The tables above present the body masses of captive born bengal tigers in North American and Australian Zoo's, Sanctuaries, or other facilities. Facilities contacted via personnel communication where asked the body mass of their cats and if they were pure bred tigers. Further confirmation on the purity of each big cat was also based on picture evidence of stripe pattern. Bengal tigers in Western zoo's were significantly heavier than bengal tigers born in Asian zoo's, averaging 213 kg for males and 141 kg for females in Western zoo's, and averaged 183.3 kg in Indian zoo's (Sontakke et al, 2009).
