Text 42 Translation. Sa'idi Sirjhi Passes Away. Tehrh-Jomhuri Eslami News Service
(1) A reliable source reported that the effon of doetors to save the life of 'Ali Akbar Sa'idi
SirjBni, the elderly Iranian writer, were ineffectual, and he passed away in the first hours of
Sunday morning in Tehrin.
(2) On Saturday SirjBni suffered a massive heart attack and was quickly plaeed under the
eare of physieians. On Sunday morning, the leader of the team of physicians attending to
SirjBni reported that from one o'eloek that morning Sirjhi's eondition grew grave and doctors
began an expanded effon in their eare and treatment of him. But their efforts did not produee
results and he passed away. The chief of the team of attending physieians said rhar Sa'idi
S i r j h i had suffered a heart attaek and that heart resuscitation procedures were undenaken to
save him. The ~atient'sheart had revived. But beeause of a double mvdriasis and the leneth of
eessation of his breathing4espite breathing resuscitation-after a time his heart stopped beating.
Despite special medical attention, he did not respond to treatment or therapy and he passed
away.
(3) In its report, the Jomhuri-ve Eslbtni News Serviee added that s ~ n e elast Esfand
[FebruaryIMarch] when he was arrested, and aiter undergoing judieial prwedures, Sa'idi Sirjini
chose to reside in a house in nonh T e h r h , where he undertook a revision of his works.
Among his new works his "Cultural Memoirs" is on the subject of contemporary history.
(4) After a voluntary visit last month to the southern (former war) fronts, Sa'idi called his
reeent perspeetive a new binh and produeed some writings in this regard. During his trip to
the front, Sa'idi Sirjini talked to a representative of Elleld'd, Newspaper in the south. That
conversation was published a little while back in the "Reports" page of that newspaper.
(5) Also, in an interview on Abin 4th with Jomhuri-ye Esldmi Newspaper, Sa'idi had
said, "Before my arrest my writings had veins of stubbornness, and I am very regretful
beeause the devotion and sincerity which I see in young people and veterans have shaken me."
He also said in this interview, "I want to make up for things with my writings from now on, so
that 1 am no longer ashamed of myself."
( 6 ) At the same time, in view of the fact that the late Sa'idi Sirjini had entrusted the
publication of his political and cultural memoirs to the EttelB'it organization, these memoirs
will soon be printed and published by Ettelrit Publications.
