CALTEX MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATION NYS-F2.11 MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR FIRED HEATERS, BOILER TUBES AND FITTINGS
A SCOPE
This Specication identies the Purchasers selected specications, and additional minimum requirements for materials, to be used for red heater and boiler tubing, piping and ttings. Where fabrication is involved, additional materials limitations and other requirements are imposed by NYS-L1.10 Fabricated Steel Piping and Tubing Assemblies (for service above 32F). Plug-type headers and associated ttings for rolled-in tube are not covered. When read in conjunction with the Purchasers Requisition and NYS-A1.50 Basic Requirements for Submission of Bids and Execution of Contracts for Major Equipment, a complete description of the Purchasers requirements is provided.

All ttings shall be seamless. Types 321H and 347H materials shall be solution heat treated at a minimum temperature of 1150C (2102F) for ten minutes and water quenched, and followed by a stabilised heat treatment at 885 15C (1625F 27F) for four hours. When fabrication is involved, additional material limitations are specied in NYS-L1.10

(ii) This Specication does not cover plug-type headers and their associated ttings. The Purchasers Requisition shall specify material requirements when such headers are to be employed. (iii) Cast tube, pipe or ttings shall not be used for general renery red heater applications, except where specically permitted by the Purchaser.

ROLLED IN TUBES
(i) Where the Purchasers Requisition states that tubes will be rolled into headers, a aring test and a ring gauge test are required. (ii) The aring test shall be done in accordance with ASTM A450 Specication for General Requirements for Carbon, Ferritic Alloy, and Austenitic Alloy Steel Tubes. A ring gauge approximately 25mm (1in) long, with a bore 0.64mm (0.025in) larger than the specied outside tube diameter, shall pass over the entire length of each tube.

3.0

HYDRAULIC TEST
All material shall be hydrotested. The test water for austenitic stainless steel material shall contain less than 30ppm chloride. The Purchasers Requisition will state the test pressure.

4.0

WELDING
Where welding is required to join lengths of tubes, it shall be done in accordance with NYSL1.10. The location of welds shall be approved by the Purchaser.

5.0

POSITIVE MATERIALS IDENTIFICATION

All items, including welds, shall be individually positively identied in the presence of the Purchasers Inspector. Spectroscopic, X-ray, uorescence or another Purchaser-approved method shall be used. As a minimum, the presence or absence of chromium, nickel, molybdenum, niobium and titanium shall be conrmed.

6.0

MARKING
The name or brand of the manufacturer, grade of material, specication number, heat number and heat treatment lot shall be electrolytically etched on each piece. No other method of marking is acceptable.

7.0

PACKAGING
(i) (ii) Finished items shall not be lacquered, varnished or painted. Each open end shall be protected with a plastic cap, suitably secured.

(iii) Where tubes are bundled for shipment, the ends of bundles shall be wrapped with sacking, suitably secured. (iv) Only web slings shall be used.

8.0

CERTIFICATION
In addition to certication required by the material specication (refer to NYS-A1.50), certication is required for positive material identication, radiographic inspection, heat treatment, aring, ring and hydraulic tests.
