To protect the equipment and find the cause, store the unpacked equipment inside the equipment room. Take photos of the storage environment, the rusted or corroded devices, and the packaging cases and materials. Archive the photos. Take good care of the unpacked packaging cases and materials. If the products are in good condition, unpack and inspect the items. Unpack the case labeled Built-In Packing List, and take out the packing list. Check the case according to the Packing List. For any short or wrong shipment, fill in the Article Problem Feedback Form. For any damage of articles, both parties must fill in the Cargo Replacement Application Form and sign the Packing List.
Prevent the equipment, components, or parts from colliding with doors, walls, or shelves during transportation and handling. Do not touch the uncoated surface of the equipment, parts, or components through sweat soaked or dirty gloves.
Do not place the wooden case upside down. Otherwise, the equipment will be severely damaged. Wooden cases are used to pack heavy objects such as racks and batteries. A rack is usually packed with wooden boards, steel edges, tongues, and foamed angle wraps. Move the packing case into or near the equipment room (if possible) to avoid damage to the cabinet during transportation. Unpack the case as follows: Step 1 Insert one end of the ejector lever into a hole of the tongue on the cover of the wooden case. Step 2 Turn the ejector lever to straighten the tongue, as shown in Figure 2-1. You can also use a screwdriver or a hammer to handle the tongue.

2 Installation Preparations
After moving a board from a dry place with lower temperature to a wet place with higher temperature, wait at least 30 minutes before unpacking. Otherwise, humidity may gather on the surface of the board and cause damage to the equipment. When unpacking boards, take antistatic measures to prevent the boards from damage. When cutting the tape through a paper knife, take care not to cut too deep. Otherwise, the items inside may be damaged. Keep the carton and antistatic plastic packing bags for future use such as holding spare parts or parts sent back for repair. Unpack a carton as shown in Figure 2-4. Figure 2-4 Unpacking a carton

The expansion tube must be fully buried in the ground. The depth of the hole must range from 52 mm to 60 mm. The depth of the hole must be a sum of the length of the expansion tube and the length of the drill bit. If the depth is less than 52 mm or more than 60 mm, the expansion bolt cannot be fastened. All the holes must have the same depth. Before measuring the depth of the hole, remove the dust inside the hole to measure the exact depth. After drilling holes, measure the distance between the holes. If a drilled hole is of great deviation, relocate and drill a new one. To drill a hole and install the expansion bolt, do as follows: Step 1 Use the 16 drill bit and the M12 expansion bolt assembly. Figure 3-5 shows the M12 expansion bolt assembly. Issue 01 (2006-09-06)
4 Installing Boards
If the cabinet is not grounded, first connect the PGND wiring terminal on the left of the cabinet to the external grounding bar. For details, see section 6.3 "Installing PGND Cables." Keep the ESD wrist strap in good condition. Its resistance should be between 0.75 Mega ohms and 10 Mega ohms. Typically, the life expectancy of the ESD wrist strap lasts for about two years. Replace the strap when the resistance falls beyond the specified range.
1 2
The antistatic wrist strap cannot prevent static electricity from being generated by friction between a board and your clothes. Ensure that boards are not in contact with your clothes. Clean up the subracks. Check whether there are any bent, missed, or broken pins on the backplane.
If there is any bent pin, replace it or straighten it with a pair of nipper pliers in case of an emergency. If there is any missed pin, replace the backplane. If the deformation is not obvious, adjust the socket using a pair of nipper pliers. If the deformation is serious, replace the backplane or the board.
Check whether the sockets on the backplanes and the boards are deformed.
Prepare a #2 crossover screwdriver whose diameter is 6 mm to tighten the M3 captive screws on the board panels. Keep the boards or parts that are not installed in antistatic bags. Place the removed boards or parts on the antistatic pad or other antistatic materials. Never pack or hold the boards or parts using plastic foams, common plastic bags, or paper bags.

