EPA Tier 3, EU Stage III Compliant Cat C11 Engine
The 6-cylinder Cat C11 is an electronically governed engine. The C11 utilizes ACERT Technology which combines proven systems with innovative new technologies to precisely deliver fuel to the combustion chamber. It maintains engine performance, efficiency and durability while dramatically reducing emissions.

Powershift Transmission
The planetary powershift transmission features heavy-duty components to handle the toughest applications. Control throttle shifting and electronic clutch pressure control enhance productivity and durability.

Axles
Axles are designed by Caterpillar for durability in all operating conditions. The front axle is rigidly mounted to the frame to support the weight of the wheel loader and withstand internal torque loads, as well as external forces encountered throughout operation.

Structures
The Cat exclusive Integrated Braking System reduces axle oil temperatures extending brake and axle life. This is especially valuable in applications requiring long haul distances. The articulated frame design features a durable box-section engine frame and rigid four-plate loader tower. Frames are robotically welded for excellent weld penetration, resulting in durable component joint fusion.

Linkage
The Z-bar linkage generates excellent breakout force and good rack back angles for better bucket loading and load retention. Lift arms are fabricated steel plates connected by a cast cross member, providing superior strength while maintaining excellent forward visibility. Bucket tilt movement through a cast tilt lever and forged tilt link provide strength and excellent visibility.

Load-Sensing Hydraulics
The load-sensing hydraulic system automatically adjusts to operating conditions, providing only the hydraulic flow required by the implements for improved fuel efficiency and greater rimpull. Hydraulic functions can be used simultaneously for improved productivity. Lift force has also been increased for improved performance.

Electro-hydraulic Implement Controls


Electro-hydraulic implement controls provide ultra-low fingertip controls to the operator with in-cab programmable kickouts improving productivity. The implement control console features an optional Forward/Neutral/Reverse switch allowing fast, easy directional changes to reduce cycle times.

On-Demand Fan and Constant Net Power


Sensors monitoring cooling needs control the on-demand fan speed to maintain optimal temperatures, resulting in improved fuel efficiency, lower sound levels and reduced cooling core plugging. The Cat C11 engine is electronically controlled to provide constant net power for all parasitic loads, enhancing productivity and improving fuel efficiency.

Ride Control
The Ride Control system allows operators to travel at higher speeds, over rough terrain while retaining the load. The benefit is decreased cycle times and increased productivity. Ride Control is optional in some regions.

The spacious cab offers many ergonomic features.

Seat
The standard air suspension seat, is six-way adjustable and features automotive-style lumbar support for maximum comfort. Implement controls are integrated with the right-hand armrest and adjust for comfortable and convenient operation. An optional heated seat is available for additional comfort.

Visibility
Large center glass panel and wet-arm wiper provide great visibility for all conditions. Downward sloping hood and rear wet-arm wiper provide excellent visibility to the rear of the machine. Optional rearview camera with color monitor is available to help see behind the machine. Optional lighting packages are available to meet various applications.

Steering Systems
Standard steering wheel is low-effort with approximately two and a half turn lock-to-lock. Optional Command Control Steering provides full machine articulation with 70 of wheel turn. It also provides transmission forward/neutral/reverse and upshift/downshift switches on the steering grip.

Vibration
Articulation neutralizer valves reduce frame-to-frame contact. Automatic upper and lower lift kick-outs and cylinder dampening reduce jerking and bouncing. Optional Ride Control reduces machine pitching and provides a smoother ride over rough terrain.

Engine Compartment Access
The mechanical tilting hood provides excellent access to the engine and cooling compartments. Quick checks of the engine oil level, coolant sight gauge and air inlet indicator can be completed through the side service door with the hood closed.

Hydraulic Service Center


Transmission oil and hydraulic filters are conveniently located in the Hydraulic Service Center, behind the hinged, right-side access ladder.

Fuel Efficiency
Data from thousands of customer machines show Cat Wheel Loaders are among the most fuel efficient machines in the industry. Several features contribute to this excellent fuel efficiency: Load-Sensing Hydraulics Adjusts to operating conditions providing only the hydraulic flow required by the implements for improved fuel efficiency and greater rimpull. ACERT Technology Manages air, fuel and injection to deliver only the amount of fuel needed. Engine Idle Management System Reduces the engine speed when idling, saving on fuel consumption. Free Wheel Stator Torque Converter Improves power train efficiencies in load and carry operations. Variable Shift Control Allows operator to select optimum shift patterns based upon the application.

Operator technique and machine configuration can dramatically impact fuel consumption. Here are some potential fuel saving tips: Get Trained Operator technique can impact fuel consumption by as much as 30 percent, therefore training is vital. Get the Right Machine Equip the machine with proper tires and work tools. Radial tires are preferred. Heavier tires require more fuel. Use lowest rpm required for the job. Use automatic transmission 2-4 mode when possible. Adjust variable shift control for the application. Get in Position Spot loading targets in the right position. Avoid traveling more than twice the machine length. Avoid lift lever detent and use transmission neutralizer. Get Loaded Load in first gear and keep engine below 1,600 rpm. Raise and tilt smoothly and dont pump the bucket. Get Moving Use brakes when changing directions, not full throttle FNR. Get Unloaded Dont raise the work tool any higher than necessary. Keep engine rpm low and unload in controlled manner. Idle Down Set the parking brake to engage Engine Idle Management System.

Cat cab with integrated Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) are standard in North America and Europe. ROPS meets SAE J1040 APR88 and ISO 3471:1994 criteria. Falling Objects Protective Structure (FOPS) meets SAE J231 JAN81 and ISO 3449:1992 Level II criteria. The operator sound pressure level measured according to the procedures specified in ISO 6994:1998 is 71 dB(A) for the cab offered by Caterpillar, when properly installed and maintained and tested with the doors and windows closed. Hearing protection may be needed when operating with an open operator station and cab (when not properly maintained or doors/windows open) for extended periods or in noisy environments. The sound power level is 111 dB(A) measured according to the dynamic test procedure and conditions specified in ISO 6495:1998 for a standard machine configuration.
