Introduction
This document describes the installation and setup procedures for EMC Celerra Network Server management applications. This document also describes how to access the command line interface (CLI) and Celerra Manager. This document does not give detailed descriptions of the applications, and it does not make recommendations on which application is best suited for your purposes. The topic, Learning about EMC Celerra, on the EMC Celerra Network Server Documentation CD provides information and recommendations about these products. This document is part of the Celerra Network Server documentation set and is intended for use by Celerra users who need to install or access the CLI, Celerra Manager, Celerra Monitor, or the Celerra CIFS management snap-ins for the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). The online help system for each application contains information about how to use each management application.
Before installing or upgrading

Before you install or upgrade Celerra software, ensure that all browser windows are closed, otherwise errors may occur.

Table 1 on page 4 describes the Celerra Network Server software, hardware, network, and storage configurations.

Restrictions
These restrictions and limitations apply:

Celerra Monitor is available only with the Advanced Edition of Celerra Manager. Do not use Netscape 8.0 or later with Celerra Manager. Netscape 7.1 is recommended. JRE version 1.6.0_11 must be used with Linux and Sun Solaris.
Terminology
The EMC Celerra Glossary provides a complete list of Celerra terminology.
Active Directory: Advanced directory service included with Windows operating systems. It stores information about objects on a network and makes this information available to users and network administrators through a protocol such as LDAP. browser: Program used to access information over the Internet or an intranet. Celerra Monitor: Java client/server application that lets an administrator observe the performance of a storage system attached to a Celerra Network Server and the performance of any Data Movers mounted in the Celerra Network Server cabinet. Celerra Network Server: EMC network-attached storage (NAS) product line. Certificate Authority (CA): Trusted third party that creates and digitally signs public
key certificates.
command line interface (CLI): Interface for entering commands through the Control Station to perform tasks that include the management and configuration of the database and Data Movers and the monitoring of statistics for the Celerra cabinet components. Control Station: Hardware and software component of the Celerra Network Server
that manages the system and provides the user interface to all Celerra components.
Data Mover: In a Celerra Network Server, a cabinet component running its own operating system that retrieves data from a storage device and makes it available to a network client. This is also referred to as a blade. A Data Mover is sometimes internally referred to as DART since DART is the software running on the platform. graphical user interface (GUI): Software that uses graphical objects such as pull-
down menus and operations such as drag-and-drop to allow the user to enter commands and execute functions.
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP): Communications protocol used to connect to
servers on the World Wide Web.

Microsoft Management Console (MMC): Extensible common presentation service for
management applications included in the Windows operating systems. See also MMC snap-in.
MMC snap-in: Management tool an administrator can add to the interface of a

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Security protocol that provides encryption and authentication. It encrypts data and provides message and server authentication. It also supports client authentication if required by the server.

Celerra support demos

Celerra Support Demos are available on Powerlink. Use these instructional videos to learn how to perform a variety of Celerra configuration and management tasks. After logging in to Powerlink, go to Support > Product and Diagnostic Tools > Celerra Tools > Celerra Support Demos.
Celerra wizards
Celerra wizards can be used to perform Celerra Manager tasks. Using Wizards to Configure Celerra provides you with an overview of the steps required to configure a Celerra Network Server using the Set Up Celerra wizard in Celerra Manager.
Concepts
The Celerra Network Server provides several management applications:

CLI Celerra Manager Celerra Monitor Celerra management snap-ins for the MMC
CLI
The Celerra Network Server provides full management functionality through the CLI. The commands are typed through the Control Station. The commands follow Linux-like syntax for familiarity and usability. The Celerra Network Server Command Reference Manual provides a full description of all CLI commands. Some management operations can be performed only through the CLI.
Celerra Manager
Celerra Manager is a web-based graphical user interface (GUI) that enables you to manage Celerra Network Servers without having to learn command syntax. You can select items such as file systems from lists, rather than having to remember and type their names. Celerra Manager also includes several wizards that guide you through the procedures for creating and setting up components of the server. For example, there are wizards for creating file systems and CIFS servers. Celerra Manager also provides access to the CLI. You can run Celerra Manager from any supported web browser. Table 1 on page 4 lists the supported web browsers. Celerra Manager is available in two editions:

