Other Interests: I like learning as much as I can about outer space. I enjoy learning about new discoveries that space scientists have discovered about the solar system or the universe. I am also interested in the new technologies that come out every year. Cal Poly It has a great engineering program with a lot of hands on learning. It also gives a majority of its graduates jobs immediately after graduating.

A little bit about my home / family life: My father is an immigrant. I have a one-year-old baby brother, whom I have to take care of until my mom gets home. My mom had me when she was 17, and had my sister when she was 18.

What qualities best describe you as an applicant? I am a hard working student who always pushes himself to his limits. I m not afraid of making mistakes because I feel that I can learn from them and help me grew as a person. I will do all that I can to accomplish any task at hand. To your knowledge, do you have a historically disadvantaged background (i.e., low income for several years, firstgeneration college student, inner-city or migrant family)? Yes No If yes, why? I am a first generation student so that means that I am technically on my own since I dont have someone to give me advice about how the college experience really is. I have to experience this entirely new world all on my own with out help from family.

What services or assistance would you need to help you succeed in college? I would need financial aid, grants, scholarships. Anything that could help me pay for my tuition. I am a little ambiguous about accepting student loans because I am scared of being in debt right after coming out of school.

Please discuss any barriers to achievement you have faced. Do you believe they will affect your performance in college? I am a first generation student. The whole college idea is completely new to me. I feel this would motivate me to do well because I would like to set an example for my younger siblings. My dad is an immigrant so he doesnt really know much about school past high school. This makes me want to be the best I possibly can so that I can make him proud. All this motivates me to do well in college so that I can have the life that my parents want for me.

What is your assessment of your own potential, motivation, or capability for undertaking college work and potential to succeed in college? I feel that I do have potential for succeeding in college. I am always pushing myself to do better and am a self motivated student. I always strive to do my best. In addition, I am enrolled in college level courses; I know now what is expected from me by a college class. I feel as though, with my experience in the college courses, I will be able to succeed in college. Staff I asked to write my recommendations and why: 1. Mr. Larkin because I am doing well in his class and am even a tutor for the subject. Plus I have a relationship outside of the classroom environment. 2. Ms. Mojarro because math is one of my strongest subject and it is reflected by the work that I do. 3. Ms. Lipton because she is a teacher whom I have had for two years and who has known me for three.
