VOLGELPERSPEKTIVE JAZZ CONCERT One of the most productive forces on the Austrian jazz scene, drummer Alfred Vogel brings his multi-dimensional project Vogelperspektive (a birds eye view of the state of improvisation) to the US with two very different trios: Intensivstation and Hang em High with Swiss musicians Wolfgang Zwiauer and Lucien Dubuis. Using elements of jazz, blues, rock, noise, and even country music, these trios, composed of some of the most dynamic improvisers in Europe, explore and explode our notions of improvisation in the 21st century. LE CORBUSIER EXHIBITION OPENING MoMA presents its first major exhibition on the work of Le Corbusier, encompassing his work as an architect, interior designer, artist, city planner, writer, and photographer. Conceived by guest curator Jean-Louis Cohen, the exhibition reveals the ways in which Le Corbusier observed and imagined landscapes throughout his career. Le Corbusier: An Atlas of Modern Landscapes is the largest exhibition ever produced in New York of his prodigious oeuvre. On view through September 23, 2013. DIETER ROTH EXHIBITION The exhibition Wait, Later This Will Be Nothing: Editions by Dieter Roth focuses on Roths incredibly innovative and prolific period from 1960 to 1975. The centerpiece of the exhibition is an expanded presentation of Snow (1963 69), a Roth artists book in MoMAs collection, featuring many more pages of the book than have ever been exhibited. RETO PULFER EXHIBITION The enigmatic body of work by Swiss artist Reto Pulfer (b. 1981, lives in Berlin) might be said to occur at the intersection of architecture and performance. In his first solo-exhibition in the United States entitled Zustandseffekte, Pulfer suspends large swathes of hand-painted cloth from the ceiling structure, countering the architecture of Swiss Institutes main gallery while exploring an ethereal environment. UGO RONDINONE: SOUL EXHIBITION Gladstone Gallery is pleased to present soul, an exhibition of new sculptures by Ugo Rondinone. Rondinone has long embraced a fluidity of forms and media. Taken as a whole, his work represents a complex network of responses to social and physical structures. By allowing himself the freedom to work within a wide variety of disciplines and media, Rondinone creates the conditions necessary to explore a broad emotional range. UGO RONDINONE PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION For seven weeks this spring, nine 16-to 20foot-tall, human-shaped stone figures by Swiss-born, New York-based artist Ugo Rondinone, will transform Rockefeller Center, inhabiting the plaza between 49th and 50th Streets as if transported from another time. DO IT (OUTSIDE) EXHIBITION In collaboration with Independent Curators International (ICI), Socrates Sculpture Park presents do it (outside), an exhibition conceived of and curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist. In the last 20 years, versions of do it have been presented in over 50 venues worldwide, giving new meaning to the concept of the Exhibition in Progress. Do it (outside) at Socrates Sculpture Park will be the first presentation of the exhibition in New York City and the first to be presented completely outdoors in a public art venue. JOEL TETTAMANTI EXHIBITION Jol Tettamanti's photographs are a vast archive of the structures, villages and cities that people create and inhabit, and the landforms and climates that shape their culture. Although his photographs are often devoid of people, the focus of his work is the human presence in the landscape and the people who are uplifted and sometimes defeated by the land they inhabit. This contradiction of human frailty and resilience, and the continuities people form with the land, are embedded in Tettamanti's photographic vision. A DIFFERENT KIND OF ORDER ICP TRIENNIAL Every three years, ICP's curators round up some of the most interesting contemporary photography and video works from around the world. The 2013 Triennial, A Different Kind of Order, focuses on artworks created in our current moment of widespread economic, social, and political instability. The exhibition includes 28 international artists who employ photography, film, video, and interactive media. Among the 28 is Swiss artist Thomas Hirschhorn. Monday, July 1 THOMAS HIRSCHHORN GRAMSCI MONUMENT OPENING Gramsci Monument is the fourth and final work in Thomas Hirschhorns series of monuments dedicated to major writers and thinkers. Gramsci Monument will be located on the grounds of a housing development and take the form of a temporary pavilion with a theater stage, a library of Antonio Gramscis books, a public lounge, an internet corner, a workshop area with carpentry tools, and a food kiosk. Daily and weekly programs will include: lectures by scholars on Antonio Gramsci, poetry readings and workshops, open microphone event, art workshops led by Thomas Hirschhorn, field trips organized by the ambassador, and a play, titled Gramsci Theater.
