Common nouns (Things): e.g. bag, book, pencil, ruler, eraser, duster. Common nouns (People): e.g. boy, girl, teacher, father, sister, doctor Common nouns (Places): e.g. school, canteen, toilet, hall, library, office. Common nouns (Animals) e.g. cat, lion, fish, dog, monkey, rabbit.

Teaching and learning activity 1. Hold up various objects. 2. Ask the pupils : What is this? 3. List the answers on blackboard. 4. Tell the pupils that these words are called Nouns 1. Teach the pupils about common nouns using power point presentation. 2. Brainstorm for nouns under the categories, ThingsPeople, Animals and Places.

1. Put four boxes labeled. Things, People, Animals and Placeson the table. 2. Carry the magic bag along and the song what is in my magic bag? 3. Get a pupil to pick a card and put into the correct box. 4. Repeat with other pupils till all the cards are put into the boxes. 5. Check with the pupils by taking the cards out of the box and say the word aloud. 1. Get pupils into eight groups. 2. Distribute the activity sheets to each group. 3. Each group has to cut out the words given and paste it according to the categories. 1. Distribute the worksheet to the pupils. 2. Pupils got to circle the common nouns found in each sentence. 1. Go through the answers with the pupils. 2. Conclusion. There are 4 categories in common nouns which is Things, People, Animals and Places.
