Overview of Menu Driver

Overview of Menu Driver

Menu Driver is a SunGard Public Sector application that allows you to control who uses applications, menus, functions, and subfunctions. Only the system administrator should be authorized to everything. You can use Menu Driver to set up and maintain users, user groups, functions, subfunctions, and menus. You give user groups authority to work with features and functions of software applications. You can also use Menu Driver to customize menus by setting up your own menu and adding existing menus as menu options. SunGard Public Sector also creates menus and functions and sends them with each update of the software applications. You can copy any of these menus and modify them as a user menu. The four components of Menu Driver are: Applications - A SunGard Public Sector software program, such Cash Receipts or Building Permits. Menus - Each application has a set of system menus that SunGard Public Sector sends with the application. These system menus access the standard functions for the application you are using. Functions - A function may be a standard or even a mandatory use of the software application. Functions include SunGard Public Sector software menu options that allow you to perform actions necessary to the basic use of the software application. Subfunctions - Subfunctions are functions that perform operations on other functions. For example, you use the Add subfunction to add the File Maintenance Menu to your main menu. You use the Delete subfunction to remove the Meter Functions Menu from the main menu. Subfunctions also provide additional application security. The HT (HTEGPL) application Menu Driver uses an application called HTEGPL to control basic functions such as: Menus and functions Function keys The "program selection" feature You also use the HTEGPL application to control the use of menu screens and access to the command line. Menu Driver is different from other SunGard Public Sector applications because it allows system administrators to access menus for all SunGard Public Sector software applications.

Menu Driver

Overview of program selection

Menu Driver has a feature called "program selection," which allows access to all authorized functions and programs across all applications. This saves time by allowing access to different functions at the same time. Functions are menu options you use to accomplish tasks. You can use the "program selection" feature to select functions you want to work with. The "program selection" feature creates a list of functions you select during your work session. You can keep several functions open as you work to create a "multi-tasking" environment. The "program selection" feature allows you to: Select new functions that are added to your list of open functions Return to functions you already used during your current work session SunGard Public Sector defines functions that arrive with the software application. Your organization can also define custom functions. You use these functions during work sessions to perform software tasks. By creating a list of functions for your work session, you can move easily from one function to another. You do not have to select or type the function you want to work with. You just select the function from your list. When you finish work with each function, you can add it to your function list for use later in your work session. Once you add a function to your list, you can easily return to it by selecting it with the "program selection" feature. To select a function, you can: Type the function you want to work with Choose the function from the list of functions already used during your work session Choose the function from a list When you type the function you want to work with, you specify the software application and the function. You can type the software application or select it. You can type all or part of the function name. If you type the entire function name, the system retrieves the function you want to work with. If you type a partial function name, the system retrieves the function or displays a list of functions starting with the letters you typed. You can select the function you want from this list. If the function you want is not on your list of previously used functions or you do not know the exact function name, you can select it. First, you specify the software application to which the function belongs. When you use the Prompt function, the system displays a list of functions for the software application you specified. You can select the function from this list. Example: You want to print an Actual Costs Report in the Fleet Management (FM) software application. You click Shortcut or press Escape or Attention to display the Program Selection window. You type FM in the Application field. The cursor automatically moves to the Function field. You use the Prompt function. The software application displays a list of all available FM functions. You select Actual Costs Report from the list, and the software application retrieves the function for you to work with.

Overview of Menu Driver

When you select a new function, the previous function is added to your list. You can select previously used functions later in your work session. If you do, the system returns you to where you were in the function before you clicked Shortcut or pressed Escape or Attention. If you select Cancel when the Program Selection window displays, the system returns you to the command you used most recently.

Starting Menu Driver (Select only)

You can access Menu Driver using one of three commands or the user initial program. Commands HTEMNU HT *SELECT Use this command to begin working with Menu Driver and go directly to other applications and menus. The *USER parameter determines which menu displays when you use this command. HTEMNU XX *SELECT Replace "XX" in the above command with the two-letter application designator to display the selection of menus for that application. For example, if you want to display Payroll/Personnel menus, you type HTEMNU PR *SELECT, since PR is the two-letter code for Payroll/Personnel. HTEMNU XX *FIRST Replace "XX" in the above command with the two-letter application designator of the application you want to display the main menu for. For example, if you want to display the main menu for Customer Information System, you type HTEMNU CX *FIRST, since CX is the application designator for Customer Information System. User initial program The user initial program is a SunGard Public Sector program that is embedded within the System i5 user profile. You use this program to set up the menu that displays for each user when the user signs on to the System i5. This allows the user to access Menu Driver without typing any commands. You set up the initial application and the initial menu when you set up user information within SunGard Public Sector software. You can select any SunGard Public Sector application or menu.