6 Installing Cables
Never connect the N wire of the AC power cable to the PGND cable of the exchange equipment or communication equipment.
The AC power cables for the BTS3012AE are purchased at the local place. The colors of the cables must comply with the local rules and regulations. If the local rules and regulations have no special requirements for cable colors, use the cables delivered together with the BTS. The default color of the delivered L wire is red and that of the N wire is black. The OT terminals of AC power cables are made on site.
For details, see Table 1-5 "Types and installation positions of the cables." Table 6-4 lists the rated voltage, rated frequency, and power distribution mode in different modes.

6.2.4 Leading the Single-Phase 220 VAC Power into the BTS3012AE Cabinet
Ensure that the L wire and N wire are connected correctly in single-phase mode. If not, the lightning arrester can be burnt, which causes serious faults. In single-phase mode, two methods are used to lead the L wire into the BTS3012AE cabinet: The single-phase power provided by the customer is divided into three channels in the power interface box before led into the BTS3012AE. For how to connect the cables, see section 6.2.3 "Leading the 3-Phase 220 VAC Power into the BTS3012AE Cabinet." Install a short-circuiting copper busbar on the AC lighting arrester. Lead the single-phase power provided by the customer directly into the BTS3012AE. For how to connect the cables, see section 6.2.3 "Leading the 3-Phase 220 VAC Power into the BTS3012AE Cabinet." 6 Installing Cables
Measure the accurate distance between the two grounding ends and reserve cables with enough length. When laying out PGND cables, replace the cables if the reserved cables are not long enough. Solder joint or connection is not allowed. The PGND cables must be separated from other ones. If the PGND cables are laid parallel to other ones, the space between the PGND cables and the other cables must be at least 30 mm. If PGND cables need to be bound with the metal cabling rack before being laid out, insulation measures shall be taken. Switches or fuses must not be added to the PGND cable. The connection points at both ends of the PGND cables shall be in good electrical contact and anticorrosion measures shall be taken. The E1 cables must be laid neatly and tied using cable ties. The space between cable ties must be 200 mm. The cable ties must be in one line and in the same direction. The ends of the cable ties must be evenly cut.
The PGND cables after being routed into the cabinet through the waterproof module may prevent the removal of the slide plate from the storage battery cabin. To ensure that the slide plate can be moved in and out freely, keep property redundant length of the cables that have been routed into the cabinet through the waterproof module.

The 48 V 50-AH storage cabin of the BTS3012AE can be removed to form a 7 U space with the reserved 2 U space. This space can be used to accommodate transmission equipment or other equipment of the operators. Figure 6-28 (A) lists the full configuration of the BTS3012AE under the combination of 150 AH + 50 AH + 2 U. Figure 6-28 (B) lists the full configuration of the BTS3012AE under the combination of 150 AH + 7U.
After the 48 V 50 AH storage battery cabin is removed, it can not be used as the storage battery cabin again because it cannot meet the sealing requirements. That is to say, the cabinet shown Figure 6-28 (A) can be changed to the cabinet shown Figure 6-28 (B) while the cabinet shown Figure 6-28 (B) cannot be changed to the cabinet Figure 6-28 (A).

6 Installing Cables
Before connecting the cable between storage batteries, be sure to power off them. Otherwise, the power may result in injuries. To power off a storage battery, insert a small round stick into the small hole beside the OFF silkscreen on the front panel of the DPMU, push the button for at least five seconds until you can hear that the storage battery is powered off. The capacity of a built-in storage battery group in the BTS3012AE is 50 AH. The BTS3012AE supports a maximum of four groups. The BTS3012AE currently supports three configuration modes: 100 AH, 150 AH, and 200 AH. The selection of the configuration mode is subject to the system configuration.

