The academic and support staff are very caring and responsive, and theres a very special and intimate atmosphere here - the community spirit in the School is self evident.

We understand different students have different needs and one of the core philosophies of the School is our flexible and caring approach to each individual. We work hard to maintain small class sizes which means we have a very high teacher-to-student ratio. GSoM places a strong emphasis on subjects that employers value and this is rewarded with the excellent job prospects and career opportunities enjoyed by our graduates. Welcome Message from Dr William Hunt Principal

Greenwich School of Management has been educating students from every corner of the world for nearly 40 years. Over that time, many thousands of GSoM students have accomplished great things in their careers and I like to think that their time here played a part in that success. Such is the depth of our relationship with our students we now find ourselves teaching many of the children of our alumni. The world we all share is changing and there is more need now than ever before for talented individuals to educate themselves in areas which offer the greatest chance of employment. Studying at GSoM will prepare you for a lifetime of rewarding and exciting work within the dynamic, innovative and constantly evolving worlds of business management, accounting and finance, economics, information technology and human resource management. We also have a number of more specialist departments within the School focussing on Law, the Energy Sector (Oil & Gas), Computer Science and Travel & Tourism. The School offers a wide range of management and business related degrees, almost as diverse as the wonderfully cosmopolitan mix of students who study here. Nearly 80% of our undergraduates come from the UK and the EU with the remainder joining us from over 60 different countries worldwide. This exposure to a multitude of cultures adds enormous value to your studies and you will find the whole experience is truly life enhancing. Because were smaller than many of the traditional universities we are able to offer greater flexibility for admission on to our programmes, as well as several possible study options. For example, all our bachelors degrees are available to study over either 2 or 3 years depending on your preference and needs, and students without the conventional entry requirements can opt for an extended bachelors programme which includes an additional 8 month study period instead of studying a separate foundation course. Mature candidates with good work experience will always be considered on their merits as GSoM are far more interested in where you are going rather than where you have come from. I am sure that if you decide to follow a bachelors degree programme at Greenwich School of Management it will be a decision that will result in a major step in your career development. You will acquire an excellent Plymouth University degree through an internationally acclaimed management School, whilst acquiring relevant management skills that will differentiate you in an increasingly competitive business environment.

WELCOME Message from Professor David Wheeler, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean, Plymouth Business School, Plymouth University
The bachelor degree programmes at the Greenwich School of Management are designed to equip students with contemporary management skills and a keen awareness of the rapidly changing nature of the external business environment. The programmes lead to either a BSc (Hons), BA (Hons) or an LLB (Hons) degree from Plymouth University and so fit with our joint mission to provide the best possible education to our students, wherever that learning occurs. Such knowledge and understanding provides all of our students with the essential support required to develop a successful career in business, management or law. The current economic climate has led to organisations placing an increased emphasis on higher education, particularly at the bachelor degree level. A good quality degree is frequently seen as an essential prerequisite for employment opportunities and progress within an organisation. This is because experience has shown that generally graduates and particularly management graduates have developed innovative and creative ways of thinking and possess important analytical and decision-making skills. Like the Greenwich School of Management, Plymouth University Business School sets out to equip students with relevant knowledge and skills in the business, management and legal domains. We aim to graduate the most employable, engaged and entrepreneurial students in the UK. Thus, at Plymouth and at Greenwich we actively encourage our undergraduates to be selfreliant, committed and enterprising. The result being that both institutions are proud of the achievements of our graduates; excellent employment records, with a high proportion going on to build successful and rewarding careers in management and other professions both in the United Kingdom and abroad. I do hope that you decide to register for a degree with the Greenwich School of Management. It will give me great pleasure in welcoming you as a student to an Affiliated School of Plymouth University. And I look forward to meeting you at the graduation ceremony held in our beautiful setting on the coast in Devon, South West England.

ABOUT LONDON
When you choose a place to study its not just the university that you choose, you also choose a city. There is no better city to study in than London, the largest city in Western Europe. Its a vibrant and exciting place to live, work, relax and learn. With nearly eight million people living here, London is a bustling city, but its also home to four World Heritage Sites and literally hundreds of famous landmarks. Its a city packed with innumerable museums, galleries, libraries, sporting facilities and over 40 theatres as well as countless restaurants, bars and clubs. For students specialising in business, management, law, information technology and travel and tourism, London is an exceptional place to study. It is the principal location for many leading multinational companies and organisations (more than 100 of Europes 500 largest companies are based here) and the capital prides itself on an almost limitless supply of information resources. The capital contains a diverse mix of cultures and with over 300 languages spoken it is probably the most cosmopolitan place on earth. The West End, Londons major centre for the arts and entertainment is a short trip on the bus, train or by boat up the River Thames, as is The City (the commercial beating heart of London). Canary Wharf (the epicentre of the global financial community) contains the headquarters of numerous global organisations, as well as a wealth of sports, leisure, shopping and entertainment facilities and is just across the River Thames from Greenwich. London is an incredible city and is constantly evolving, but 2012 will be a particularly extraordinary year in our history when we host the 2012 Olympic Games. Greenwich will play host to many events and the buzz and excitement surrounding the Games will undoubtedly live on in us all for years to come.