Basic Edition Advanced Edition
The Basic Edition is preinstalled on all Celerra Network Servers. With this version, you can manage a single Celerra server in a browser session. You can also manage multiple Celerra servers by using separate browser windows. The Advanced Edition, which requires a separate license, enables you to manage multiple servers through a single browser session. The Advanced Edition also makes additional features available, such as Celerra Monitor. These features are dimmed and unavailable in the Basic Edition. Celerra Manager supports Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption and authentication to protect the connection between the users web browser and Celerras Apache web server. Digital certificates, whose authenticity is verified by a Certificate Authority (CA), are used by SSL to identify and authenticate the server and, if required, the client. In the case of Celerra Manager, the Control Station

serves as a limited purpose CA, signing the certificate provided by the Apache web server.
Managing multiple servers

With Celerra Manager Advanced Edition, you can log in to and manage several Celerra Network Servers within a single browser session. After you add a server to the session, its name also appears in the navigation pane, and can be expanded separately to show its components. You can log out from each server individually. The Celerra name remains in the navigation pane, but a question mark indicates that you are not logged in to the server.
Interoperating with the CLI

If you use the CLI and Celerra Manager concurrently, you should refresh the Celerra Manager display after making any related changes through the CLI. This ensures that the Celerra Manager display reflects the current state of the system. To refresh the Celerra Manager, click the Managers Refresh icon (not the web browsers Refresh icon). You can use the Celerra CLI to create items such as event notifications, with properties that prevent Celerra Manager from managing them. If you create such an item, you must manage it with the CLI. For example, Celerra Manager does not support event notifications that specify individual event identifiers. If you create such an event notification by using the CLI, you will be able to view, but not modify or delete it by using Celerra Manager. EMC Celerra Network Server Release Notes for your software version contain additional and more specific interoperability information.
Celerra Monitor
Celerra Monitor, which is available through the Advanced Edition of Celerra Manager, provides tools for monitoring activity on a Celerra Network Server and the attached storage devices. Most of the Celerra Monitor capabilities are also available in Celerra Manager. If the monitoring functions in Celerra Manager Advanced Edition meet your business requirements, you do not need to install Celerra Monitor. Celerra Monitor runs on Microsoft Windows or UNIX platforms. Its graphical user interface is Java-based, enabling it to run on various browsers. The Celerra Monitor online help contains detailed information.
Celerra CIFS management MMC snap-ins

The Celerra Network Server supports a set of Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-ins and programs for managing Celerra users and Data Mover security settings from a machine that is running a Windows Server. These tools for the CIFS environment enable you to manage users and Data Movers. The topic, Learning about EMC Celerra, on the EMC Celerra Network Server Documentation CD provides a brief description of the Celerra CIFS management applications. Table 2 on page 9 describes the Celerra CIFS MMC snap-ins.
The user management tools enable you to migrate UNIX attributes to the Windows Active Directory where you can then assign, remove, or modify UNIX attributes for Windows users or groups. The Data Mover management tools consist of several Microsoft Management Console snap-ins to the Celerra Management Console. You can use these snap-ins to manage virus checking, home directories, and security settings on Data Movers from a machine that is running a Windows Server. You can select to install any of the Celerra CIFS management applications during the installation process.

UNIX User Management
Description
Celerra UNIX User Management is installed as an MMC snap-in to the Celerra Management console. Use it to assign, remove, or modify UNIX attributes for a single Windows user or group on the local domain and on remote domains. You can also use it to manage domain access to the Active Directory located on the domain in which the attribute database is stored. Celerra AntiVirus Management is an MMC snap-in to the Celerra Management Console. You can use the Celerra AntiVirus Management snap-in with the Celerra AntiVirus Agent (CAVA), third-party AntiVirus engines that run on a Windows NT or Windows 2000 server or higher, and a Data Mover to view or modify the Celerra virus-checking parameters. The parameters are located in the viruschecker.conf file on each Celerra in the Windows domain. You can use this snap-in instead of editing the viruschecker.conf file on the Control Station. The Celerra AntiVirus Agent and third-party antivirus software must be installed on Windows Server 2003, Windows NT/2000, or higher. Using Celerra AntiVirus Agent provides detailed information.

