The course is for students who want to develop specialized reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills for business study purposes (mini MBA program). Since the goal of the course is to prepare students for successful communication in the business world, a range of material is to be presented to help in understanding key areas of contemporary business, economics, advertising, marketing, HR, and finance, in addition to introducing and practising specific vocabulary. The primary goal of the course is to provide instruction and practice in oral and written intermediate Business English level using authentic business texts and situations. The course is also aimed at preparing students for successful business studies by developing academic skills.

Course Objectives
The objective of the course is to help students learn how to do business in English, and the language they need to do it. It also develops: o intermediate business vocabulary and grammar; o understanding of authentic business texts; o understanding and speaking skills in typical business situations; o fluency in using the target language in realistic business situations; and o guided writing using appropriate style and register.

Course Content
This course consists of 5 modules; each consists of 3 topics: o Module 1: Company Structure, Business environment, and Company Performance; 1

o Module 2: Recruitment, Setting up a Business, and Business Media; o Module 3: Corporate Alliances and Acquisitions, International Business Style, and Stock Market; o Module 4: Product and Corporate Advertising, Marketing, and Retailing; and o Module 5: Banking, Import and Export, and Franchising.

Prerequisites
None in particular apart from general English skills at intermediate level, and good command of computer and Internet.

Course Methodology
The material includes case studies, current articles from business journals and newspapers, and texts written for learners of English as a second language. Activities will include effective participation of the learners in business topics, language exercises using video and audio input; and writing assignments focusing on business letters as well as summaries. Language and grammar work will be provided on a need to know basis to facilitate clear communication.

Assessment
Students are appraised weekly on all four skills. Each Saturday they take an online weekly quiz, and the score is to be sent by e-mail to the instructor. Listening is appraised during the week while speaking is evaluated primarily at their online performance sessions. Students are appraised as much for the impact of their communication as for its accuracy.
