CANAAN VOTED YES!

Sunday, April 14, 2013 was a historic moment for Canaan Baptist Church. As a church family we came together and voted to move forward with the Capital Campaign Manager and Architect chosen for the Phase 2 Build. For the past year, the Steering Committee has been researching, interviewing, and performing months of due diligence. All of the candidates interviewed had previous experience working with churches comparable to Canaan in size and scope and each would have been an excellent choice for Canaan. With much prayer, the Phase 2 Steering Committee came to a decision on who Canaan should work with for this season. The church voted and approved their recommendation. Pastor Bullock opened by sharing with the congregation the importance of the meeting and reminded us how God has blessed Canaan through the years.

Projected on the monitors were the Phase 2 Finance Committees budget worksheets which are updated monthly. Deacon Green advised that only 40% of the members participated in the Phase 1 Project and we will need 100% participation for Phase 2. Architects, Harvey Myers & Sons from Princeton NJ, presented several schematic sketches. Their designs included a kitchen, multi-purpose room, classrooms, and conference rooms. They stressed their designs were preliminary ideas to begin discussions. Ken Friar, Executive Vice President of INJOY Stewardship Solutions (ISS) in Atlanta GA, discussed the Biblical premise for a Capital Campaign. He shared that ISS was founded by Pastor Dr. John C. Maxwell and they have partnered with approximately 5000 churches and raised over $5 billion since 1992. Kens goal is to partner with Canaan while guided by the Holy Spirit.

PHASE 2 PROJECT OVERVIEW

Discovery & Planning: During this initial phase our goal was to understand Canaans needs and what should be built in Phase 2. We also evaluated what Canaan could afford, how much space is needed, and developed a ballpark idea of what the costs are. This was also a time to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the current facility. Architect Design: Once we have an understanding of the affordability, space needs and an estimate on the cost of construction, the design phase begins. The design phase is when the Architect begins to take the information gathered in the Program Report and translates the vision of the church into drawings. Once the master plan is complete the Architect will begin the schematic design. The schematic design shows more detail than the master plan and outlines what ministry space will occupy each area of the building. Capital Campaign: Canaans Capital Campaign Program will be rooted in Biblical Stewardship principals to lead us through a time of spiritual growth and prayerful consideration of how God would have us respond to needs and opportunities. Most Capital Campaigns take 4-6 months to complete the planning and active campaign phases and up to three years for pledge payments to be fully collected. Secure Financing: The Finance Committee has been working on a preliminary budget. This includes the preliminary design, legal services, permits, construction and design costs. There are a number of financing options available to Canaan that are actively being explored. The Finance Committee is conducting research to find the source that best fits our needs. Construction Documents: Once Canaan is satisfied with the schematic design, the Architect and his team begin working on the construction documents. This part of the process includes the addition of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural design for the project. Once the construction documents are complete, the plans are taken to the local building authorities for permitting. Ground Breaking & Construction: The construction is the final stage of the building process. We will be working with a General Contractor who will turn the Architects design into reality. Canaan Dedication Ceremony: There will be a ceremony to give honor to God for blessing Canaan to be able to grow and meet the needs of Gods people. "Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."
Ephesians 3:21
