--ZERO DISCHARGE SYSTEM OF WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT INAUGURATED --SENSE OF PRIDE AND MOTIVATION HIGHLY VISIBLE AMONG RINL COLLECTIVE ADDL.SECRETARY OF STEEL Sri S Machendra Nathan, IAS, Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor, Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India said that the government is highly impressive about the efficiency of the RINL collective and always supporting RINL in its journey towards excellence and scaling to newer heights. He made the observation today at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant after inaugurating the Zero Discharge System of Waste Water Treatment Plant built at a cost of around Rs. 25 crores. Sri Machendra Nathan said that sense of pride and motivation among RINL collective is very high and expressed his happiness at the operational performance and efficiency of the plant. He said that innovation, hard work and dedication of the employees helped RINL for attracting the government attention. RINL achieved several bench marks in techno economic parameters which are very vital for the success of the organisation, he added. Sri Machendra Nathan was so impressive about RINL after witnessing the production of Hot Metal from the new Blast Furnace -3 today morning following in blowing-in of BF-3 by two employees of RINL on Tuesday (24th April). RINL is the first unit in the entire Steel Industry in the country to get the Zero Discharge System of Waste Water Treatment Plant knows as Appikonda Waste Water Treatment Plant (AWWTP). Sri AP Choudhary, CMD, RINL, VSP congratulated the RINL collective and its associating agencies, partners for completing the plant early since water is highly precious and important. S/Sri Umesh Chandra, Director (Operations), P Madhusudan, Director (Finance), TK Chand, Director (Commercial), YR Reddy, Director (Personnel), NS Rao, Director (Projects) graced the

occasion and complimented the entire collective for successfully commissioning the water treatment plant at a crucial stage of expansion. The AWWTP is installed to reclaim, treat and reuse the waste water containing effluents. The major equipments of AWWTP are Oil Separator, Clarifloccurator, Pressure and Filter, ultra filtration and Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration systems. The waste water of 500 cum per hour from the process, leakages and the cooling tower blow down which is discharged through storm water outlets is collected at the boundary in a pond and pumped through Appikonda Transfer Pump Station located at 2 kms from the treatment plant. The plant will produce soft water and it will be used in Blast Furnace-3, Steel Melt Shop2, Wire Rod Mill-2, Special Bar Mill and Special Structural Mill in the expansion area. This permeate (treated water) is also used as make up water at cooling towers proposed for Turbo Blower-4 and Turbo Generator-5. The new plant will also generate soft water of 2.25 mgd. Sri MV Rao, GM (EnMD &ISO), Sri N Hariharan, GM (Projects) , senior officers, Steel Executive Association President and General Secretary, Sri Satyanarayana, Sri Tagore respectively, union leaders Sri G Bose Babu and Sri RS Raju from AITUC, Sri Y Mastanappa from INTUC, representatives of SC & ST Association and large number of employees attended the function.
