Season: Issue Eight

Glory, Glory Sealords Capital Ten is overflowing with Wharfies' derbies this
season. But the undoubted highlight for the club is the Sealords vs Glory clash. They met three times last season and the Glory edged the Lords two victories to one. This year the Lords were determined to fix that imbalance and reign supreme in THE Wharfies Derby. Check out the match report below. Enjoy, Paddy

Sealords vs Glory Karori Park 25.05.13

Having successfully ensconced themselves at the top of the table with last weekends win over Olympic the Lords were looking to keep the good times rolling with victory over the Karori Glory in THE Wharfies Derby. While he was still out himself, Manager Drysdale had a relatively full squad to pick from and drafted in Marc Macca Mckeown and old-Sealord Shaun Jazz Hands McMaster to provide injury cover on the bench. Considering their form over recent weeks the Sealords plan was simple. Keep doing we have been doing and keep an eye on the pesky striker the Glory have. The Glory kicked off but it was the Lords who came out of the starting blocks with a gallop. Tom Horse Newby burst up the left flank, confounded his defender by turning inside on the edge of the box and curled the ball perfectly through the opposing centre-backs and around the goalkeeper. The game was only minutes old but the Lords were ahead! They were taking all the play to the Glory and a second followed soon after. The Lords were attacking the Glory goal with more good work from Tom Newby when the ball fell to Mike Mr Electricity. Wasting no time at all Mike slotted home with his left foot and the Lords were ahead two-nil inside the first ten minutes. This seemed to finally rouse the Glory who started to play some football. A Glory corner found their danger man unmarked in the box for a free header but he couldnt get the connection right and the ball sailed high over the bar. It was a warning to the Lords and a second soon followed when the Glory left winger found himself unmarked inside the box only for him to cannon his shot into the post and out. On at the quarter came Jason Big Daddy van Hattum whose rich run of form would continue. A superb ball from Greg Ole Gunnar Severinsen would find Jase on the right side of the box where with a deft touch he lifted the ball over the advancing

defender and goalkeeper to put the Lords ahead by three. With the Lords playing their finest half of football of the season, there was little for Manager Drysdale to say at half-time, other than keep it up. And the Lords came out for the second half firing. A superb tackle/clearance/through ball from the immense Mike Stringer Stringer in midfield split the Glory defence in two and Tom Newby sprinted clear to slide the ball past the keeper with an expert finish. This would be one of the last acts of the game for Horse as a rough tackle saw him invalided out of the game. Luckily his replacement was the red hot Jase. A fifth goal followed shortly when Jase found himself on the left side of the box. He pulled the ball back across the box at a height that would have forced most players to take a touch and bring it down before having a go. Greg doesnt have time for those sort of shenanigans though and preferred to unleash an exquisite volley into the back of the net. Tying up second place in the goal of the season awards to go with his goal against the Reds. The Lords werent finished there though and continued to pour forward in attack. Jase launched a screamer from just inside the box, which attracted a little too much attention from the hand of the Glory centre-back. With little hesitation Referee Drysdale pointed to the spot. And despite being in the midst of an asthma attack Jase stepped up to place the ball under the diving keeper and make it six for the Lords. The Glory would pull one back but in the end the Lords were too strong for them this time around and put themselves in prime position with the mid-point of the season just around the corner. Man of the Match went to Tom Newby after another barnstormer. The rock at the back formally known as Simon Treasure Me Duncan took out second place. While Mike Stringer rounded out the awards after an enormous performance in central-mid. Result: Sealords 6 1 Glory Goals: Assists: J. van Hattum x2 G. Severinsen T. Newby x2 M. Stringer G.
