Three Fury Team, as I reflect on the past two months since our last newsletter, I am humbled by the hard work, professionalism and dedication of our Cav Troopers and Families. Thank you for what you do every day! April and May marked the beginning of our intensive training cycle and culminated with All American Week and the remembrance of our fallen heroes on Memorial Day. The intensive training cycle proved quite rewarding and the Troops made great strides in reconnaissance, maneuver, indirect fires, logistics, as well as our command systems and communications. For the first time since deployment we exercised all war fighting functions across the squadron and for the first time in several years we worked on our core reconnaissance and gunnery tasks. You should be proud of your accomplishments as you reflect on the numerous nights training in the field, various marksmanship ranges, section and platoon night live fires, air assault missions and multi-day situational training exercises. We all learned a great deal and the squadron is more ready and postured to take it to the next level during training in June and the 4th quarter. Also in April and May our great Troopers, family members and volun- 3 FURY6: LTC Purdy Mark teers continued to build the team with numerous new volunteers in the family readiness groups conducting family and social functions that strengthened the Fury Cav Family. THANK YOU! Living in this area of North Carolina 4BCT: 4th Brigade Combat there are many great opportunities to enjoy the summer and so, I wish you a most enjoyable and safe sumTeam, 82nd Airborne Division mer.

Three Fury Team, I would first like to say what an honor and privilege it is to serve alongside such great paratroopers. I have observed a lot of great training and camaraderie in this first month as Three Fury Nine. I am looking forward to working with and finally getting around the Drop Zone and meeting every one of you and seeing the great families that support this great Squadron. I know that you will continue to set the bar high and go above and beyond as Cavalrymen and Paratroopers in the tradition this unit is known for. All of you have written new pages in the history of the Three Fury Team and the Fury Brigade and I have no doubt you will continue to do so. I am proud to now be a part of such a great organization and am truly excited to watch the new feats you all will accomplish and the history you will continue to write. The Squadron Commander saying goodbye to CPT Elijah Myers

CPT Pat Byrne, Jennifer, and Patrick, the new Havoc 6 and family.

My greetings to all of you! I am excited to join the 4-73 Cav Team, and I appreciate the warm welcome. In the last few weeks Havoc has had a number of great events. Recently our troopers returned from the field training exercise and though we kept them overnight, they really got great training. With the experience and seniority of most Havoc Troopers they played the role of observers, mentors, and coaches to the other Troop and Platoon leaders conducting training missions throughout the Fort Bragg Reservation Area. Congratulations to SGT Mount for his acceptance into the Army Green to Gold Program! In closing Mrs. Jennifer Byrne will be taking over the role as FRG Leader, our thanks to Mrs. Lyndsey Proctor for her great energy and we look forward to her continued support as one of the lead volunteers in HHT.

In the Yellow shirt is SSG Bolin who took the most bids for the Pie in the Face FRG fundraiser.

17 JUN 03 JUL 2013: Outload Support 13 JUL 29 JUL 2013: Summer Block Leave Period
Thoughts from the Commander and First Sergeants Hide Site The last few months have flown by down here in Apocalypse Troop. Since the last newsletter, we have welcomed almost 30 new faces to our team, celebrated 17 promotions, and bid farewell to six Paratroopers who in their own way contributed to making this organization so great. Your Paratroopers have been hard at work these past few months executing collective training designed to help shape and refine our warrior skills and build a cohesive team. At the end of March the Troop fired a mounted Cavalry Gunnery range, the first time many of the members of our organization had participated in an un-stabilized gunnery. Following gunnery the Troop completed Section level STXs, incorporating rotary wing assets and returning us back to the basics of being a Scout. After firing a mounted Section Live Fire, the Troop deliberately recovered its equipment and culminated our collective training with a Platoon Live Fire and Platoon STX Lanes. With the passing of each collective training event, our young Paratroopers continue to impress us with their hard work and effort. The Troop hosted the first major FRG function of the year, a Spring Fling, on 25 April. Thanks to the dedication of our many volunteers, and the support of the Paratroopers, friends, and families of Apocalypse the event was a huge success, allowing us to raise almost $570.00 for the FRG. As always, thank you for your continued support to your Paratrooper and to our team. We are excited about what we see in the future for this fantastic organization. Last but not least, remember, if you aint CAV, you aint Very Respectfully, APOCALYPSE 6 & APOCALYPSE 7

