Challenging security threats

Working with highly sensitive information, decision-makers, and government and defense authority officials must adhere to strict procedures to safeguard confidentiality. If a countrys most closely guarded information ends up in the wrong hands, national security could be compromised. Therefore safeguards must be in place to prevent interception of calls or theft of data and contact information. Without encryption, communications may be subject to an array of attacks. The most common threat to a voice call is network eavesdropping techniques. The encryption used by operators is in many cases outdated or not even enabled, and the Internet provides ample information on how to crack standard algorithms. Since mobile phones connect to the local base station with the best signal strength, a transmission can be directed to fraudulent base stations. Easily accessible and inexpensive equipment and free software allow hackers to set up these false base stations. Through similar deception, phone calls can be intercepted and recorded, and text messages read and even manipulated. Spoofing, whereby hackers forge identities from phonebooks is yet another risk. Infringements are virtually undetectable and the victim is usually unaware of the attack until the damage is done. Being aware of the risks associated with unencrypted communication is a first step. To install appropriate security solutions for the handling of sensitive or classified information is the next. With a security solution from Sectra, users can feel safe knowing that they only reach those with whom they intend to communicate.

Tiger XS EU and NATO approved crypto

Sectras Tiger XS is in use in more than half of the EU member states and is the de facto standard for secure mobile communications within the EU. It has several national approvals and is approved by the EU and NATO at the SECRET security level. It is the only crypto phone with NATO and EU approvals for both mobile and fixed line communications. Achieving the SECRET security level is significantly more complex and demanding than one might realize. By using an appropriate access point, Tiger XS enables secure communication both on digital networks such as 2G (GSM), 3G (UMTS), ISDN and satellite networks. Connecting Tiger XS to Tiger XS Office, it can operate on standard telephone lines (PSTN). To receive encrypted faxes, it must also be connected to the Tiger XS Office. While connected to a PC, the Tiger XS can be used to send encrypted data. It can also be used with a conference phone at a protected location for meetings involving classified information. The encryption systems in Tiger XS and Tiger 7401 are compatible. This enables organizations to deploy both solutions based on the needs of the individual user. Sectras Tiger system has been in widespread international use since the 1990s. Sectra was the first to launch a secure mobile phone approved at the security level Secret. In close collaboration with customers and security authorities Tiger XS and a number of additional products for secure communication has evolved since then, through continuous product development.
