Dynamic routing of web services

Manages distributed web service endpoints and proxies in heterogeneous service-oriented architecture (SOA), mobile and cloud environments. Processes and validates messages at a central point so that only valid requests reach backend resources. Offers XML acceleration and 10-gigabit Ethernet, extended memory support for large messages and optimized load distribution. Enables self-load balancing over a cluster of appliances, reducing the need for additional front-end load balancers. Is available as a virtual edition to run in VMware hypervisor environments, powered by a purpose-built platform and designed to provide industry-leading workload functionality similar to the corresponding physical appliance.

Frontline security for inbound and outbound traffic

Performs security functions such as XML schema validation, XML encryption, XML signature and Web Services Security (WS-Security). Signs, verifies, encrypts and decrypts a variety of content for advanced authentication and authorization. Enforces security standards without the need for coding, using configurable digital signatures and open standard for authorization (OAuth). Validates incoming requests and logs malformed and malicious traffic to provide postattack forensics. Supports systems and standards such as Remote Authentication Dial-in User Service (RADIUS), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) and Extensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML).

Support for industry and regulatory compliance

Helps achieve and maintain industry/regulatory compliance such as Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance with robust data protection, policy enforcement and auditing capabilities. Integrates with IBM WebSphere Service Registry and Repository and IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for SOA integration. Provides centralized policy management and offers service-level management (SLM) alerts and logging as well as pull and enforce policies to support third-party systems and unified dashboards. Supports Web Services Policy (WS-Policy) standards such as WS-PolicyAttachment and WS-MediationPolicy. Provides a Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Level 3 certified hardware security module (HSM) as an embedded, factory-installed option. The HSM provides tamper-proof storage of private key material used for cryptographic operations performed on the appliance.
