3 TYPOGRAPHY 1 On completion of this module, the student will be able to demonstrate the following: Understand the history and classification of Typography. Deepen the knowledge of concepts development of Typography. Define basic layout and typography terminology Describe the basic design process Identify basic problem-solving requirements and client objectives Appreciate the role of individual student creativity in solving design problems Develop visual aesthetics and styles Relate type and image in effective page layouts Understand the importance of visual hierarchy and how to carry visual hierarchy across multiple pages To be able to deepen the knowledge of concepts development typography To be able to design and illustrate own typeface To be able to communicate typeface with design Differentiate among calligraphy, lettering, and type Gain knowledge of type definitions and nomenclature Learn about type measurement, basic type specification, and classifications of type.

Structured to let students feel at ease with the technical aspects of typography that must be learned if they are to design and work with type intelligently and creatively. The next stage of Typography aims to extend information learned; therefore Typography now becomes the medium and the message of symbolic communication. Thus inherent from different typefaces is explored. Typographic relationships with other graphic elements are investigated through brochures, poster, and other 2-dimensional projects.
