1.1 About This Document 1.2 Platform Functions
Overview
This manual describes the functions, operation procedures, detailed parameter settings, problems, and subsequent version plan of the WiMAX APUS V1.0 Beta. It does not involve the specific algorithms of the tool. It is intended for APUS users to understand its operations, usage, parameter settings, and existing problems.
The WiMAX APUS tool V1.0 Beta is intended for the WiMAX network and integrated with the relatively independent functions of automatically planning the WiMAX frequencies, preambles, and neighboring cells. The WiMAX APUS V1.0 Beta does not provide the multicarrier planning function because the multi-carrier planning scheme requirements are to be clarified. The automatic frequency, preamble, and neighboring cell planning functions of the tool are described as follows: 1. Frequency Planning The frequency planning is performed by the Frequency Plan module. After engineering parameters are imported, the frequency planning schemes in the multi-frequency, singlefrequency FFR, multi-frequency FFR, and FDD pre-planning scenarios. The multicarrier scenario is not supported temporarily. Only the frequency planning results are displayed. In the case of FFR network, frequency planning and segment planning results are displayed, and a maximum of 18 frequency channels and six sectors are supported. The planning results can be directly exported to an EXCEL or KML file. 2. Preamble Planning The preamble planning is performed by the Preamble Plan module. After engineering parameters are imported, the Preamble, ULPermbase, DLPermbase, and CDMAStart planning can be implemented in the single-frequency FFR, multi-frequency FFR, and multi-frequency PUSC with all SC networks. The preamble planning involves the segment and IDCELL influences. The preamble reuse planning also involves minimization of the segment and IDCELL interference. The planning results can be directly exported to an EXCEL or KML file. 3. Neighboring Cell Planning The neighboring cell planning is performed by the Neighbour Plan module. After

engineering parameters are imported, the automatic planning of WiMAX neighbor cells can be implemented. With the forced preventive measure in the neighboring cell planning, the two cells with the same frequency and preamble cannot be neighboring cells of the same cell.
Program Running
The running interface of the prototype tool consists of three parts: menu and shortcut icon bar, data display area, and status bar. The menu and shortcut icon bar provides function options. You can specify the frequency, preamble, and neighboring cell planning functions here. The data display area displays the data to be planned and the imported engineering parameters. The status bar displays the current planning status.

10. Latitude(): Latitude of the BS, for example, 12.12548. This parameter is mandatory for automatic planning. 11. NeedToPlan: Whether to plan the carrier. YES: to plan the carrier; NO: not to change the existing settings. This parameter is mandatory for automatic planning. 12. Frequency: ID of the frequency channel. The value ranges from 1 to N. 13. SegmentID: ID of the segment. The value ranges form 0 to 2. 14. IDCell: Permbase of the first DL zone. The value ranges from 0 to 31. 15. PreambleIndex: Index of the preamble. The value ranges from 0 to 95. 16. ULPUSCPERMBASE: ULPermbase setting for the UL PUSC network. 17. ULPUSCALLPERMBASE: ULPermbase setting for the UL with All network. 18. DLPUSCALLPERMBASE: DLPermbase setting for the DL with All network. 19. DLPUSCALLPRBSID: DLPermbase setting for the DL with All network. 20. DLPUSCSTCPERMBASE: Permbase setting of STCZone for the DL PUSC network. 21. DLPUSCSTCPRBSID: PRBSID setting of STCZone for the DL PUSC network. 22. DLPUSCALLSTCPERMBASE: Permbase setting of STCZone for the DL with All network. 23. DLPUSCALLSTCPRBSID: PRBSID setting of STCZone for the DL with All network. 24. CDMAGROUPSTART: Start position of the UL CDMA Ranging code.

Automatic Planning
Step 2 Click the import button to import the engineering parameters required for planning. During import, ensure that the engineering parameter table complies with specifications and contains all the required information (for details, see section 2.2"Input Engineering Parameters"). After the engineering parameters are imported, the frequency planning button is available, as shown in the following figure.
2013-7-9
Step 3 Click the frequency planning button. The Set Parameter dialog box is displayed, as shown in the following figure.
The following describes how to set the parameters by examples: Three continuous frequency channels are available. To implement FFR network, enter 3 in Total Frequency Numbers, and then select FFR. Six discontinuous frequency channels (FDD frequency resources) are available. To implement PUSC with all SC network, enter 6 in Total Frequency Numbers, and then select FDD and PUSC with all SC. Use the planning of the FFR with three frequency channels as an example. After the planning is completed, the optimization button is available. The following figure shows the planning results.
Remarks: This version does not support multi-carrier planning. With regard to pre-planning of FDD frequency spectrum resources, if multiple carriers and the FDD planning mode are selected, available frequency channels are evenly distributed on both sides of the FDD frequency spectrum. Frequency planning ensures that the same BS uses the frequency channels evenly. The current version adds the frequency bandwidth option because multiple carriers of the same sector are in the same filter. Step 4 Click the Export button. The Export File window is displayed, as shown in the following figure.
You can select the EXCEL or KML file to export data. Step 5 (Optional): If the frequency planning results are unsatisfying, you can perform optimization. Click the Optimize button. A dialog box is displayed, as shown in the following figure. (It is
2013-7-9
recommended that the optimization time should not be less than 5 minutes.)
After the optimization is complete, you can export the results by referring to step 4.
Step 3 Click the preamble planning button. The Preamble Parameter Set dialog box is displayed, as shown in the following figure.
Remarks: There are five preamble planning scenarios. The planning results vary in different scenarios.

Single Frequency PUSC With ALL: Single-frequency PUSC with all SC network Single Frequency FFR: Single-frequency FFR network Single Frequency 1/3: Single-frequency PUSC 1/3 network Multi-Frequency: Multi-frequency PUSC with all SC network Multi-Frequency FFR: Multi-frequency FFR network 10 MHz: Frequency channels are 10 MHz. For the current version, ULWithAllPermbase has a maximum of 32 values. 5 MHz: Frequency channels are 5 MHz. For the current version, ULWithAllPermbase has a maximum of 16 values. Step 4 Click the Export button. The Export File window is displayed, as shown in the following figure.
Step 3 Click the neighboring cell planning button. The Neighbour Parameter Set dialog box is displayed, as shown in the following figure.
