Call number/Cote: 440/MET/CON1-3 Authors: Mrieux; Rgine; Loiseau, Yves; Bouvier, Batrice Publisher: Paris: Editions Didier Year Published: 2004 Type: Manuels et mthodes de FLE/Textbooks for learning French (MET) Collection: 100 Titles for Learners of French/Les 100 Titres pour le FLE (MERLIN) Language: French Physical description: 1 textbook + 2 CDs (for level 1, 2), 3 CDs (for level 3) 1 exercise book and 1 CD (for each 3 levels) 1 pedagogical guide (for each 3 levels) 1 DVD + guide (for level 1, 2) Summary of Content: This textbook content offers a choice of very diverse subject matters. The textbooks are composed of four sections, each made up of three course units (fro the first two levels: Connexions 1, Connexions 2) or five sections of two course units (for the third level: Connexions 3). Each section introduces new vocabulary and grammatical structures to cover a set of learning goals such as to speak of oneself, to converse and discuss, to situate oneself in space, to express past, present and future situations (first level) and to express ones opinions (second level). The third level is organized around contexts of interaction to enhance both spoken and written French and further delve in grammatical particularities that complement the content of the first two levels. Methodologically, this textbook is based on a progressive approach of discovery, deduction and appropriation of vocabulary and grammar rules. Transcriptions of the audio material and answer keys to the exercises can be found at the end of

the book, as well as a brief grammar sketch and a glossary in several languages. A students exercise book with CD and answer keys complements the textbook. The pedagogical guides, available for each level, provide teaching suggestions, answers to the exercises in the students text as well as the scripts of all recorded sections. A DVD is also available to complement the lessons contained in the students text for level 1 and 2. Level: A1/A2 [Basic User (level 1 and 2)] for Connexions1 A2/B1 [Basic User (level 2), Independent User (level 1)] for Connexions 2 B1/B1+ [Independent User (level 1) and up] for Connexions 3 Public: FLE learners, Young Adults and Adults Teaching suggestions: This method is to be used in the class setting with the help of a French instructor as the texts and recorded material can be challenging for the students studying on their own. Designed for a total of 100 to 120 hours, the textbooks internal division for each unit provides ample content diversity for each class. The video material can further stimulate the students. Grammatical topics and exercises can be complemented with additional material for more indepth practice and comprehension, and students should be encouraged to use their exercise book. Auto-evaluations and sample tests at the end of each section are good tools for reviews. Transcriptions of the recorded texts and dialogues and answer keys are provided at the end of the textbook and workbook.