Take care of personal safety during the power-on check because high voltage is involved. A fatal accident may occur if you touch the input current directly or indirectly through a wet substance. Before you turn the primary power supply to ON, use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the input power and the earth and check whether they are short-circuited.
Before powering on the cabinet, ensure that the power cables and boards are disconnected. The procedure for power-on check of a cabinet is as follows: Step 1 Set all the power switches to OFF. Step 2 Turn on the DC PDF to power on the cabinet. Step 3 Measure the input voltage of the power distribution box on BTS3012AE cabinet. The range allowed is 60 V to 40 V. If the voltage is within the range, the power-on check is complete. Continue with board power-on check. If the voltage is beyond the range, go to the next step.
The rated voltage of the BTS3012AE cabinet is 48 V.
Step 4 Turn off the DC PDF to cut off the power supply to the cabinet. Step 5 Measure the output voltage of the PDF. Check the installation and layout of power cables on the cabinet top. Clear the faults. Step 6 Measure the output voltage of the PDF again and take the cabinet power-on check. If the results are normal, continue with board power-on check. ----End

The procedure for power-on check of boards is as follows: Step 1 Set the power switch of the FAN subrack to ON. Step 2 Check whether the fan runs normally. If yes, infer that the power supply inside the cabinet is normal. Go to Step 4. If no, infer that the power supply inside the cabinet is not normal. Go to Step 3. Step 3 Check whether the power cable connection of the FAN subrack is good. If no, reinstall the cable, and then repeat Step 1. Step 4 Set the power switch of the common subrack to ON. Step 5 Check whether the indicators of the DTMU in the common subrack flash slowly (0.5 Hz). If yes, infer that the board has normal power supply. Go to Step 7. If no, infer that the board is not properly placed or there are other faults. Go to Step 6. Step 6 Reinstall the boards or clear the faults. Then repeat Step 5.
For details about the status of indicators on boards, see the BTS3012AE Base Station Hardware Description Manual.
Step 7 Set the power switch of the DTRU to ON. Check whether the indicators on the DTRU panels flash slowly (0.5 Hz). If yes, infer that the DTRU has normal power supply. Go to Step 8. If no, infer that the DTRU is not properly placed or there are other faults. Clear the faults and then repeat Step 7. Step 8 Set the power switch of the DAFU subrack to ON, and check whether the indicators on the DDPU panels flash slowly (0.5 Hz). If yes, the DDPU has normal power supply. The power-on check of the board is complete. If the indicators are always on, infer that the DDPU is faulty. Go to Step 9. If the indicators are off, infer that the power supply fails. Go to Step 10. For states other than that mentioned previously, go to Step 11.
The DCOMs in the DAFU subrack do not need power and there are no indicators on them.
Step 9 Check the DDPU and the cable between the DDPU and the serial port on the DTRU. Reinstall the cable and check whether the indicators on the DDPU panel flash slowly (0.5 Hz). If yes, infer that the DDPU has normal power supply. Board power-on check is complete. If no, go to Step 11.

Step 10 Check the power cables of the DDPU. Reinstall the cable and see if the indicators on the DDPU panel flash slowly (0.5 Hz). If yes, infer that the DDPU has normal power supply. Board power-on check is complete. If no, go to Step 11. Step 11 Contact Huawei for fault location. Clear the faults and then perform Step 8 again until the indicators on the DDPU panels flash slowly (0.5 Hz). ----End

Handling Suggestion Check whether the low voltage is caused by automatic discharge after a long period. If the low voltage is caused by automatic discharge after a long period, press the ON button (located in the hole) on the PMU panel using a proper tool. Wait until you hear a click sound. Then go to the next step. Otherwise, check whether the batteries are normal. If the batteries are faulty, clear the fault, and then measure the voltage of the battery again.
The connection is correct. Press the ON button (located in the hole) on the PMU panel using a proper tool. Wait until you hear a click sound. Then go to the next step.
Step 3 Turn off the AC power input switch, and check whether the BTS3012AE can work well with reference to the board indicators. If yes, the batteries are functional. The power-on check of the batteries is complete. If no, the batteries are faulty. Go to Step 4. Step 4 Press the button in the hole labeled OFF on the PMU panel to power off the battery. After the fault is cleared, power on the BTS3012AE again until the BTS works well. If all the power-on checks have been passed, the power supply system of the BTS is functional. ----End