Home Directory Management
Description
Celerra Home Directory Management is an MMC snap-in to the Celerra Management Console, which you can install on a Windows Server. Celerra Home Directory Management lets you associate a username with a directory that then acts as the users home directory. Celerra Home Directory Management simplifies the administration of personal shares and the process of connecting to them. The home directory is mapped in a user's profile so that upon login, the home directory is connected to a network drive. Celerra's home directory feature lets you use a single share name, called HOME, that all users connect to. You do not have to create individual shares for each user.
Security Management
Celerra Data Mover Security Settings consist of the Audit Policy node and the User Rights Assignment node. Audit Policy is a component of the Data Mover Security Settings snap-in, which is installed as an MMC snap-in into the Celerra Management Console on a Windows Server. You can use audit policies to determine which Data Mover security events are logged in the Security log. You can select to log successful attempts, failed attempts, both, or neither. Audited events are viewed in the Security log of the Windows Event Viewer. User Rights Assignment is a component of the Data Mover Security Settings snap-in, which is installed as an MMC snap-in into the Celerra Management Console on a Windows Server. You can use user rights assignments to manage which users and groups can log in to or execute tasks on a Data Mover. User rights assignments are local policies and apply only to the selected Data Mover.

Using the CLI

To use the CLI, you must establish a connection with the Control Station. After logging in, you can type CLI commands at the Control Station prompt. The commands that are available depend on the privileges assigned to your user account. The Celerra Network Server Command Reference Manual provides detailed information about all CLI commands. Celerra Security Configuration Guide provides information about the privileges that can be associated with user accounts. You can connect to the Control Station in several ways:

Local Log in to the Control Station directly. Remote Use a secure, encrypted, remote login application to connect to the Control Station IP address, and log in remotely. RS232 Use the modem or terminal server to connect to the COM2 port of the Control Station.

Installing JRE and Java Web Start for Celerra Manager

The JRE can be installed from files on the Celerra Applications and Tools CD. Use the procedure appropriate for the management computer platform.
Before installing JRE

Linux and Solaris also need the Netscape browser installed. If you are using Netscape, make sure that the memory and cache are set to zero before proceeding with the installation. If you are installing from an EMC Celerra NS600, ensure that the IP address and hostname of the NS600 have been set up properly.
Note: The installation program was tested on EMC Linux version 7.2 with Kernel version 2.4.77-10 and on Solaris SunOS version 5.8.

Step

Insert the Celerra Applications and Tools CD into a CD-ROM drive. On the Product Installation screen, select JRE1.6.0_11 (TM) for Celerra Manager/Monitor.

In the License Agreement screen, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next. In the Setup Type screen, select Typical, and then click Next. In the InstallShield Wizard Completed screen, click Finish. You are prompted to restart the computer: To restart the computer immediately, click Yes. To restart the computer at a later time, click No.

Install JRE on a Linux management computer

Step

From the /Monitor/linux directory on the CD, use the cp command to copy the following files to the directory where you want to install JRE: j2re-1_6_0_11-linux-i586.bin javaws-1_6_0_11-linux-i586-i.zip Go to that directory, and then set execute permission on the self-extracting binary by typing: chmod a+x j2re-1_6_0_11-linux-i586.bin

Agree to the license terms. Agree to install JRE in the current directory. From the /Monitor/linux directory on the CD, use the unzip command to extract javaws-1_2_0_01-linux-i586-i.zip to the directory where you want to install the Java Web Start application. Go to that directory, and then run the install.sh file that was extracted from the Zip file. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Go to the directory j2re1.6.0_11, which was created in the current directory. Copy the Zip file for the appropriate processor to the directory where you want to install Java Web Start: javaws-1_2_0_01-solaris-sparc-i.zip (for SPARC processors) javaws-1_2_0_01-solaris-i586-i.zip (for x86 processors) Use the unzip command to extract the contents of the Zip file. Run the install.sh file that was extracted from the Zip file.

Configure Java Web Start for a proxy server

When using a proxy server, you must configure the proxy settings in Java Web Start for Celerra Monitor to launch correctly. Use this procedure to type the proxy settings into Java Web Start.

Open the browser and type the proxy information. The online help on the browser contains more information.

Start the Java Web Start application. Select File > Preferences. On the General tab, select Use Browser. The field is filled in with the proxy information from the browser. Note: To manually configure proxy settings in Java Web Start, select Manual on the General tab, and then type the proxy information.

Installing digital certificates for Celerra Manager

Starting with 5.6, the Celerra software automatically generates the Certificate Authority (CA) certificate and a new Apache certificate signed by that CA certificate at system installation or software upgrade if these certificates do not exist.

Regenerate the CA and Apache certificates

If you change the Celerra hostname, you have to regenerate the Control Stations CA and Apache certificates. When you generate a new CA certificate, a matching Apache certificate is also generated. After you regenerate the certificates, any browsers or systems that use the previous certificates need to install the new certificates. Use this procedure to regenerate the CA and Apache certificates.

