Functional Structure
Logically, the HLR9820 consists of two NEs, namely, the FE (service node) and the BE (data node).
The FE receives signaling messages and implements service processing. It consists of the signaling processing subsystem and O&M subsystem. The BE implements subscriber data storage, access, and management functions. It consists of the subscriber data management subsystem, data service subsystem, data storage subsystem, and O&M subsystem. Physically, the FE and the BE can be deployed in integrated mode or separated mode.

In the networking of the SingleSDB, the BE is shared by HLR

and other NEs, this course mainly introduce the HLR FE part.

Hardware Structure
OSTA 2.0 subrack provides 3 buses: IPMB, BASE Bus, FABRIC Bus

The intelligent platform management bus (IPMB) is the monitoring and device management bus of the OSTA 2.0 subrack. It connects all the devices in the OSTA 2.0 subrack. The Base bus is the management and control bus of the OSTA 2.0 subrack. It provides a channel for software loading, alarm reporting, and maintenance message delivery. The Fabric bus provides a data channel for the system service plane. It transmits the service information of the system.

Functions of the GU HLR FE

When the FEU serves as the HLR, it provides the following functions: Processes and forwards signaling messages.
Processes and forwards MTP2 and MTP3 messages of the SS7 signaling if TDM networking is adopted. Processes and forwards SCTP and M3UA messages if IP networking is adopted.

Processes SCCP, TCAP, and MAP messages, and interacts with the data service subsystem to query or update subscriber data.

DPU Module
The DPU provides the following functions: Provides service ports for other NEs and implements port aggregation. Forwards the received IP packets to a proper BSG or DSG for processing based on the quintuplet (source IP address, source port number, destination IP address, destination port number, and protocol number) contained in the received packets. Receives IP data packets from the BSG or DSG and sends them to the peer NEs. There are signaling plane DPUs and data plane DPUs. The signaling plane DPUs are responsible for signaling access, and the data plane DPUs are responsible for communication with the data service subsystem.

DSG
The DSG provides the following functions: Receives the data access requests from the CCU and forwards the requests to the data service subsystem for processing. Receives the data access responses from the data service subsystem and forwards the responses to the CCU.

11

BSG
The BSG provides the following functions: On receiving TDM signaling, the BSG processes SS7 messages to the MTP2 layer and MTP3 layer and forwards the processed messages to the CCU. On receiving IP signaling, the BSG processes IP messages to the SCTP layer and M3UA layer and forwards the processed messages to the CCU.

Page22

CCU
The CCU receives the signaling messages sent from the BSG and implements the protocol processing at the MAP layer.

The CCU provides the following functions:

Processes the MAP messages, such as the location update request and Send Routing Info (SRI) request, sent from the BSG. Processes the MAP message for inserting the subscriber data initiated by the PGW during the operations such as subscriber data update and simulated sending of the Cancel Location message. Interacts with the DRU to obtain the required subscriber data from the DSU or to update the subscriber data stored in the DSU. Integrated with the functions of the AuC, the CCU implements the authentication-related operations. The functions of the CCU module are implemented by the GUFEU board. The GUFEU boards work in load-sharing mode.

Interfaces Provided by the Signaling Processing Subsystem

Interface Signaling interface Function Through the interface, the signaling processing subsystem communicates with external NEs, such as the MSC and the STP. The DPU is used for receiving broadband signaling. The BSG is used for receiving narrowband signaling. Data access interface Subscription notification interface O&M interface Through the interface, the FE communicates with the DRU to query or modify the data in the data service subsystem. Through the interface, the FE communicates with the PGW. The FE subscribes to notification messages from the PGW. After modifying the subscriber data, the PGW sends a notification message to the FEs. Each module communicates with the OMU through the NMS agent. The O&M interface is used for maintaining modules and reporting the module status and alarms.
