Examine patterns of conflict and cooperation among groups and organizations that impacted the history and development of the United States. In regards to working conditions, military conflict, and economic stability. 8.4.5.A. Compare and contrast common characteristics of the social, political, cultural, and economic groups in American history. ISTE NETS Standard 2. Communication and Collaboration - Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. ISTE NETS Standard 3. Research and Information Fluency - Students apply digital tools to gather,
evaluate, and use information. a. Plan strategies to guide inquiry b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media.

Objective(s): Students will research and learn facts concerning Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in regards to historical working conditions, military conflict, and economic stability using directions in a Presidents Day Web Quest. Students will have a greater understanding of why they are honored by the Presidents Day National Holiday and compare/contrast both presidents in regards to their social, political, and cultural status in American history.

Description of class diversity and its connection to the instructional considerations: Classroom is consistent with an equal male/female ratio. Students with exceptionalities will participate in the lessons as part of the least restrictive environment determination. Accommodations will include extra time to conduct research, special education teacher assistance with instructions and/or testing modifications based upon the exceptionality of the student. Learning styles addressed include: visual and auditory. VI. Technology inclusion: Websites for research and collaboration, computers for tools of research, and computers for assessment.

Procedures: Direct instruction followed up with guided practice utilizing a Web Quest format. Evaluation/ Assessment: Web Quest Time travelers will be evaluated using the following criteria: a) Presidential Scavenger hunt worksheet is completed. b) Comparison Venn Diagram is completed. c) Comparison Essay Test is completed. d) Work is completed on time. e) Written work is done neatly. f) Information is accurate and appropriate. g) Comparison Report is informative and attractive. Risk Analysis: Computer cart of 30 computers shall be utilized for a class size of 25 computers. If a few computers do not work (hardware or software related) or are not properly charged, students shall utilize an extra computer in the cart. If the internet goes down, the library is signed out during the week for the class to conduct research in the library for the Web Quest. Students who are absent for an extended period of time will be provided an accommodation of a loaned laptop computer and digital resource to complete homebound work.

Introduction
Welcome to our Presidents Day Web Quest on President George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln. You are a time traveler, going back in time to discover facts about these presidents. You will discover that Washington and Lincoln are among our most honored presidents. You will also find that they are our country's most beloved presidents. In this Web Quest you will find many interesting facts about these presidents, as you travel back in time to explore our national history.

TheTask
Our time travelers will travel back in time using resources on the Internet. Each time travel will have a traveling companion to help to complete research in another time period. One of our time travelers will explore the 1700's and will search for information about George Washington using the George Washington Resources. The other time traveler will explore the 1800's and will search for information about Abraham Lincoln using the Abraham Lincoln Resources. Each time traveler will record their information on the Presidential Scavenger Hunt Worksheets. Both time travelers will meet back in the present time to compare and contrast information about the two presidents. Finally, our time travelers will work together using twenty first century technology called The Ultimate Student Writing Center to present their findings.

TheProcess
Students read the following directions: Step 1 Each time traveler will need to print a copy or edit the digital copy of the Presidential Scavenger Hunt Worksheet.

Step 2 Each time traveler should choose which president they will explore. Time travelers researching Lincoln should use the Abraham Lincoln Resources. Time travelers researching Washington should use the George Washington Resources. Step 3 Time travelers should click on the appropriate resources to online links to get information about their president. Search the different web sites to find information about your president and then write the information on your Presidential Scavenger Hunt worksheet. Each time you need to get to another web site click on the website link on the Presidents Day Web Quest Lesson document. Time travelers should complete their Presidential Scavenger Hunt Worksheets. Step 4 When Scavenger Hunt worksheets are completed, the two time travelers should meet and discuss the two presidents and how they were alike as well as how they were different. Time travelers should compare and contrast the two presidents using the Comparison Venn Diagram Sheet. Time travelers should use the information gathered on the Scavenger Hunt Sheets and the Comparison Venn Diagram to write a Comparison Report utilizing MS Word. Step 5 When time travelers have completed their Venn Diagram and Comparison Report, the students should work together to do a final draft of their findings using the Ultimate Student Writing Center. Step 6 Each time traveler must test their knowledge of the presidents by taking the Presidential Comparison Essay Test. Find the section under Resources and Activities.

Conclusion
This Presidents Day Web Quest was an important project that teaches students to research information using the internet. Students searched for facts about the two presidents that are honored by a national holiday which is celebrated on the second Monday of February. Students have learned interesting facts about President George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln. Students have a greater understanding of why they are honored by our Presidents Day National Holiday.