Log in to the Control Station CLI with your username and password. You must have root privileges to execute the required commands. To generate updated CA and Apache keys and certificates, type: /nas/sbin/nas_ca_certificate -generate

Import the Control Station CA certificate into your web browser for the certificate verification to succeed. After importing, you no longer receive any security warnings when opening a new browser session to Celerra Manager. In addition, when you start Celerra Manager after performing this setup, you must install the new Apache certificate. Starting a Celerra Manager session

Use this procedure to begin a Celerra Manager session by connecting to a Celerra Network Server.
Before starting a Celerra Manager session

Ensure that the JRE is installed on the management computer, and that you are using a supported browser. Be sure the browser is configured to accept first-party and third-party cookies, and that any password management feature is disabled.
Start a Celerra Manager session

Use this procedure to start a Celerra Manager session to manage a Celerra Network Server.

Enable a license
Some Celerra licensed features and products can be managed with Celerra Manager only after you purchase a license for them and enable them in Celerra Manager. "Enable a licensed feature" on page 27 provides more details.

Add a server
With Celerra Manager Basic Edition, you can log in to only one Celerra Network Server within a single browser session. With Celerra Manager Advanced Edition, you can log in to and manage several Celerra Network Servers within a single browser session. After you add a server to the session, its name also appears in the navigation pane, and can be expanded separately to show its components.
Before adding a server

Configure the web browser to accept first-party and third-party cookies. Cookies allow Celerra Manager to use an SSL encrypted connection between the client computer and the Control Station. The cookie also stores a unique session identifier after you log in, and is valid only for the current session. Be sure to disable any password management feature in the browser. The online help on the browser contains information on how to configure the browser.

Start a Celerra Manager session as described in "Starting a Celerra Manager session" on page 20. In the navigation pane, right-click the Celerras folder, and select Add Celerra. Log out
To end a Celerra Manager session, you should log out from each server before closing the browser window. Logging out prevents others from using the session to access the Celerra Network Servers.

To log out from a single Celerra, right-click the server in the navigation pane, and then select Logout. The icon for the server changes to a question mark. To log out from all Celerras, right-click the Celerras folder, and then select Logout All. The browser page changes to the login page for the first server to which you connected.

Logging out when using Netscape

If you are using Netscape, simply closing a browser window when you are finished might not clear authentication information in Netscape's cache of nonpersistent cookies. If any other browser windows are open, the nonpersistent cache is not cleared. Directing a subsequent window or a previously existing window back to the Control Station will not require reauthentication. This is because you did not terminate your session on the Control Station and Netscape has retained your authentication token. To ensure that your Web UI session with the Control Station is terminated, click the Logout icon to explicitly log out of Celerra Manager.

Installing and upgrading Celerra Replicator (V2)

EMC Celerra Replicator (V2) is a feature in Celerra version 5.6, and can be enabled for new installations or upgrades.
Install with configured replications

If you have other Celerra Network Servers that have configured replications for file systems or VDMs, or iSCSI, and you plan to use the new Celerra as a source or target for replications, you must enable the Celerra Replicator (V1) license on the new system. "Enabling Celerra Replicator (V1)" on page 25 provides more details.
Note: If you want to upgrade to Celerra Replicator (V2) and upgrade the management of configured replications to Celerra Replicator (V2), contact your EMC Customer Support Representative for assistance.
Install with no configured replications

If you have other Celerra Network Servers that do not have any configured replications for file systems or VDMs, or iSCSI, you can enable the Celerra Replicator (V2) license by selecting Celerra ReplicatorV2 Licensed on the Celerra Home: Licenses tab. "Enable a licensed feature" on page 27 provides more details.
Note: After you enable the Celerra Replicator (V2) license, you cannot disable this license and enable Celerra Replicator (V1).
Upgrade with configured replications or Celerra Replicator (V1) enabled

During an upgrade to Celerra version 5.6, if any configured replications for file systems or VDMs, or iSCSI are found, or if Celerra Replicator (V1) is enabled, Celerra remains configured for Celerra Replicator (V1). If you have only iSCSI replications, you can enable Celerra Replicator (V2) as described in "Enabling Celerra Replicator (V2)" on page 26.
Note: If you want to upgrade to Celerra Replicator (V2) and upgrade the management of configured replications to Celerra Replicator (V2), contact your EMC Customer Support Representative for assistance.

