1 Samuel 25:1-4, 42-43 (NIV)

Now Samuel died, and all Israel assembled and mourned for him; and they buried him at his home in Ramah. Then David moved down into the Desert of Paran. 2A certain man in Maon, who had property there at Carmel, was very wealthy. He had a thousand goats and three thousand sheep, which he was shearing in Carmel. 3His name was Nabal and his wifes name was Abigail. She was an intelligent and beautiful woman, but her husband was surly and mean in his dealingshe was a Calebite. 4 While David was in the wilderness, he heard that Nabal was shearing sheep.
1

David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep.

Abigail got up hurriedly and rode away on a donkey; her five maids attended her. She went after the messengers of David and became his wife. 43David also married Ahinoam of Jezreel; both of them became his wives.

1 Samuel 25:1-4, 42-43 (The Message)

Samuel died. The whole country came to his funeral. Everyone grieved over his death, and he was buried in his hometown of Ramah. Meanwhile, David moved again, this time to the wilderness of Maon. 2-3There was a certain man in Maon who carried on his business in the region of Carmel. He was very prosperous three thousand sheep and a thousand goats, and it was sheep-shearing time in Carmel. The mans name was Nabal (Fool), a Calebite, and his wifes name was Abigail. The woman was intelligent and good-looking, the man brutish and mean. 4David, out in the backcountry, heard that Nabal was shearing his sheep.

6:00 p.m.

Abigail quickly got on a donkey and, attended by her five female servants, went with Davids messengers and became his wife. 43David had also married Ahinoam of Jezreel, and they both were his wives.

Confession of Sins
Almighty and Most Merciful Father, we come before You, acknowledging our sins, our shortcomings, and our breaking of our Covenant with You. Not only have we done things we ought not to have done, said things we ought not to have said, left undone so many things we ought to have done and been silent when we should have witnessed for You.
CONFESSION OF SINS

Not only are we guilty of that, O Lord; but we have also closed our eyes and pretended not to see the injustices, the racism and the evil which pervade our everyday lives. We have shut our ears and pretended not to hear the cries for liberation which come from the lips, lives and hearts of the oppressed even our own Black brothers and sisters! Forgive us, O Lord, renew our courage and faith, and keep us ever mindful of Thy great sacrifice. Hear us, we beseech Thee, as we come to You in love and worship giving Your Name the praise forevermore. ****** To All Our Visitors ... To all who mourn and need comforting ... To all who are friendless and want friendship ... To all who are oppressed and need liberation; and to whosoever will come, Trinity opens its doors. Thank you for coming, and may God bless you.

Stewardship Tithing Litany

Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Together: Tithing is the biblical principle of returning 10% to God first. The earth is the Lords, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. Debt is a spiritual issue. We are robbing Gods people when we live beyond our means, refuse to budget, invest, save, and tithe; we are seduced by debt. The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is Mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers. Tithing, budgeting, and stewardship are the solutions to the spiritual problem of debt. Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. Debt is fed by the desire for immediate gratification, poor planning, and the need to keep up appearances. His master replied, Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your masters happiness! Tithing, saving, budgeting, and good stewardship of resources is the calling of all Christians. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Debt slavery has been used since 1863 to prevent people of African descent from gaining power and independence. Share with the Lords people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Our ancestors were forced into slavery. Today, we volunteer to be enslaved by debt and we mortgage our childrens future.

O God, we have been called to be a debt-free congregation. We are called to teach our community, children, and grandchildren the discipline of tithing, the power of budgeting, the blessing of saving, and the benefit of investing. We desire to live debt-free because it honors God and our ancestors, who died not for debt, but that we may live free with our God. Amen.

SERMON NOTES/PRAYER CONCERNS

Devotions Guide
June Devotional Guide
2013 Theme: Raising LeadersDeveloping Disciples Focus for June: Action Speaks Louder than Words Scripture Focus: Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Its Family month here at Trinity United Church of Christ, and our excitement is spreading throughout the congregation. This wonderful gift, experience, and blessing to be the family of God is too good - in fact impossible, to keep to ourselves. Our memory verse says it all, and gives us the perfect model for family love that we are striving to show in our day-to-day actions, as the leaders, disciples, and the family of God: But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 (NIV) God did not just verbally tell us that He loved us; it was demonstrated, as Jesus Christ, the Son of God, laid down his own life for us. The proof and timely manner of Christs death was placed into action at a time when we were of no use to him: While we were yet sinners! For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 (KJV) The grammatical Greek breakdown of the verbs in this one passage means all offend God, period, not past tense; but Greek Aorist means, "pure and simple, and misses the mark!" That is, present tense, which includes the church folks as well as the unchurched! (Im just saying!) Our focus for family month is Action Speaks Louder than Words! As the family of God, having experienced the love of God, it is expected and should be understood, that we are to spread patient, forgiving, unconditional love everywhere we go, to all we meet. Just calling ourselves the family of God, or calling ourselves the church, is not enough; it must be demonstrated. Like Gods love, Action Speaks Louder than Words. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples when they see the love you have for each other. John 13:35 (The Message) So what is Jesus saying? Your Action speaks louder (than your titles and positions in the family of God) than your words!

Devotions Guide
Christ took on the sacrificial death to save us (the world) while we were unloving, judgmental, arrogant, self serving, and ignoring God, having turned our backs on Him. It was in the midst of this that God demonstrated His unconditional love for us. What does God ask or demand in return? If my people, (the family of God Leaders, disciples) which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) Who do you think my mother and brothers are?(Gods family are?) 49He then stretched out his hand toward his disciples. Look closely. These are my mother and brothers. 50Obedience is thicker than blood. The person who obeys my heavenly Fathers will is my brother and sister and mother. Matthew 12:46 (The Message) All Jesus was saying and what we should hide in our heart this family month and forever, is Action Speaks Louder than Words! Lets bless God in song and our actions! I Need You to Survive I need you, you need me; were all a part of Gods body. Stand with me, agree with me; were all a part of Gods body. It is His will that every need be supplied; you are important to me, I need you to survive. You are important to me, I need you to survive. I pray for you, you pray for me; I love you, I need you to survive. I wont harm you with words from my mouth; I love you, I need you to survive. *** Happy Family Month 2013! The Chaplains Ministry

RAISING LEADERS and DEVELOPING DISCIPLES

January Matthew 16:24 (NLT) Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me." February Luke 4:18-19 (NIV) The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lords favor. March Luke 10:19 (NIV) I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. April Romans 10:1-2 (NLT) Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is for the people of Israel to be saved. I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal. May 1 Corinthians 13:8 (NIV) Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. June Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. July Philippians 4:13 (NLT) For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. August Jeremiah 1-7 (NLT) The Lord replied, Dont say, Im too young, for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you." September Isaiah 1:3 (NLT) Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its masters carebut Israel doesnt know its master. My people dont recognize my care for them. October Isaiah 40:29 (KJV) He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. November John 17:21 (KJV) That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. December Matthew 1:23 (KJV) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