ABOUT GREENWICH
Set on the south bank of the River Thames just five miles (ten minutes) from central London, Greenwich is a truly fascinating and historic town where east literally meets west. Its a buzzing student town with a thriving social scene and a wealth of clubs, pubs, eating places, galleries and museums. A stones throw from the School, Greenwich Park (one of the Royal Parks) is one of the largest single green spaces in London covering 180 acres - perfect for impromptu football, an alfresco lunch or just lazing away a couple of hours between lessons! The Royal Observatory stands proud in the park together with the National Maritime Museum and the Queens House (upon which the White House in the USA is based). Greenwich is a well connected place and surprisingly easy to reach if you are commuting for your studies. If you base yourself in the town then youre never far away from everything London has to offer. Theres a multitude of transport links including the overground train network, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), the London Underground (Tube), an extensive bus network and of course, the Thames Clipper commuter boat service. For students with an interest in culture and history, Greenwich has a long heritage going back over 1000 years. It was the birthplace of King Henry VIII and his daughters Queen Mary (Bloody Mary) and Queen Elizabeth I (The Virgin Queen). The Prime Meridian (zero degrees of longitude) passes directly through Greenwich and world time is set from Greenwich. Its a lively, artistic and cultural town and rich in maritime history.

Careers CentrE

With a strong emphasis on delivering education with a big return on your investment, employability is a crucial element of our service to you as a student (and continues long after your graduation). The GSoM Careers Centre, a dedicated walk-in advice and support clinic, is designed to help you hone your core skills whilst you study and help you find a high quality and rewarding career once youve graduated. The centre is here to support you with

one-to-one careers advice, CV preparation, improving your interview techniques and developing your job search skills. We offer a comprehensive and completely free recruitment service to local employers and organise many specialist career and recruitment events throughout the year. We also provide links with volunteer organisations, helping you to gain valuable and transferable experience during your studies.

Building on years of success, the Careers Centre is currently undergoing a radical expansion which, once complete, will form one of the cornerstone services the School has to offer you. We are working to strengthen our already strong links within the business community by placing a deeper emphasis on guaranteed work placements and internships. You will be one of the first students to benefit from these plans.

STUDENT FINANCE

There has been a lot of information within the media about tuition fees and student finance recently, not all of it accurate or helpful. Many potential students are confused about what exactly is happening and how everything will work in the future. First and foremost, you can rest assured its not nearly as complicated as it first seems. We work hard to help you get things sorted quickly and efficiently and we have good relations with the Student Loan Company (who provide student finance). Moreover, GSoM offer a dedicated Student Finance Advice Clinic which is freely available to you and is designed to assist you with your student loan application process.

There are 3 key things to remember

1. Students dont pay back tuition fee loans 2. Youre only asked to pay once you have graduated 3. You only start paying back your Student Loan once youre earning over a certain amount, and you are only asked to pay back a relatively small percentage of your income.

There are 3 types of support offered

Most UK and EU nationals are entitled to receive financial support with their studies (with a few exceptions). This is broken down into three parts 1. Tuition Fee Loan. This covers all (or most) of your course fees.

2. Student Maintenance Grant. This is a grant to help you with your living costs whilst you study. The amount you receive will depend on your family circumstances and you do not need to pay this back. 3. Student Maintenance Loan. Again, this is to help you with your living costs and is means- tested which means the amount you receive depends on your family circumstances. You will need to pay this back once you have a well paid job (like your Tuition Fee Loan). Remember, were here to help and you are always welcome to come in and see one of our friendly advisors to chat everything over if you are not sure how things will work for you personally. We will try our best to help and if we cant help, well find you someone who can.

Were very proud to have been one of the first independent institutions awarded Highly Trusted Sponsor (HTS) status by the UKBA. The speed at which we obtained HTS demonstrates the quality of our provision and support for international students, and recognises the effort we put in to achieving the highest level of compliance required by the UKBA.

Tier 4 Compliance Team for any advice regarding the current regulations on +44 (0)20 8516 7800.

Tuition fees and living expenses

To apply for a Tier 4 Student Visa you must show that you have sufficient funds to pay your first years tuition fees plus enough money to cover your monthly living costs whilst you are studying in the UK. The amount of living costs you need to show will depend on whether you already have an established presence studying in the UK. You have an established presence studying in the UK if: you have current immigration permission as a Tier 4 migrant or student (pre Tier 4) and have finished a single course of six months or more during your this immigration permission, or are applying to continue your studies on a single course which you have already been following for six months or more. If you have an established presence you must show that you have enough money for your first years course fees plus 600 for living costs per month for 2 months (1200 living costs in total).

If you do not have an established presence you must show that you have enough money for your first years course fees plus 600 for living costs per month for 9 months (5400 living costs in total). You must show you have the required level of funds in place for a consecutive 28 day period ending no more than 1 month before the date of your application.

Further advice
At the time of going to press the above information was correct, but to get the very latest and most up to date information regarding Student Visas you should visit the UKBA website at http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk You can also visit our dedicated International Student Zone on our website which has a wealth of information to help you. Finally, you are of course always welcome to phone one of our Course Advisors or our UKBA compliance team during normal working hours (or drop in if youre already in the UK).

Our commitment to you

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) student visa regulations are complex and its crucial that you follow the immigration procedures precisely. GSoM understand how difficult and impenetrable the immigration process may seem. Thats why weve invested heavily in a dedicated International Student Advice Team who travel the world supporting our prospective students. They are backed up by several permanent international offices and a dedicated and committed UKBA compliance team to help guide you through the system. Within days of being offered a place the compliance team will be in touch to help kick-start the process.

Who needs a visa?

If you are an international student and not a European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss National you will need to apply for entry clearance (commonly known as a Tier 4 Student Visa) before coming to study in the UK. If you are an EEA or Swiss National and have been accepted on to one of our programmes then you are entitled to enter the UK without a visa and have the right of residence for the duration of the course. If you do need a student visa its important that you are aware you cannot obtain one on arrival in the UK. You should not enter the country on a visitors visa if you intend to study.
