Design Manager

TI Automotive - Greater Detroit Area

Job Description
TI Automotive has an immediate opening for a Design Manager in our Auburn Hills Technical Center. The selected candidate will manage and direct the design staff (approximately 17 employees) in the accomplishment of departmental, subsidiary and corporate objectives in a cost efficient and orderly manner, while ensuring that drawings and designs are completed on time and adhering to the established specifications and standards.

Mandatory Skills, Competencies, Knowledge and Experience: 1. Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership and direction, and reviews the work and performance of assigned staff. 2. Provides leadership, technical advice and counsel to Design Supervisors and Designers. 3. Reports to management, as required. 4. Chair staff meetings and provide reports to management on metrics. 5. Support company goals and objectives. 6. Confers with Engineering Managers and Designer Supervisors on design concepts, parameters, objectives and requirements. 7. Trains and develops assigned staff so that growth of skills is assured across software and product lines. 8. Interfaces with others outside the design group (engineering, plants, customers & vendors). 9. Performs such individual assignments as superiors may direct; ensures adequate and continuous controls are exercised over all assigned activities affecting quality; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. 10. Single point of contact to various departments: IT for computers, license servers and file storage; other TI facilities for drawing related concerns; contract houses for outsourcing work. 11. Create and work with Purchasing to ensure purchase orders are processed appropriately and follow up with Finance to ensure vendors and suppliers are paid. 12. Maintains discipline with the group, and finds ways to improve quality, productivity and performance of the group. 13. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 14. Conduct employee performance evaluations annually. 15. Performs related duties and special projects as assigned. 16. May be required to occasionally travel to plant or customer sites.

Desired Skills & Experience

1. Technical knowledge and capabilities typically acquired in the completion of a Bachelors degree in Engineering Design or related discipline. 2. Ten or more years of progressively more complex and demanding assignments. 3. Has exhibited supervisory skills in the day-to-day direction of other staff while assigned to lower level positions. 4. Has a proven record of budget management.
