CDBG LMI Blocks

51 percent of project beneficiaries must be LMI. Please note LMI Block Group Map Wooster CDBG LMI area rests within Ward 1 and Ward 2. Citywide, 41 percent of Wooster residents are considered LMI.

Project #1: Viola Startzman Free Clinic

In 2012, Viola Startzman Free Clinic provided:

Care for 2,303 low-income patients (10,674 visits) 19,045 medications 1,320 dental visits Operated with 350 volunteers and 15 staff members.

Funding in 2012: $13,300 Proposed Funding in 2013: $13,300

Project #2: Fair Housing Services

2012 CDBG-Funded Fair Housing Services supported:

Wooster Fair Housing Hotline: 1.800.850.0467 (36 Calls in 2012) Educational training on fair housing (Four Classes) and Outreach CDBG requires communities to have Fair Housing Services 2012 services contracted to Donald B. Eager & Associates Inc.

Project #3: Sidewalk Spot Replacement

Safe sidewalks are critical in any neighborhood. LMI households are more likely to rely on sidewalks as a primary mode of transportation. Project Objective: Spot-Repair sidewalks to provide LMI neighborhoods with more accessible connections to Downtown amenities and recreation. Proposed 2013 Funding: $58,200

Sidewalk Spot Replacement Service Area About

Project intends to replace damaged sidewalk slabs in residential LMI areas.

Sections that are broken or uplifted by one inch (1) impede access and are a tripping hazarrd.

Connection to Beall Avenue to access Downtown

Sport Replacement for portions of Nold Avenue, High Street, Larwill Street, and North Street.

Connection to Downtown and Schellin Park

Spot Replacement for portions South Street, Pittsburgh Avenue, Henry Street, Hancock Street, Maple Street, Prospect Street, and Spink Street.