Installing Celerra Monitor

Celerra Monitor is available through the Advanced Edition of Celerra Manager.
Before installing Celerra Monitor

Ensure that JRE and Java Web Start are properly installed on the management computer. Although all versions of Netscape browser and Microsoft Internet Explorer support the JRE and Java Web Start, Netscape 6.0 and later versions are unable to detect whether Java Web Start is installed. The Advanced Edition of Celerra Manager must be enabled.
Install Celerra Monitor

In a browser, open Celerra Manager Advanced Edition. In the navigation pane, select Tools. On the Tools page, click Celerra Monitor. If you receive a message to download a file, do the following: a. If you are prompted to overwrite a file, click Yes to proceed with the installation.

Installing Celerra CIFS management MMC snap-ins

Use the following procedure to install MMC snap-ins and tools for managing a CIFS environment.

Prerequisites
If you have not installed the Celerra UNIX User management snap-in, the cifs useADMap parameter must be set to 0 (the default). This is also true if you do not plan on using the Celerra UNIX User management snap-in, or if you are using another user authentication tool.

Access problems can occur if you set the useADMap parameter to 1, but you have not extended the Active Directory schema. The Microsoft website contains more information.

Celerra troubleshooting
After an installation or an upgrade to the system software, opening a page in Celerra Manager sometimes takes longer than it will on subsequent visits. When running Celerra Manager on Java 1.6 up to update 7, you may encounter browser hangs due to a known issue in the Sun JRE. If your browser hangs, the browser window might stop responding and have to be closed. To avoid browser hangs EMC strongly recommends the use of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.6.0_11 on client machines that will run Celerra Manager. Outdated (stale) information in the browser cache can sometimes cause unexpected behavior, such as the appearance of extra confirmation screens. Try clearing the browsers cache and closing the browser. When using Celerra Manager with Netscape, be sure to configure the browser so that it does not remember passwords. Otherwise, the browser might supply default passwords into password fields, which could be saved unintentionally. When starting Celerra Manager through a web browser, be sure to install certificates when prompted to do so. In some cases, the prompt might appear in a pop-up window that is hidden by other windows. If the browser is not responding, try pressing Alt+Tab to cycle through windows on the display and bring hidden pop-ups to the front. When adding another Celerra Network Server to the Celerra Manager display, specify the new Celerra by its fully qualified domain name, not its IP address. Otherwise an error message about cookies might appear. In addition, the IP address of the Celerra should be added to the list of trusted sites. If you receive the blocked cookie message, double-click the blocked cookie icon and indicate in the dialog box that cookies should be accepted from that site in the future. When managing multiple Celerra servers through Celerra Manager and Internet Explorer 6, you should select View Certificate if the browser displays a security alert about a certificate. If you decide to install the certificate and it has valid credentials from one of the Celerra servers you are managing, select Install Certificate.

When managing multiple Celerra servers through Celerra Manager and Internet Explorer 6, the browser might incorrectly block cookies, causing the display of the Login screen after successful authentication. If this problem occurs, view the privacy report for the blocked Celerra, and find the entry for the cookie called "Ticket" from the Login screen. Set the browser to always accept cookies from that site and then log in again. A Celerra Manager operation can involve several internal steps and require internal communication of statuses over a network. Therefore, you may not see data on a page updated immediately. If you do not see data updated on a page as you would expect, try these corrective steps: 1. In the same browser session, select and open another Celerra Manager page, and then select and re-open the page on which you want to see updated data. The updated data should appear as you expect. If not, go to step 2. 2. Wait 15 to 30 seconds, and then click the Celerra Manager Refresh button once to update the page. This update may take significant time, because it refreshes all data on the page. Avoid clicking Refresh several times, because each click sends another complete update request. If this does not work, go to step 3. 3. Check the Task Status page to see if the operation status is recorded there. The progress of long-running operations and operations on multiple objects (such as deletions of many file systems) are recorded on the Task Status page. If you do not see the operation listed on this page, go to step 4. 4. There might be problems preventing the operation from running. Click the Celerra Network Server name in the navigation pane to open the Celerra Home: Status page, and check the hardware statuses and software alerts on the page for issues that could be preventing the operation from running.
Firefox Password Manager (PM) is enabled by default. This feature records and stores the password that you enter on a website and then automatically fills in the password entry field on your next and subsequent visit. The password field masks the password with asterisks (*). To prevent Firefox from remembering passwords: 1. Click Tools > Options and click the Security tab. 2. Under Passwords, clear the Remember password for sites checkbox.
