SOLAR PHOTO VOLTAIC, THE ENERGY OF THE FUTURE

Photovoltaic installations have been increasing by an average of more than 20 percent each year since 2002, making it one of the worlds fastest-growing energy technologies.Driven by advances in technology and increases in manufacturing scale and sophistication, the cost of photovoltaics has declined steadily and is now in par with fossil electricity in many regions. In July 2009, India unveiled a plan, to produce 20 GW of solar power by 2020. Under the plan, solar-powered equipment and applications would be mandatory in all government buildings including hospitals and hotels. According to information of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, during the last three years 185 grid connected solar power plants of 1172 MW aggregate capacity were allotted under different schemes. Of these, 132 power plants of about 369 MW aggregate capacity have been commissioned up to 31.01.2013.In case of the commissioned solar PV plants 65 plants./130 MW are using indigenous solar cells . India is expected to adopt a policy of developing solar power as a dominant component of the renewable energy mix since the subcontinent has the ideal combination of both high solar insolation and large consumer base. Some even think that India can make renewable resources the backbone of its economy by 2050 without compromising growth. The country needs 100,000- trained hands in solar energy in the next 10 years. Employment potential is huge in this area.

ONE WEEK NATIONAL TRAINING IN SOLAR PHOTO VOLTAICS- THEORY & PRACTICALS AT RENEWABLE ENERGY CENTRE,MITHRADHAM. 08-12th , July 2013. Foreseeing the need for the widespread use of renewable energy for a sustainable future for India, CMI indigenous congregation, the pioneers in quality and future oriented education took the first steps for starting a demonstration, education and training centre in environment and renewable energy as early as 1990. The required institutional structure became a reality in 2000 by the inauguration of the millennium project, Renewable Energy Centre, Mithradham at Chunagamveli near Aluva, 26 kms from Kochi international Air Port in the state of Kerala. Mithradham is the first fully solar educational institution in India dedicated to the promotion of environment and renewable energy, especially solar energy. It has been offering national and international training programmes in renewable energy for the last thirteen years. In addition to the yearly training activities, the centre offers facility for study tours, internship training, seminars, workshops and business promotion interactions for various groups. The five days intensive training programme mentioned above is tailored to all who have a basic knowledge of electricity and intend to make use of it, especially engineers and entrepreneurs. A certificate will be issued at the end of the training programme. The participants will get opportunity to study the theory and practical aspects of solar PV from actual system designers, installers, industrialists, entrepreneurs and educational experts.
