Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 23, 2013

April 24, 2011 , 2010

Every parish in the Diocese is required to have an audit done every three years. Someone from the Finance Office of the Diocese was here last month to perform the audit & spent quite a few hours with Deacon Pete reviewing not only our financial books but procedures as well. We received a detailed summary and a member of the Finance Office of the Diocese spent a few minutes reviewing it with us at our last Finance Council Meeting. Thanks to the work of Deacon Pete, all is in good order. The fiscal year comes to a close at the end of this month & we have successfully prepared our budget for 2013-2014. So let me take this opportunity to thank you for your weekly sacrificial offerings in gratitude for Gods blessings. Thank you for the donations you make when we have a second collection to help those in emergency situations, like we did recently. And thank you for your continued faithfulness to the Capital Campaign pledge we made last year. Those quarterly checks that we receive are a very big help in meeting our budget. If you need collection envelopes, please dont hesitate to let us know & well be happy to help with that. Hopefully we remember that this is part of our sacrificial gift to God and his Church when we offer our financial support as well as all the other sacrifices of our time and efforts when the gifts of bread & wine are brought forward at Mass. Finances of course require a good knowledge of mathematics. I never liked algebra, but I persevered through it so that I can be adequately equipped for overseeing the financial responsibilities of a parish. I recently heard that 4 out of 3 people have a hard time with math. Luckily Im not one of them. I ask for your prayers on behalf of Ray Hirsch, a very active & devoted member of the parish. On Tuesday of this past week he had surgery to remove his right kidney which was diseased. He will be in recovery at the Cleveland Clinic for about a week, then has about 7 weeks of recovery at home. Ray has been a very good friend of mine for 27 years & I am grateful for all he has done for me & for our parish. He deserves our appreciation and our prayerful support during this time. Please say a Hail Mary for him as you read this now & continue to keep him in your thoughts.

DEACON'S CORNER: The U.S. Catholic Bishops have asked to join them in the current Fortnight4Freedom, from June 21 - July 4. This time on prayer and fasting is our way of asking God to help us receive justice when it comes to our gov't. trying to force it's will on our Church and individuals. This initiative has come about because the new health care law requires employers to pay for abortion inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception coverage as part of their health care plans. The first and most obvious problem with this is that these things are all elective procedures or drugs. They are not really health care at all. They are not needed to lead a good healthy lifestyle. The other problem is that these elective drugs and procedures are immoral. We should not be required to pay for them. Please go to Fortnight4Freedom.org for more information. and to learn the truth. Do not be afraid of the truth. WAYNE COUNTY FAIR: The committee has had it's first meeting in preparation for the 2013 Wayne County Fair and our Catholic Community fair booth. The dates for the fair are Sept. 7 through 12. Our parish's day to man the booth is Wed. Sept. 11. If you would like to help or are just interested in information about the booth, please call me at 440-328-6579. If you would like to donate to this good work of spreading the gospel, please make your check out to St. Anne Parish in Rittman and we will pass it on to Sr. Joan. Thank you, Dcn. Pete Vacation Bible School VBS is having a float in the Town & County Festival and needs candy donations. Any type of individually wrapped candy will be fine, but no chocolate. We also need snack bags to put the candy in. There is a box in the Gathering Room where the donations can be placed. Thanks for all your help so far!!! Our next meeting takes place on Tuesday, June 25th at 7:00pm in the West Salem United Methodist Church. ACCESS moves on this Sunday! Advance registration through July 9th is $30, and at the door $35. Celibacy---Why is it Required of Priests and Bishops? Jesus lived as a celibate and in this way intended to show his undivided love for God the Father. To follow Jesus way of life and to live in unmarried chastity for the sake of the kingdom of heaven (Mt 19:12) has been a sign of love, undivided devotion to the Lord, and of a complete willingness to serve, going back to the time of Jesus. Celibacy is the personal commitment of a person to live in the unmarried state for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Pope Benedict said celibacy cannot mean remaining empty in love, but rather must mean allowing oneself to be overcome by a passion for God.
