Gospel (Matthew 10:16-25)
Behold, I send you out as sheep in the
midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents
and innocent as doves. Beware of men;
for they will deliver you up to councils,
and flog you in their synagogues, and you
will be led before governors and kings for
my sake as a witness before them and
the pagans. When you in their
synagogues, and you will be led before
governors and kings for my sake as a
witness before them and the pagans.
When they hand you over, do not worry
about how you are to speak or what you
are to say. You will be given at that
moment what you are to say. For it will
not be you who speak but the Spirit of
your Father speaking through you. Brother
will hand over brother to death, and the
father his child; children will rise up
against parents and have them put to
death. You will be hated by all because of
my name, but whoever endures to the
end will be saved. When they persecute
you in one town, flee to another. Amen, I
say to you, you will not finish the towns of
Israel before the Son of Man comes. No
disciple is above his teacher, no slave
above his master. It is enough for the
disciple that he become like his teacher,
for the slave that he become like his
master. If they have called the master of
the house Beelzebul, how much more
those of his household!
This is the truth. Peace be with you.
A reading from the frst Letter of St Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians (1 Cor12:12-13, 27-30)
Your blessings Father
Brothers and sisters,
As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are
one body, so also Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether
Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit. Now
you are Christ's body, and individually parts of it. Some people God has designated in the
church to be, first, apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers; then, mighty deeds; then,
gifts of healing, assistance, administration, and varieties of tongues. Are all apostles? Are
all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work mighty deeds? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all
speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
Praise be to God always.

St.John the Baptist ( June 24)
John the Baptist was the son of Zachary, a priest of the Temple in Jerusalem, and Elizabeth,
a kinswoman of Mary who visited her. He was probably born at Ain-Karim southwest of
Jerusalem after the Angel Gabriel had told Zachary that his wife would bear a child even
though she was an old woman. He lived as a hermit in the desert of Judea until about A.D.
27. When he was thirty, he began to preach on the banks of the Jordan against the evils of
the times and called men to penance and baptism "for the Kingdom of Heaven is close at
hand". He attracted large crowds, and when Christ came to him, John recognized Him as
the Messiah and baptized Him, saying, "It is I who need baptism from You". When Christ left
to preach in Galilee, John continued preaching in the Jordan valley. Fearful of his great
power with the people, Herod Antipas, had him arrested and imprisoned at Machaerus
Fortress on the Dead Sea when John denounced his adultrous and incestuous marriage with
Herodias, wife of his half brother Philip. John was beheaded at the request of Salome,
daughter of Herodias, who asked for his head at the instigation of her mother. John inspired
many of his followers to follow Christ when he designated Him "the Lamb of God," among
them Andrew and John, who came to know Christ through John's preaching. John is
presented in the New Testament as the last of the Old Testament prophets and the
precursor of the Messiah. His feast day is June 24th and the feast for his beheading is
August 29th.
ST. PETER ( June 29)
He was a native of the town of Bethsaida, the son of John, and was called Simon. He lived
and worked as a fisherman. Andrew his brother introduced him to Jesus, who gave him the
name Peter. When Peter acknowledged Jesus as the Christ...the son of the living God
(Mat.16:16), the Lord replied, You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church
(Mat.16:18) and I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: Whatever you bind on
earth will be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered
loosed in heaven He was the apostle to preach to the gentiles, and the first apostle to
perform miracles. He converted many people in their beliefs. He was Romes first bishop
and was crucified upside-down in 64 a.d. at the foot of the Vatican hill during the reign of the
Emperor Nero.
ST. PAUL (June 29)
He was born of Jewish parents the year (5-15 a.d.) in Taurus. Some time between 34-36
a.d. on his way to Damascus to arrest some Christians and bring them back to Jerusalem,
he experienced his famous vision. This vision led to his dramatic conversion which was to
shape the whole Christian experience. He spent the next 3 years in Arabia and then
returned to Damascus to preach. He was forced to flee from the Nabatean King between
36-39 a.d. so he went to Jerusalem where he met the apostles, and through the
sponsorship of Barnabas was accepted by the Christian community. He preached in
Antioch, Cyprus and to the Greeks where he founded a church in Corinth (50-52 a.d.) He
then went to Jerusalem to preach and was arrested for 2 years and then granted a trial in
Rome. He then went to Spain to preach and again was arrested and returned to Rome
where he was beheaded on the same day as St. Peter .

Peter .
