Special Report on the Cambodia Trip 2013

A group photo in front of the Siem Reap International Airport before we embark on our journey to help the Cambodians and experience their culture. We were given a chance to participate in Cambodian culture through the cleansing of our soul for good luck by a monk.

We did some gardening by digging a few 1m x 1m x 1m holes for tree plantation.

Ahmad passing the roof tile to the workers on the roof to replace the old roof tiles so that the classroom would be free from leakage when theres rain. On the last day of our trip in Cambodia, we were fortunate to be able to visit Angkor Wat and this is the group photo we took over there.

We helped to teach English to the local students through fun games.

We had a lot of fun learning how to make seed balls which are part of a reforestation approach called permaculture.

ELEASHA CHEW SUE YUEN PROJECT MANAGER I was amazed by how selfless my friends are in contributing to causes bigger than themselves. The trip to Cambodia has opened my eyes to the needs of the rural community which are different from what I have heard.

LIM ZU YI ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER The entire process of fundraising for the Cambodia trip was truly a memorable one for me. The sleepless nights and the endless frustrations from the fundraising events paid off in the Cambodia trip. I realised how encouraging it was to work with such a dedicated group and this has made me grow so much as an individual. After all, Being sad alone is a problem, being sad together is not.

MICHELLE TING YING HUI HEAD OF HISTORY AND CULTURE TEAM Learning the Khmer language before the trip really removed the barrier of language in Cambodia. Even saying simple words such as Sui Sdey which means Hello in the Khmer language immediately made us closer to the Cambodians.

CHIN KAR YERN HEAD OF MARKETING TEAM Seeing the IBDP students wearing the Among Us shirt for the first time made my heart leap with pride. The shirt represented the unity we all shared with each other, one that represents a family under the same emblem.

HANNAH KHAW HUEY MEI HEAD OF JOURNALISM TEAM The whole process of journalism encompasses the process of capturing the story of the entire IBDP trip, from the beginning to the end. It was exciting to see how everyone had their own little story to tell during the trip and it is these little things that make up a larger part of storytelling. I cant wait to share our stories with the world when the Among Us book comes out.

QUEK SIEW YEAN HEAD OF PHOTOGRAPHY TEAM Being behind the camera lens throughout the trip allowed me to capture raw and honest stories; the little emotions from every unnoticed shot of laughter or smile. As I had the opportunity to work with such an enthusiastic team of storytellers who wanted to pen these memories down as much as I did, this made me realise how the true art of storytelling lies within the true nature of humanity, the unheard stories about to be heard and listeners who are willing to listen.

A Word from the Camp Supervisors

Han: I like working

here because of the people I have very good friends here. And also, I get to meet lots of people from all over the world and I learn many new things from them! The life at this camp is considered very good already, because at my own village, the water problems are even worse.

Sunny: I like Camps

international and Camp Beng Mealea because I am able to expand my knowledge of the English language and improve myself further. Also, I can meet friends from all over the world by working here! It will be my greatest happiness to see all of you again in the future.

The Teachers Who Accompanied Us

Miss Lauren Elizabeth Wilson, Principal of TCSH: The most memorable moment for me in Cambodia was how proud I felt when I popped in to see our group of students tutoring in the primary school. They were doing such a good job tutoring the Cambodian students that it symbolized the entire Cambodia trip; which was giving, giving and giving.

Mr. Lim Thean Hsiang, IBDP Economics Teacher: The whole Cambodia trip was a very meaningful experience. Throughout the whole trip, I found the Cambodians very unique, especially with their lifestyle and food.

Miss Jasmine PV Anversha, IBDP Mathematics Teacher: It is interesting to see the different sides of the students and how hardworking they can be. It is also nice to see how eager the students were to help out the Cambodian children.

With endless fun and boundless sun, The Cambodia trip was definitely an unforgettable one.
