AFBE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

Global Integration & Sustainability: Management Education at Crossroads

An AFBE International Conference conducted in collaboration with Calcutta Business School

Calcutta Business School, Kolkata, India December 16-17, 2013

CALL FOR PAPERS

AFBE The Asian Forum on Business Education (AFBE) was established in 1992 as a mutual self-help group of business schools in Asia or interested in Asia. All these schools wanted to improve the quality of business education they provide. They considered co-operation and collaboration with likeminded business schools in other countries to be critical, particularly in relation to international business. AFBE was established largely at the initiative of Dr. Moejono Partosoedarso, then with the UN-ESCAP in Bangkok, in consultation with Dr. Manit Boonprasert, then Vice President of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and Dr. Ruben C. Umaly, then Director of SEAMES in Bangkok. This group of academics believed that with the increasing internationalization of business, and the very rapid growth of many national economies in Asia, it was increasingly becoming essential for those involved in business education to develop an international perspective. Since its inception in 1992, AFBE has been organising international conferences to further its causes. They organised several international conferences at various places like Bangkok, Beijing, Melbourne, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City, Phuket, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Kuala Lumpur. AFBEs conference at Calcutta Business School will be its first in India. For more details, visit http://www.afbe.biz/main/

AFBE International Conference Conference Theme: Global Integration & Sustainability: Management Education at Cross Roads Purpose of the Conference: Conventionally educated MBAs are increasingly failing to address to the requirements of the industries worldwide and losing its relevance. Worldwide, many experts and industry leaders are pointing out to that. According a Report (2008) of the Centennial Global Business Summit of Harvard Business School on the topic of Business Education in the 21st Century, traditional MBA programmes were on the decline because the programs did not impart any cutting-edge education but laid too much emphasis on analytics. Such education was seen as highly academic but less practical being driven by academic agenda and not by real life business issues. Recruiters and employers wanted more emphasis on practical issues and skills such as: leadership, globalization, presentation / communication, problem identification, and self-awareness. As per the report, most recruiters and employers felt that these were not being addressed in traditional MBA programs. How does Management education remain relevant to the rapidly changing socio-economic and business scenario? How does Management education impart skills of acting under a rapidly globalizing business context? How does Management education impart the practical domain skills to graduates? How does Management education integrate itself with the emerging workplace technologies and decision making tools? Questions such as these are many in the minds of educators and industry practitioners. The AFBE Conference 2013 will explore answers to these questions by bringing together the thought leaders and stakeholders of management education from across the world. Call for papers: As a stakeholder of Management education, would you not like to contribute in finding the answers to the questions of making management education relevant to the rapidly changing context of business? Whether you are engaged in academics or in industry, we believe that the insights that you may bring forth from your research and studies will be of enormous value in making Management education relevant to the emerging realities. If you think you should contribute, please participate. Selected papers may be accepted for publications in international journals.
