TRAINING ON EXTENSION DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR NEW TECHNICIANS

I. RATIONALE One of the concepts of agricultural extension is the promotion and development of agricultural knowledge, skills and practices founded on scientific research and farmers initiatives. Agricultural extension workers in the municipality of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro have no need formal training on Extension Delivery Systems. Likewise, the extension system they usually applied is based on their experience and guts. The newly hired technicians are fresh graduates with limited experience and or weak foundation on extension works. They are the key elements in disseminating information and practices critical to farmers success. Therefore, it is necessary to provide them with formal training on Extension Delivery System to equip them on the right knowledge, attitude and skills for successful extension works. II. OBJECTIVES General Generally, the training course aims the participants to have a strong foundation on Extension Delivery System to utilize in implementation of DA Extension Program for a sustainable agriculture through organic farming. At the end of the 6-day training course, participants be able to: Identify the importance of communication skills to the Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs); Review the leadership and values in agriculture; Define the meaning and concept of extension; Discuss the approaches, strategies and methods in extension works; Formulate an action plan for their concerned areas; Make good and suitable visual aids for a more effective presentation;

METHODOLOGIES TRAINING PREPARATION This training was requested by the Municipal Agriculturist of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro for their twenty five agricultural extension workers. In addition, 10 seklected new AEWs in the province will be invited in collaboration with the DA-RFU IV-B and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist. Training design will come from ATI-RTC IV-B, resource speakers, technical and support staffs as well. Communication letters will be disseminated two (2) weeks before the training proper to inform all parties concerned. Supplies and materials, and other pretraining related documents will be prepared and completed at least two days before the event. Attendance and resource person profile will be taken at registration time.

TRAINING PROPER Activities to be implemented training will be observed: on the conduct of

1. Lecture, discussions, role playing, workshops, demonstration and experience sharing will be used for the presentation of topics. 2. Ice-breakers will be done on or during holy hours to level-up and maintain the energy of everyone 3. Different visual aids will be prepared and utilized for effective presentation and discussion of topic. 4. Individual and group presentation for the application of the learned techniques and methods will be used to make learnings more permanent and lasting. 5. Evaluation will be done to measure the effectiveness of the training and its result will used to improve future trainings. POST TRAINING ACTIVITY After the training course, the municipal agriculturist will monitor the implementation of individual action plan and its developments, also self improvement of everyone will be observed. V. TYPE AND NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS Participants of the training course will come from the municipality of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro and other selected municipalities in the province. Thirty five (35) newly Agricultural Extension Workers are expected to participate particularly those who have no formal training on extension delivery system. VI. VENUE AND DATE OF TRAINING The training course will be held at Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro. It is six day live-in training and will be conducted on March 1-6, 2011. Resource persons and training management are expected to arrive a day before the training day and participants are expected to come an hour before the training proper.
