Project 58

Your donations helped a WOLC member, struggling with illness, purchase food and medicine. Project 58 is a church-wide initiative based on Isaiah 58: "Is this not the fast that I have chosen.... Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor that are cast out..." We invite you to fast lunch on Fridays, bring the money you would have spent on lunch to church, and drop the funds in the Project 58 receptacle at church. Project 58 funds are use to help people in need throughout our community. By fasting Friday lunch, in a small but deliberate way, we resist the consumerism of the age. Every week, in the Opportunities to Serve section of the bulletin, you can read about where your Project 58 dollars were put to use.

Open Door Food Kitchen & Second Harvest Community Food Bank

WOLC volunteers actively support these programs in a variety of ways. New opportunities are available this summer, including a community garden and a summer lunch program for kids. Contact Megan Taylor at the church office for more information.

Finding God on Your iPod

New Message Series
Poets and songwriters communicate the beautiful and the sublime. They communicate important and true things. In this popular summer series, we will pay attention to the work of some of our best contemporary songwriters and what they are saying about 21st century culture. Join us for Finding God on Your iPod during our Sunday and Friday services, beginning July 28 and continuing through August 30.

Prayer for the week: Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Project Backpack

It's time for Project Backpack, our annual school supply drive for children in need in our community. For the past six years, Word of Life Church has provided supplies for kids in schools right here in St. Joseph. Once again, we are sponsoring children at Humboldt Elementary and Robidoux Middle School, as well as children in our own church. This year, our goal is to sponsor 200 kids. Please stop by the table in the foyer to find out how you can help a child in need during this back-to-school season.

Our MYC High School students and adult sponsors have just returned from Desperation Camp in Colorado Springs, CO on June 25-30. The trip had a deep impact on everyone who participated. It was an exciting week, filled with activities, latenight concerts, and a great place to make new friends. Everyone was challenged to consider what it means to follow Christ and to become lifelong disciples of Jesus. Special thanks to those who donated money to help provide scholarships for youth who could not otherwise attend camp.
