SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR INTERNSHIP IN HEALTH RESEARCH The First National Call for Applications The Consortium The Consortium for National Health Research (CNHR) is a public/private partnership of leading training, Research and health provider institution in Kenya, whose mission is to contribute to the strengthening of national health research in Kenya. This is done by providing support for multidisciplinary research to individuals, institutions, and policy makers in the health arena. The Consortium also contributes to the building of networks in health research. One of the ways the Consortium aims to strengthen national health research is to facilitate the training and retention of young scientists who both generate and use research knowledge in a multidisciplinary environment. Training and retention of young scientists is a major outcome of the various schemes, one of which is the Internship Programme. The Research Internship Programme This Programme will offer ten (10) scholarships in the first year of the internship (20082009). The scholarships will provide a maximum period of six months internship. During this period, the successful interns will benefit from very close mentorship and supervision of senior research scientists. Among the exposure likely to be experienced, interns stand to learn about modern approaches in scientific research, and gain first-hand experience from performing scientific procedures with the aid of varied sophisticated, analytical and diagnostic equipment. Through this programme, the Consortium seeks to engage with enthusiastic, motivated young graduates who understand the place of health research in the development of Kenya. Applicants should be willing to dedicate their time fully in field and laboratory conditions. They need to be well versed in computer use, and will be expected to use the Internet often to source scientific information. Eligibility: The successful interns must satisfy the following criteria: Be Kenyan citizens;

Be recent (past three years) first degree graduate in medical, biomedical or social science from a recognized institution. Graduates qualified in other disciplines that contribute to aspects of health research are also eligible; and Have a minimum of an upper second (or credit for non-classified first degrees).
