ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ADMISSION TO THE M.PHIL & PH.D. PROGRAMMES


This is an announcement for admission to the Integrated M.Phil & Ph.D. programme and direct Ph.D. Programme (academic year 2013-2014) with the various Schools and Independent Centres at the TISS. UGC JRF qualified candidates, post graduates, students in the final year post graduation in Social Sciences and allied fields and individuals with M.Phil and / or industrial, academic and field base experience in Social Sciences, Social work and allied fields are invited to apply. About the Programme:


Integrated M. Phil Ph. D. programme is a five year full time programme offered from TISS campuses as applicable. For M. Phil in Education, Women's Studies and Development

Studies there will be a subject specific taught M. Phil. Programme of four semesters. All the other candidates admitted in the Integrated M. Phil Ph. D programme will undergo a common course work in Research Methodology. The programme has one semester of course work and three semesters of research work. Candidates with post graduate degree in Social Sciences, Social work and related fields can apply for the M.Phil programme. Ph.D. programme can be pursued from all the TISS campuses, as applicable. Selected candidates can pursue Ph. D. either by staying on TISS campuses (if accommodation is available) or from whichever location they are in. TISS does not make any distinction among research scholars as full time and part time. However, selected candidates physically not present on the Campus, are expected to be in touch with the research guide, fulfill the necessary requirements of the Ph.D. programme, pay fees regularly, submit progress reports. The candidates who have not completed their M.Phil and are selected for Direct Ph.D., are expected to fulfill course work requirement either by attending regular courses held at the respective campuses OR by attending the Modular workshops offered every semester. This is a compulsory requirement.

Candidates applying for Integrated M.Phil/Ph.D. and Direct Ph. D. Programme in Education, Development Studies and Womens Studies should refer to the details about eligibility, rationale and objectives and programme structure is given in the separate link on the TISS website .

Application Process:
Off-line application:
o Request for Application Form and Information Brochure by POST or in person may be addressed to Section Officer (DSO) . o Application Form and Information Brochure can also be downloaded from the link at the Institute website i. e. www.tiss.edu and send by post to TISS, along with a Bank challan of Rs. 1000/- (deposited in any branch of the State Bank of India).

Important:

A candidate can apply for a maximum of two from among all programmes offered by Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses.

Use only one application form, even if you are applying for more than one programme. Application Processing Fees:

Processing fee paid by the candidates will not be refunded if they are found ineligible for any programme. Make sure that your application is complete with all required information, including fee payment details before submitting it. Incomplete application forms will be rejected.

Applications received after the due date will not be considered and the processing fee paid will also not be refunded.

On-line application:
o Candidates are encouraged to apply through the online application form which will be available on Institute website www.tiss.edu along with application procedure by February 15, 2013.

o Advantages of applying online:


1. Candidates have an option of paying the application fees using Credit card, Debit card or net banking. 2. Candidates can save the form at any stage and leave it midway. The information saved will remain intact and they can later complete the rest of the form at their convenience before the last date. 3. Candidates don't have to send the application form by post. 4. Candidates can upload their research proposal. o The Application fee is not refundable.

The last date for submission of application form is March 30, 2013. Reservation Policy:
o TISS adheres to the reservation of seats SC, ST, OBC and PWD as per the Government of India norms. o SC/ST candidates are required to submit a copy of their Caste and Parents Income (Below Rs.2,00,000/-) Certificate for exemption of application fee of Rs. 1000/-. o Traveling Allowance (TA) is paid to all the eligible SC/ST candidates for attending Written Test and Personal Interview to be held in Mumbai. For claiming TA, candidates are required to submit original travel tickets along with filled - in TA form. o The SC/ST candidates for the programme are required to submit the attested xerox copy of the AADHAAR CARD or if you have applied but not yet received the card, then submit the attested acknowledgement receipt (received at the time of application).

Admission Process:
o The list of all eligible candidates who apply for Integrated M.Phil & Ph.D. programme and direct Ph.D. Programme will be displayed on the Institute website on April 8, 2013. They will be invited for the Written Test (Research Aptitude Test (RAT) and

Personal Interview to be held at the TISS Mumbai Campus on or between 15 th to 17th April, 2013. o Candidates who have cleared JRF in the past two years are also expected to attend the Written Test and Personal Interview.* o Candidates who have GATE and any other relevant scores are also expected to take the RAT. o The model paper and rules for the Research Aptitude Test (RAT) will be put up on the TISS website by early March 2013. o Apart from the fulfillment of academic criteria the short listing of applicants for the Written Test and Personal Interviews for Integrated M. Phil Ph. D. programme and direct Ph. D. programme is linked to the statement of purpose/ research proposal and the domain expertise available at the Schools / Centre. o The selected candidates for all the programmes will be displayed on the TISS website by end to early May of April and email communications will be sent to the candidates. o Candidates with visual impairment will have to indicate the impairment in the application form. They will be provided with a writer for the written test. o Selection will be completed by end of April and the information will be uploaded on the TISS website. o Detailed Application Form : Selected Candidates will be required to download the Detailed Application Form, which will be available at www.tiss.edu after declaration of results by May 2013. All candidates are required to bring the hard copy of the form duly filled in along with original caste, income and degree certificates as applicable for verification. o Selected candidates are expected to pay fees by end of May 2013. o All the programmes will begin by mid June 2013.