Former Blackjack XO LT March catches his breath after the OCourse during the LT Polette Cup

CDR: Over the past six weeks, the Troopers of Blackjack have risen to the occasion and exceeded the standard time and time again. During this quarter we have honed and improved upon the fundamental skills that were learned during the last quarter. We executed both section and platoon situational training exercises as well as section and platoon live fire exercises. Despite the long hours and harsh conditions, your troopers performed extremely well. I personally want to thank the families of Blackjack Troop for their support and encouragement during these past two months, while the men have spent long stretches of time in the field. I couldnt be more proud of this troop and I look forward to what the next quarter has to offer. No Luck, Just Skill! Blackjack 6 1SG: I want to thank everyone for the warm reception I have received during my first few months as a member of the Blackjack family. These initial months as Troop 1SG have been challenging, but also extremely rewarding. The Blackjack Troopers have proven to be some of the most professional, and hardest working individuals that I have had the pleasure of working with during my military career. During this break from time in the field I encourage each and everyone of you to spend time with your families. I am excited about this upcoming quarter and I cant wait to see what the future holds. The last few weeks have been pretty exciting for Chainsaw. We were able to get back into the wood line and return to our roots of patrolling. Our Troopers conducted Platoon Situational Training Exercises (STX) focusing on our recon skill set. The Men of Chainsaw then moved on to live fire exercises. They conducted several air assault operations in order to close with the enemy. After our time in the field, we shifted our focus to All American Week. Chaplain Chat: A Call for Community

Lean on me when you're not strong, And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on. For it won't be long 'Til I'm gonna nee d somebody to lean on. Released in April 1972, these are the lyrics of a song written by American singer-songwriter Bill Withers. Withers' childhood in the coal mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia was the inspiration for "Lean on Me", which he wrote after he had moved to Los Angeles and found himself missing the strong community ethic of his hometown. Many of you whether married or single may know what its like to leave home to travel sometimes far distances at the needs of the Army. Even to Fort Bragg, NC This journey can be lonely, and a t times you may feel like your all on your own. Withers recalls his time in the military stating: "When I was in the Navy, I must have been about 18, 19 years old, and I wa s stationed in Pensacola, Florida. It was a holiday, I had this car that I was able to buy and I was driving up to West Virginia. As is the case with young people with cheap cars, the tires weren't that great, so one of my tires blew out on this rural Alabama road. This guy comes walking over the hill that looked like he was right out of the movie Deliverance. He says to me, 'Oh, you had a blowout.' Well, I didn't have a spare tire. This guy goes walking back across the hill, and I'm not too comfortable here because I know where I am. He comes back walking with a tire, and he actually helps me put the tire on the car. The lyrics go on to say: If there is a load, you have to bear that you can't carry. I'm right up the road, I'll share your load if you just call me. Now, you might not have a flat tire that needs to be carried like Withers, but maybe there are some things that are getting to difficult to handle on your own. Maybe its family struggles, faltering finances, parenting challenges, or just some rough times youve got to get through, I want you to know you are not alone. Some of the hardest lyrics in the song for me to admit are right simply state: Please, swallow your pride, if I have things you need to borrow. For no one can fill those of your needs, that you won't let show. No matter what the rumors youve heard or experiences youve faced in the past, I want to encourage you to take a risk and st ep out and find a community. It could be a positive group of people who go out once a week, it could be an interest group, or it could be a faith-based community that can give you that home away from home feel and help you carry the load you bear. If your struggling to find that right place I would love to speak with you and introduce you to some of our outstanding communities in 4-73rd CAV SQN. My number is 910-973-0259 and my email is jody.l.harlow.mil@mail.mil. To echo the ending lyrics to the song: just call me.
