Graphing Systems of Equations and Testing Solutions – 2009

By the end of this class you will know how to determine if a point is a solution to a system of equations, solve a system of
equations by graphing, and determine the number of solutions to a system of equations graphically.

1. A system of equations is a set of equations such as the (e) Solve the system of equations by graphing
following:
y = 3x + 2
x − 3y = −18 y = −4x − 5
x + y = 10
−3x + y = −2

The system is graphed below.

2. The tortoise and hare problem can be represented by

a system of equations and solved by graphing. Let x
represent the race time in hours, and y the mile mark.
