We have been delighted to welcome our overseas children this week from Spain, France and Russia.

It is very brave of them to travel to the UK to, largely, an unknown school and stay with us but they are settling in well and we wish them well for the next six weeks. If anyone would like to host one of our visitors for a night at the weekends, do please contact Mrs Dengel.

Guest Storyteller Assembly

This week we had none other than Michael Ball, singer, actor, performer in the West End, reading a story to us in our assembly. He arrived through the ether and was transmitted onto our wide screen in the Hall, but there he most definitely was! He told us a great story from one of the 500 Word Story Competition winners a story by Harry McMurray called Making Mum and Dad and what a great story it was! This story was the Silver winner in the 10 13 year category. What an accomplished piece of writing which had the children in all year groups laughing. I highly recommend that you look at the website for the Radio 2 500 Word Competition where all 50 shortlisted stories for this year (as well as those for previous years) are available. These are fabulous stories written by children for children. Do take a look and be amazed and inspired! Ms Case

Lovereading4kids Severnside Swim Gala on 13th June 2-4 pm This month we have been lucky enough to
Please be aware that there is only 1 swimmer per race and four schools are taking part. Some swimmers may be disappointed not to be taking part, however, congratulations go to selected swimmers as their times have merited their own selection. The list is in the lobby and all swimmers will be notified of their race by Year 8 captains. Please note that 1 or 2 swimmers are in relays only. Any questions please contact Mrs Hinchliffe direct by email: bhinchliffe@tockingtonmanorschool.com The final points have been calculated from all competitions during this year. The leader board stands as follows after stamina, competition, personal bests and diving (Points have been omitted to add mystery and surprise for the swim finals on July 10th): take part in reviewing a new book which you can't as yet find in the bookshops. The book is called Time Hunters by Chris Blake and we were sent three pre-publication copies after we volunteered to take part in writing reviews for this great website. The two lucky reviewers, who thoroughly enjoyed the book, were Alex Jacobi and Angus Duncan. Both boys received one copy of the book each and took it home to read during the holidays. They each wrote a review which will be posted on the website this month before the book arrives in the shops in July. We hope to become regular reviewers for books for children and wholeheartedly recommend that you take a look at this most informative website. You can access the reviews through Lovereading4kids.co.uk. I hope that many more of our children will take up the challenge to write reviews and get their names in print. If you are interested, then please let me know. And a special well done to Alex and Angus for their enthusiasm and interest in this project!
