Cavite BRIGADA ESKWELA 2011 Introduction

Brigada Eskwela is national program developed by the Department of Education as an activity to support the opening of classes. It encourages parents, teachers and other members of the community to volunteer material and nonmaterial resources and services in cleaning classrooms and school premises to provide an atmosphere conducive to learning.

As one of DepEds major initiative in enjoining the school and local communities to respond to the needs of public schools and be a part of nationwide effort towards empowering basic education in the Philippines, school heads find ways to keep the school and the community work collaboratively in the success of Brigada Eskwela.

II. ASSESSMENT OF PHYSICAL FACILITIES AND MAINTENANCE NEEDS In preparation for the Brigada Eskwela 2011, the school Physical Facilities Coordinator and PTCA representative conducted an ocular inspection of the school physical facilities and taken into an account the needed materials for maintenance and repairs of the school. Result of the inspection is documented in the Physical Facilities and Repair and Maintenance Needs Form.

III.

ADVOCACY AND SOCIAL MARKETING

The School Head attended the orientation on Brigada Eskwela initiated by the Local School Board. Meeting of the School Head, Municipal Officials and PTA Officials regarding the activities of Brigada Eskwela. Student Government campaigns for the Brigada Eskwela Program to other students. The School Head meets with different NGOs, private sectors and barangay officials for the success of Brigada Eskwela.

IV. RESOURCE MOBILIZATION The Resource Mobilization Committee determines the different resources needed, partners to be tapped and volunteer and/or paid workers to participate in the Brigada Eskwela. The accomplished Physical Facilities Repair and Maintenance Needs Assessment Form, the school was able to identify the kind of services and materials in the conduct of Brigada Eskwela. Possible potential partners are identified, such as, PTA, LGU, Social Organization, Skilled Workers and Private individuals. Each potential partner is invited to participate in the Brigada Eskwela.

V.

IMPLEMENTATION STAGE

The implementation of Brigada Eskwela also referred as the National School Maintenance Week kick off on May 23, 2011. This is the time when all the preparations done during the pre-implementation stage will take into an action. A simple program was organized and was formally open by Mrs. Julie Cortez to set the mood and stimulate the enthusiasm among the volunteers. Also, it is a time to acknowledge volunteers and stakeholders who are supporting the program. Volunteers and stakeholders are willing to finish the long week activity.
