Table of Contents and Directions for each activity

P.5-9 Unscramble Sentenceslaminate the sea animal sentences and cut apart. Make a copy of the
recording sheet for each child. Students will unscramble the sentences and record their answer on their recording sheet.

P.10-14 Telling and Asking Sentence Sortlaminate the sentences and sorting mats and cut them
apart. Students will sort the sentences onto their Telling/Asking sorting mats then record their answers onto their recording sheet by writing each sentence and using the correct end punctuation.

P.15-18 ABC orderlaminate the sea animal ABC cards and cut apart. Make a copy of the recording
sheet for each child. Students put the cards in ABC order and record their answers on their recording sheet. Note: There are two words that start with the letter s (shark and squid) so before you do this activity, make sure you explain how to do ABC order when two words start with the same letter.

P.19-26 Noun/Verb/Adverb Sortlaminate the sea animal noun/verb/adverb cards and sorting mats
and cut them apart. Students will sort the cards onto the Noun/Verb/Adverb sorting mats then record their answers onto their recording sheet. They will then write a sentence using one noun, one verb, and one adverb. I also included a recording sheet with just nouns and verbs in case you want to leave out the adverbs.

P.27-33 Match Contractionslaminate the sea animal contraction cards and cut them apart. Make one
copy of the recording sheet for each child. Students match a contraction to the two words that make up the contraction and copy the answer onto their recording sheet.

P.34-40 Place Value Practicelaminate the sea animal place value and number cards and cut apart.
Make a copy of the recording sheet for each child. Students will match a place value card to its number and record that number on their recording sheet.

P.41-47 Telling time to the hour and half hourlaminate the sea animal clock cards and the digital
time cards and cut apart. Make a copy of the recording sheet for each child. Students match a digital time card to its corresponding clock and record the digital time for that clock on their recording sheet.

P.48-50 Counting the value of dimes, nickels, and pennies-laminate the money and their amount cards
and cut apart. Make a copy of the recording sheet for each child. Students count the money on a card and match it to its corresponding value. They record the value of the coins on their recording sheet.

P.51-59 Fractional Part of a set (3 activities)

(NOTE: if you have not previously taught your class this concept, then I suggest you do Activity 1 and Activity 2 together so your students can do Activity 3 independently at a center.) Activity 1) Fractional Parts of fish in a fishbowl: Run the fish pattern onto different colors of construction paper or have your kids color them. Important: I made a recording sheet for two colors of fish or three colors. If you choose the 2 color recording sheet, then make sure you have 2 colors of fish for each child or the kids only color using 2 different colors. If you choose the 3 color recording sheet, then you need 3 colors of fish for each child or students color them using 3 colors. I left a picture example on the next page to give you a visual. Make one copy of the fish bowl for each child and have them add details (water, rocks, plants, etc.) Then the record the fractional parts on their recording sheet.

Activity 2)

For this activity, you will need to purchase a box of Goldfish Colors:

Each child will need a small bag of goldfish (I use snack baggies) with a small amount of each color of fish. They will then record the fractional parts of each color of fish they have onto their recording sheet (p.55). Note: There is an additional graphing, addition, and comparison activity that I put on my blog for free using goldfish crackers. I do both activities together when we get out the goldfish crackers. You can check it out by going to: http://www.firstgradeshenanigans.blogspot.com/search/label/graphing

Activity 3) Laminate the sea animal fractional part cards. Make one copy of the recording sheet for
each child. They will get a card and record its fractional parts on their recording sheet (p.59).
(Note: I looked up the plural of octopus and many resources claim that octopuses and octopi are both correct. Many claimed that in the U.S. octopuses is the more accepted word so I chose to use that and also for the reason that I think it will be easier for my first graders to read. If you decide that you prefer octopi, please send me an email and I will be happy to edit it for you.)

P.60-63 Comparing two number using >, <, =. Laminate the sea animal number cards. Make one copy
of the recording sheet for each child. Students look at the numbers on the card, record them onto their recording sheet and then use the correct symbol to compare the numbers.
