Short View: Global Governance LONG KimKhorn 61283, PUC, MA.

IRs & Diplomacy July 10, 2013 Global governance is not the global government. Global governance is the international management initiative, norm, regulation, law, treaty, and procedure to build and maintain peace, political stability, economic corporation and respect human rights with the mutual interest and relationship among sovereign states under the recognized inter-governmental organization like the United Nations, European Union and ASEAN or under the international organizations such as IMF and WTO. After the First World War with the initiative of US and others countries plus the group of civil societies NGOs, INGOs, IOs proposed the global governance in the name the League of Nations aiming to prevent the Second World War, stabilize global politics and secure the international peace. To join the League of Nations means to accept the treaty of the League that means for America has to cut down its power and it is the reason that US didnt join the League and it is also a reason among many to erupt the World War II. With the initiative of US president Woodrow Wilson, the League of Nations upgraded to the United Nations signed in Sanfrancisco, America, in 1945 after the end of WWII. The United Nations is the venue to produce collective security, lay down international norm and procedure to solve the countries, region and international disputes. It is also the place for the head of states and head of government to talk/ negotiate peace and trade deal. It is not just the body but with legitimate and power to implement international order through it organs like security council, WTO, IMF, WHO and so on. Furthermore, it is a place to vote for country the sovereignty and/ or to punish any country, if those violate principal of human rights or commit crime against humanity or war crime through it superior court International Court of Justice (ICJ). So far, the UN as the global governance plays very important role in peace making, peace building and peace keeping and also grant the international credit in ending

civil wars in every part of the world including civil war in Cambodia between 1975 to 1979 and set up the first free and fair election in 1993 and also core institutions to run the failed state of Cambodia. But these achievements not come faithfully but from the State Member of the UN that even though they are sovereign states but they play the most important actor/ role in the UNs agenda implementation for peace and political stability with the respect of human rights. -END-
