DV 4205 Design Basics 5 credits Objective: This course aims at the knowledge and understanding of two dimensional basic design. Provides knowledge of design principles, elements, process, and organization. Various techniques, visual aspects of various characteristics of media, and creativity are practiced. Topics: - Design elements and principles Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (8 hrs) Prerequisite: none DV 4241 Typography 1 4 credits Objective: Introduction to typography as an essential factor in visual communication design. Introduction to various typefaces, and its use in character and sensitivity. Topics: - History and development from anatomical typography through combination typefaces - Typographical functions in communication Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (6 hrs) Prerequisite: none DV 4209 Drawing 3 credits Objective: In this course, students will acquire drawing basics as visual language and expression in conveying and exploring ideas. Students will refine the skill in using drawing as a means to communicate their expressions and exploration of ideas, as a means of internal and external communication. Perception also means not only about individual perception but also mass perception, especially that relates to visual design. DU 4168 Pancasila and Civics 2 credits Objective: To live in a country one must understand its ideology. It is important to understand about the idea of living as a nation and a country. Pancasila as the foundation of the country must therefore be reflected in everyday life. A strong nation must also be supported by national defense and perspective. There must also be unity for the national development. Topics: - Pancasila as Indonesians viewpoint - Pancasilas position in the Republic - The concept of a Pancasila State and the system of governance of Indonesia - The significance of God in a monotheistic country. - National defense, national perspective - National politics and strategies Methods: Lecture (2 hrs) Prerequisite: none DU 4169 Fund. of Natural Science 2 credits Objective: This course reflects on facts of life on earth, human existence, intellectual development, and on evolution. DV 4281 Communication Process 2 credits Objective: To be able to create and explain a model of communication process and be able to describe several factors that limit or permit communication or several factors that intensify habits. To be able to analyze ads from the communication process point of view and can then apply the knowledge in everyday activities. Students will also learn about developing stories, themes, plots, character, composition, panels, visual style, and relations to culture and social aspects, and also production and publication. 7th SEMESTER
DV 4259 VCD 5 5 credits Objective: Students learn to sort out, analyze, and make decisions in design planning, and also about integrated teamwork and each members part and discipline. This is a preparation course before final project. It aims at problem solving and its application to create functional and applicative design works, and developing a portfolio. Topics: - Design styles, new media, digital media, modern packaging, interactive media, essay photography - Choosing, analyzing, creating surveys, and presenting a factual topic in a forum - Developing a portfolio Methods: Lecture (1 hr), Studio (10 hrs) Prerequisite: must pass VCD 4 DV 4301 Seminar 3 credits (offered every semester) Objective: The ability to present and discuss textual work in a seminar forum as a basis for writing a thesis.
