JENKINTOWN DAY NURSERY Job Title: Head Teacher Minimum Acceptable Qualifications College Degree Additional Desirable Qualifications

s Degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education Teaching Certificate Required Physical Characteristics Ability to lift children throughout the course of an eight hour day must be capable of easily lifting 40 pounds. Ability to walk, bend, stand and sit throughout an 8 hour day. Work endurance to maintain continuous activity with children up to 4 hours at a time. Visual acuity of at least 20/40 (with corrected lenses if needed) to supervise children individually and in groups; maintain accurate records; read curriculum materials; read stories to children; verify identification of escorts. Ability to speak and understand spoken English sufficiently to give directions and communicate with children and adults. Ability to print or write English legibly and accurately. Ability to operate classroom equipment (i.e. computer, CD, DVD). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Greet each child and parent when they arrive and leave each day and visually inspect each child. Draft daily lesson plans and execute educational curriculum in classroom. Plan and execute curriculum for outdoor activities. Identify and respond in a timely manner to children in distress (i.e. child crying in playground). Monitor the welfare, health and safety of children in the group (indoors and outdoors),

including classroom organization. Plan and implement childrens mealtime activities. Provide bathroom supervision for children. Orient children to classroom rules and routines. Use appropriate positive discipline and train new team members so that discipline is consistent. Interact with children frequently, affectionately and encourage their involvement in activities. Develop a trusting relationship with children. Observe, record and report to executive director significant individual and group behavior. Establish and maintain thorough communication with parents through parent conferences and more regularly on a daily, informal basis. Maintain daily attendance reports, meal forms, medication forms and logs, injury reports, etc. Supervise assistant teachers, volunteers and students. Maintain progress reports on the emotional, physical and intellectual development of children. Conduct parent conferences (at least twice a year). Maintain the bounds of professional confidentiality. Prepare for staffings, and supervisory meetings and implement plans as developed. Attend staff meetings, in-service training sessions and supervisory conferences as required by JDN and DPW. Work with social worker, director, parents and co-workers in making decisions and problemsolving concerning family treatment plans, curriculum planning, development of groups, etc. Help plan, and participate in weekday, evening and weekend meetings with parents. Develop a working knowledge of JDN and community resources and work within the structure to carry out its function. Develop a working knowledge of resources (i.e. curriculum, audio/visual, library, etc.) Non Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain and request supplies in a timely manner. Plan appropriately for trips (i.e. preparation and follow through). Maintain daily appearance of classroom and center. Participate in periodic self-evaluations with director. Continue professional growth by reading books and periodicals and attending professional meetings. Share pertinent information with director, co-workers and social worker as needed. Dress in an appropriate manner for day care. Perform other duties as needed.
