REFLECTION ON OUR OWN LANGUAGE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

i) First 3 years : Learning a new language at any age is enormously a rewarding experience in many ways. While language learning is an enriching experience for all ages, children have the most to gain from this wonderful adventure. Hence, for my first three years of life, my mother started to teach me how to sound the alphabets. She bought a book which content all the alphabets and asked me to follow what she pronounced. After a year later, I had known all the alphabets and also I could differentiate them into two groups which are consonants and vowels.

ii) Pre-school years : Children are always discovering new things, but learning a new language is a uniquely rewarding experience at any age. Children understand intuitively that language is something to explore, to play around with and to enjoy. The quickness with which they pick up their first language is nearly miraculous and such a joy to watch as a parent. I still remember that when I was 5 years old, my parents sent my sister and my brother to English class tuition. When both of them entered the class, I started to cry because I wanted to be in that class too. After that, a kind English teacher there gave me a piece of paper and asked me to join the alphabetical dots. It was the first exercise in my childhood life and from that day, I loved to learn the language and always asked that teacher to give me more exercises.

iii) School years : School life is a very important part in human life. During the time of school life we will experience physical development, emotions, friendships, relationships, and, of course, knowledge. In primary school, where we learn our basics, we are carefree and innocent. We do not have to worry about materialistic and we have big dreams and free imagination. When I stepped into the class for the first time for my first year

of school, I loved to see one of the corners in that classroom. The corner was full with English story books. Almost every day I went there and read the books. Starting from that day, I realised that I loved to learn foreign language, especially the English language. Every time my last English teacher came into our class, I always kept focused on what she taught and basically I was the one who always volunteer to answer the question that had been asked by her. Moreover, life gets harder the older we get. We have to take on more responsibility. There are huge differences between primary and secondary school. We have to do much more for school and we need to work harder. But how much we work for a subject is related to how much we like the subject itself and how much we like our teacher and same way around. Luckily I got a caring, responsible, loving teacher for my English subject. Hence, my interest towards this English subject never fades away. She helped me a lot in my studies and at last I could get an A for my English paper.
