How Students are Supported in their Learning/Employability/Career Development The MA Design Programme recruits a diverse range of home, EU and International students from recent qualified graduates to experienced mature practitioners. The programme is delivered on campus and on line and is designed to facilitate the support of learning, employability and career development. Student learning is facilitated through an advanced understanding of theory and practice at the fore front of the discipline delivered through lectures, seminars and tutorials. On arrival students attend a comprehensive induction which introduces them to the staff and services that will support their postgraduate experience. Guidance is given throughout the programme, the nature of the design discipline encourages communication between staff and students and support is given through tutorials. For problems that might inhibit learning, students are allocated personal tutors. The School is committed to student welfare, and has a student affairs manager dedicated to the well being of our students. Other support includes: Comprehensive induction to the Programme Handbook; Language support services; Postgraduate hub - dedicated space for exclusive use of the masters programme; Subject - dedicated librarian; Student email and internet access; Technical staff and workshops; Individual timetabling and study needs; Personal tutorials; Personal Development Planning; Distance and Blended Learning Internet based systems and resources are employed in the following ways: E Learning Portal providing access to core resources and programme issues; Virtual Classroom for annotated real time student to student and student to staff chat/conferencing. Real time conferencing sessions are timetables every week; E-mail for asynchronous programme and module management and collaboration; E Learning Portal discussion boards for online design community collaboration and evidencing design practice; Virtual classroom for open access real time conferencing; Library resources including electronic gateway to inform Hylife subject guide to resources and electronic journals.