Overview of menus
Each application has a set of system menus that SunGard Public Sector sends with the application. These system menus access the standard functions for the application you are using. You can customize the user menus, but you should not customize any SunGard Public Sectordefined menus. The title of the screen indicates whether you are working with user-defined information or SunGard Public Sector-defined information. Warning: If you customize SunGard Public Sector-defined information, you may lose your changes when you install a new version or program temporary fixes (PTFs) for the application.

Overview of functions
SunGard Public Sector sends you each software application with a set of base functions that provide access to a program or command. A function may be a standard or even a mandatory use of the software application. Functions include SunGard Public Sector software menu options that allow you to perform actions necessary to the basic use of the software application.

Menu Driver user profiles combine System i5 user profile information with SunGard Public Sector user information. The System i5 user profile information is created automatically by the User Maintenance program. Note: The system administrator sets up users in the system. Application administrators should check with the system administrator for the list of users for their applications. User groups are categories of related personnel who work with the system. For example, the members of a department can be assigned to a user group indicated by the department name. A user group can be authorized to certain programs or functions within the system, and one user can be authorized to more than one user group. You should limit the number of applications that you authorize a group to, and you should not create a group that has authority to all applications. System administrators should be the only group authorized to all applications.

Appendix B Test Environments

Appendix B Test Environments Overview of test environments

A test environment is a series of duplicated data and program libraries. You cannot share files or programs between production and test environments. A test environment is usually set up to test two different releases of software or release updates for an existing release. The test environment requires a separate configuration for both the NaviLine server and the System i5 monitor. The NaviLine test server may be configured on the same server or on a separate server that is included in the network. The NaviLine test monitor and libraries may reside on the same System i5 with the production environment but have different monitor configurations and different library names. Considerations Disk space - Test libraries take up as much disk space as the production libraries. Plan on using double the amount of disk space currently being used for production before creating the test libraries. Support for test environments - Since SunGard Public Sector does not consider a test environment required for installing software, there are additional charges associated with setting up and supporting this environment. SunGard Public Sector provides the programs and documentation needed to use a test environment with the SunGard Public Sector application software. Additional support or setup assistance is billable through the System i5 Technical Support Group. Refresh of test environment libraries - SunGard Public Sector does not provide a program to copy data from production libraries to test libraries. If you want a data refresh, the libraries must be deleted and then restored from a recent backup. User profiles - The user profiles set up in production at the time of the data restore are used. Any changes or additions to user profiles in the production environment must also be added or changed in the test environment. Loading software to the test environment - If you load SunGard Public Sector software using Implementer-Receiver, each application that is included in the test environment, including the HT application, must be set up as a test environment within ImplementerReceiver. The NaviLine test server must be updated at the same time the System i5 software is updated. For instructions about setting up the test environment within Implementer-Receiver, please contact Distribution Services.

Creating test users

Now that the environment is all set up, the next step is to create the TEST user profiles. You should create a primary profile and application profiles. Keep in mind the following items: The primary profile (TESTUSER) is used to maintain the security in the test environment using menu driver. The application profiles (GMTEST, CRTEST, CXTEST, etc) are used by your end users to test the different applications.

Create these profiles with their initial program HTNAVSELT in HTSPGMT and the attention program library HTSPGMT. This allows the profiles to sign on to the test environment. 1. To create the user profiles for the test environment, log in as QSECOFR. 2. Type the following on a command line: CALL HTQHTECL 3. Type 4 in the Option field. 4. Press F11 for Fast Path. 5. Select the Menu/Security menu. 6. Select Users. 7. Create the profiles with the proper authority. Give the profile TESTUSER authority to all applications, all menus, all functions, and all subfunctions. Remember, this is the profile that maintains all of the security in the TEST environment. Only the System Administrator should have access to this profile. Result: The application profiles are set up to have all authority for that particular application. For example, GMTEST should have all authority to GM only. Your users can now sign on and test the software.
