill the bowels of the earth. Let now no one deceive himself by thinking that the Bible Itself is the active Spirit of Prophecy. Let us be Gods real people, logical thinkers, not bait hunters. The Bible, you know, without the human channel, is as inactive as though It were but ink and paper. Moreover, the Spirit, too, apart from man, is also inactive: He, too, works through the human agent. Hence, without an inspired interpreter the concealed prophecies and the Spirit that unfolds them are inactive. Moreover, how could it be said of one particular group having the Spirit of Prophecy, when all the sects in Christendom have the Bible? (2 TG 24:22-24) Will the Church forever remain in her self-deception? The answer must be absolutely no. Will she awake to her great need of a prophet? The answer would be, not all, for only the true people of God will be awakened to their spiritual poverty, according to Inspiration. What does it mean by spiritual poverty? The SROD made it so plain, that we could no more serve our members meat in due season without the prophetic gift in our midst. And our blindness to this fact makes our case incurable before God. (7 JL 4) The statement that there is to be a people who will have the Testimony of Jesus Christ, definitely implied that Gods people will pass a period of time that they dont have it. For it sounds illogical and even ungrammatical to declare who will have, if they have it all the time. And the statement there is to be a people, points out definitely to one group of people being in a singular form. Inspiration declared clearly And since this incident is yet future, it shows that there is to be a prophet in the church, for the Bibles own interpretation of the Testimony of Jesus Christ, is the Spirit of Prophecy. 2 TG 34:23 Since The Revelation, the book that speaks to the people of God at this time, recommends the sect that keeps the commandments and that has the gift of prophecy, you cannot wisely connect yourself with any other sect. And since God so declares, it must be that there is but one such people at this particular time who have the living testimony of Jesus Christ, the Gift of the Spirit of Prophecy. Moreover, for God to place the Gift with more than one people, would be for Him to cause confusion and disaster to His own work, to thwart His own purpose. Still further, if more than one has the Gift, then they all would necessarily have to agree as one. But since there are no two sects that agree with each other, the truth that there is but one sect that has the Gift is an absolute reality. And while you may choose to keep the Sabbath commandment, you cannot inspire yourself with the Spirit of Prophecy -- this Gift is bestowed upon the remnant by God Himself. (2 TG 34:23) If we want to make sure of our salvation, we need to ascertain clearly as to what movement we are to enlist in. (14 TR 22) The only Movement by which God Himself do recommends, must be the sect that keeps the commandments and that has the gift of Prophecy you cannot wisely connect yourself with any other sect except this one. So not having the prophetic gift among them, the ________ group must be running without being sent. (4 Ans. 80) 2 TG 34:20 Only this Church, you see, is favored even by the earth itself. This sect alone is saved from the Dragons flood, saved from being carried away by the flood of hypocrites and tares in her midst. Rev. 12:17 -- And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Here, you see, the remnant -- those who are left after the others are swallowed by the earth, so to speak -- keeps the commandments of God and has the testimony of Jesus Christ. This remnant, or sect, that keeps the commandments of God, therefore, is the only one that Inspiration recommends, the only one that is worth joining, the only one that can profit any one. It alone possesses the power to escape any and all of the calamities that are now brewing throughout the world. It is the only sect that finds favor with God. No other would do, for no other could profit you. Then, too, it alone has the testimony of Jesus Christ -- the living Spirit of Prophecy in its midst (Rev. 19:10), -the Spirit Who leads into all Truth, Who alone can rightly interpret the Scriptures (2 Pet. 1:20, 21). Plainly, then, Inspiration would have you join no sect but this remnant. (2 TG 34:20) Who is the remnant? The Gift of the Spirit of Prophecy inspiration declared this Gift is bestowed upon the remnant by God Himself. (2 TG 34:23) Obvious it is, since God Himself who will bestow such Gift wherever that Gift could be found, that is the remnant. And this remnant will be the only one that are left when the Earth will opened her mouth for the reason that the Living Spirit of Prophecy is Active in their midst (2 TG 24:23), Joshua is among them. (1 TG 8:24)
