Hurons current Poet Laureate, Ron Ruble, recently released his second book. The book, entitled Words Walk, is a collection of primarily poetry but also features short stories and personal anecdotes on a variety of topics that were written throughout Rubles life. This book, which Ruble declared explores the emotional, the happy, the offbeat, the sad, and the whimsical , is deeply personal. The collection of pieces contained within the book all came from me; my perspective and point of view stated Ruble. The books somewhat odd title might have you wondering; yet, for Ruble the title is perfectly logical. Ruble explained that The books title comes from a line in a poem I wrote which is also in the book. The line is: Words walk. They take us by the hand and escort us to places where our minds and imaginations thrive. Ruble, whose enthusiasm for words and the art of writing is contagious, further explained that Words have the ability to take us places, depending on their context, most words have multiple usages. For example, take the word strike which can be used to indicate a swing at a ball and miss, or to knock all the pins down on the first ball in bowling, or to stop work, or to delete something from the record, or a fish hitting on the bait, or a discovery of gold or oil, or an air attack, etc. The word strike is not static. It moves, takes us with it, according to its context or usage. Add an adjective to the word strike and you journey even further. Yet, despite their multiple usages, Words have the capacity to knot our guts, massage our hearts, bring us to laughter, and exercise our minds on such issues as love, fear, childhood, adulthood, nature, faith, language, parenting, and life. Ruble added. If you are interested in hearing Ruble read from his latest book, you will have two opportunities in the coming weeks. On Tuesday, June 11, Ruble will be reading selections from his book at the Huron Public Library begin-

ning at 7:00 PM. On Sunday, June 23, Ruble will be reading at First Presbyterian Church at 3:00 PM. Both readings are open to the public, and you will have opportunity to purchase a signed copy of Words Walk at each reading. If you cannot attend a reading, Words Walk is available on Amazon.com or can be purchased at Bottom Dog Press, Inc. at http://smithdocs.net/bird_dog_books.

Edcamp Comes to Huron

Huron City Schools will be hosting edcamp Huron on Friday, August 2nd, 2013 at Woodlands Intermediate School. Edcamps are worldwide ventures that have taken place over the past three years. The inaugural event took place in May 2010; since, the edcamp movement has spread across the world with over 100 edcamps being held. Informal in nature, they are free conferences for teachers, administrators and people generally interested in education as a means to exchange ideas and learn together. The vision of the edcamp program is to promote organic, participantdriven professional development for K-12 educators worldwide. It is anticipated attendees will come from all over the North Coast and will range from classroom teachers to administrators to coaches and school board members. There will be time for attendees to gather informally to share ideas as well as a variety of sessions for them to attend, run by their colleagues and fellow educators, stated Mr. TJ Houston, Technology Director of Huron City Schools and co-organizer of the Huron event. All attendees will be encouraged to sign up to run sessions the morning of the conference. Edcamp Huron will be corporate vendor and booth free allowing for the focus to solely be on conversations regarding education. As with all edcamps, edcamp Huron is completely free, with all refreshments and other amenities provided solely through sponsorship. With the possibility of up to 150 attendees, organizers are looking for local businesses who may be interested in being featured in the conference literature. Those interested in sponsorship opportunities may make donations or contact the organizers on the website (http://edcamphuron.org/sponsors/). For additional information about this event, contact TJ Houston (edcamphuron@gmail.com) or visit http://www.edcamphuron. org.
