PRESS RELEASE ****************************************************************************** STATEMENT FROM THE UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION OF TANZANIA ON THE KILLING OF SEVEN PEACEKEEPERS IN DARFUR

The United Nations Association of Tanzania is profoundly saddened by the death of seven peacekeepers and is concerned for the fourteen other soldiers who remain wounded by the ambush by armed assailants on the UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) convoy on the morning of 13th July 2013. The United Nations Association conveys its deepest condolences to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, the Tanzania Armed Forces and the bereaved families. The United Nations Association of Tanzania reiterates the UN Secretary Generals affirmation in condemning the atrocious attack and in expecting that urgent action will be taken by the Government of Sudan to bring the perpetrators to justice. The United Nations Association of Tanzania also wishes to call for continued and unwavering support of Tanzania to United Nations Peace Missions. This act should only strengthen our resolve and commitment to the course of Peace and Justice in Africa and beyond.
