Genesis 15, 16

Compare 15:1 with Psalms 3:3

What did God promise Abram? (15:4, 5)

In ancient times, two parties established a covenant by walking together through the
blood of animals, symbolizing that a broken contract resulted in blood. Who walked
through the pieces in this case? (15:17) What do you think this means?

Abram and Sarai defied God’s promise and took matters into their own hands. What were
the consequences? (16:12)

Proverbs 12

Do you love God’s discipline and correction? (12:1)

How does v12:15 relate to v11:2?

The Lord delights in men who are _____ . (v22)

What comes out of your mouth comes from what is in your _____ . (v12:23). How does
this shed light on all the other verses pertaining to the tongue and ones words.

Matthew 6

What must be the motivation for doing the good works we do? (6:1) What motivates you
to do what you do every day?

When Christians pray the Lords prayer, they are asking God to forgive them in the same
way we _______. (6:12, 14)

Where will your heart be? (6:21)

Remember 6:22 when you read Proverbs. What do you think this means?

Compare this verse with Proverbs 11:3.

What does Jesus say about worry? (6:25). How did worry affect Abram and subsequently
the generations to follow?

What keeps non-believers busy and occupied? (6:32)

How does 6:34 relate to 6:11?

Week 2, Day 2: Tuesday, 13 January 2009

Genesis 17, 18

Compare 17:1 with Matthew 5:48

How important are names to God? (17: 5, 6, 15)

Why do you think God chose circumcision as the sign of his covenant?

Where was God when He was speaking to Abraham? (17:22)

Who were the three men? (18:2, 10)

Compare 17:17 with 18:14 and 15. If Abraham and Sarah can display this lack of faith
standing with the Lord, what can be expected from those who are not this close to the
Lord? What does this say about human nature?

What is God’s purpose for Christian families? (18:19)

Why would an all-knowing, all-powerful God have a conversation with Abraham like the
one in 18:23-32?

Proverbs 13

The unfaithful have a craving for _______. (13:2). How does this relate Genesis 5:13?

Who are satisfied? (13:4)

The righteous hate ______. (13:5)

How does v9 relate to Matthew 5:14-16?

Compare v13:10 with Proverbs 11:2.

Compare 13:13 with 12:1.

What does 13:17 have to say to Christians who are salt and light?

What can you learn from 13:24 about God’s relationship with His children?
Matthew 7

What does God expect from us in our relationship with Him? (7:7)

Knowing the God only responds to us in His perfect love, and knowing that He always
takes care of us, how are we to treat others? (7:12)

How many take the correct path? (7:13, 14)

What reveals your true character? (7: 15-20)

Who will enter the kingdom of Heaven? (7:21)

What separates those who hear God’s Word? (7:24-27)

Week 2, Day 3: Wednesday, 14 January 2009

Genesis 19, 20

Who went to Sodom and how didn’t? Why? (19:1)

How godly was Lot’s thinking? (19:8)

What is the sinner’s response to those that would warn them against their sin? (19:9)

Note the appeal of the world. (19:26)

How does drunkenness contribute to sin? (19:32, 33; Gen 9:21) How do alcohol abuse
and sexual sin go together?

The Moabites and Ammonites are the product of incest. See how this impacts the rest of
history.

Why does Abraham repeat the sin he committed in Chapter 12? (20:2) What could have
been the consequences of Abraham’s sin on non-believers around him? (20:3)

In this instance, who more closely approximates God’s standards, Abraham or


Abimelech? (20:9)

Was Abraham’s judgment of those around him correct (20:11, 20:4)

Proverbs 14
How do devious people feel about God? (14:2)

What do wise people do when they sin? (14:9 – see Matthew 5:24)

Compare 14:12 with 12:15.

Are there consequences for your actions? (14:14)

What do good people find? (14:22)

What rots the bones? (14:30)

The righteous have refuge even in ______ . (14:32)

What does 15:35 say to Christians who are salt and light?

Matthew 8

Why did Jesus tell the man not to tell anyone that Jesus had healed him but to rather
present himself to the priests? (8:4)

What did Jesus say about a gentile military man? (8:10)

Who will be thrown in the darkness to make room for new believers from around the
world? (8:12)

What did the demons know about Jesus? (8:29) What were they expecting and when?

What was the crowd’s response to Jesus? (8:34)

Genesis 21, 22

What was God’s plan for Ishmael’s descendants (21:13)

Why would God as Abraham to sacrifice his son? (22:12)

Proverbs 15

Does God want your sacrifices or your obedience? (15:8)


How many times has Proverbs spoken of the temper and anger? (15:18)

Who tears down a proud man’s house? (15:25)

Compare v15:33 with Proverbs 11:2.

Matthew 9

What command does Jesus give his people? (9:9)

What does Jesus desire from his people? (9:13)

What was required of the bleeding woman to receive healing from Jesus? (9:22)

Week 2, Day 7: Sunday, 18 January 2009

Genesis 27, 28

What character traits is Rebekah instilling in her favored son Jacob? (27:6-10) Read
Proverbs 6:18. Rebekah was already told by God who would receive the inheritance, but
she chose to take matters into her own hands and pursue a sinful scheme. How many
times did Abraham model this pattern for his family?

Does Rebakah have the authority to make this statement? (27:13) Who will really suffer
the consequences of her sin?

Who did Jacob say he was? (27:19, 24)

How does verse 25:28 relate to everything that has happened?

What kind of life does sin lead to? (28:42-45) What does Proverbs have to say about this?

Compare Isaac’s command to Jacob with how Esau lived (26:34, 28:8, 9)

Have Isaac and Rebekah lived up to God’s purpose described in Genesis 18:19?

Proverbs 18

What does Proverbs 18 say about a fool? (18: 2, 6, 7)

What are some of the habit patterns you have seen from God’s people so far? (Psalms

Compare 6:2 with Proverbs 3:8, 12:4, 14:30, 15:30, 16:24, and 17:22. How do your
emotions and your spiritual health affect your physical health?
